Geo blocked over news of shoe hurling at Zardari

Update [9th Aug 1:54 PM] : ARY & SAMAA also blocked.

It is being reported by many sources all over Karachi that Geo channel is facing the wrath of PP gov. and its being blocked over news of shoe hurling at Zardari by a British PAK Mr. Shamim Khan. Looks like PP still lives in 70s when the nation was fooled on 71 disaster. Geo reports that : ” Some of PPP’s leaders and government officials have issued threats and warnings to cable operators across country against continuation of Geo News transmission, pressurizing them to shut Geo News transmission but most cable operators refused to do so, sources said.”

Geo can be accessed here:

What does this have to do with Karachi?

I am complaining to Metblogs to shut this blog down. It’s a useless outfit over-run by a few ill-mannered and foul-mouthed commentators like wasiq and balma.

I hope that GEO along with its paper, Jang, are banned for life in this country. It leads a thoroughly anti-Pakistan agenda and as such is a useless pass time. It provides information which is mostly not verified by any proper, known sources. I am really glad that GEO has been blocked by some cable ops.

@Ameer Hamza saab….no sir I do not agree with either of the two allegation you have hurled at jang….

We recognize that the government has stated that no official government institution is involved in any acts meant to coerce or intimidate media. Likewise, PPP party members in Karachi have stated that they are not involved in any acts of burning newspapers. At the same time, though, it is also reported that the same PPP Karachi leader was threatening outside Geo TV offices. We believe that the truth needs to be brought out instead of “he said, she said”. The people deserve the facts, not politics. Yesterday’s statement by Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Syed Sumsam Ali Bukhari that there will be no government curbs imposed on media is a good start.

Owing to our media sadly, not very much democracy appreciative and it is also failed to develop consensus on important democratic or national issues – and due to irresponsible reporting and journalism, we have become apolitical nation and people have been losing faith and confidence in the democratic system and normative governance. This is the most disturbing factor that as a nation we are failed to develop consensus on important democratic questions and media as consensus builder &[leading]opinion maker is very much responsible for that. It seems Geo and Jang didn’t learn any lesson and they are not mature.

When there is no freedom of speech or any other way of circulation of ideas or views from one body to another, people have to rely solely on gossips and rumors.

So here are some interesting gossips I would like to share:

    * Raza Rizvi gets assassinated. A staged event created to abrupt sectarian violence. Everything goes according to the plan. People start burning, killing and looting each other up.

    * UK’s PM David Cameron and Pakistani President Ali Zardari decide to have a good old fashion hangout. All the media attention diverts from the flood victims towards their meeting. “Come on Who wants to see some poor old people begging for a piece of bread over a Political Drama serial”

    * And it gets even better. They thought that helping and rebuilding a disaster struck country (both naturally and intentionally) is too much to do right now. “Why don’t we just start banning the news channels? yeah thats a great idea to divert the little left attention .Something is better then nothing.”

“The last thing the men behind the curtain want is a conscious informed public capable of critical thinking. Which is why a continually fraudulent zeitgeist is output via religion, the mass media, and the educational system. They seek to keep you in a distracted, naive bubble. And they are doing a damn good job of it.” Zeitgiest 2007
