Eid Mubarak Karachi

I would like to extend all our readers here a very warm Eid Mubarak, enjoy the festivities to its fullest but at the same time take a moment to reflect on the sufferings of the poor, and the hundreds of innocent lives being lost in the North Waziristan offensive

Please also pray for Pakistan that it can come out of this politcal mess and maybe embark on a vision for a progressive Pakistani nation.

Ameen

Qurbani Update: Mera Bachra

Even though I figured that there are not many Gaye-Enthusiasts on this site, I am sharing the video (poor quality) which my brother made for me because I won’t be with my family in Karachi for the Eid.

The video quality is not very good, but there are a few things which I think an observant person will notice.
1. The Gulaabi Urdu accent (a karachiwala born to Punjabi Speaking parents) in the start of the video.
2. Azan in the background and not many rushing to the mosque (so very Karachi like)
3. Later down the video, pure Karachiite Accent (almost towards the end)
4. Too much manpower available

Allah hum sab ki qurbani-an qubool karay. New Year ki aisi ki taisi, I wish you all a very Happy Eid Mubarak. Eat Well. Stay Beautiful.

Asalama Alaikum

Tele-Communication issues

no network coverage
message not sent
system busy
message failed

All of this will happen tomorrow so Eid Mubarak before the networks get jammed.

This year I havent faced problems with my cellular service provider except for the occasional hiccup but the above text message which I received a day before eid pretty much sums up last year’s network jam which led to no calls or text messages going through on chand raat and the first day of eid.

If you’ve faced these problems this eid, share your stories.

Lets Hope for a better tomorrow, lets hope for stronger underpasses, lets hope the crime rate drops, lets hope poverty ends, lets hope our city shelter children, and we no more push them to drugs, lets hope every child could read, lets hope we all live in peace, lets hope we work together to change our today for a better tomorrow.

Eid Mubarak to all the citizens of Karachi, to all our readers, to the whole of Pakistan, and to all our fellow Bloggers.

Eid Bubarak

Mere pyaray behno aur bhaiyon, ap sab logo ko bohat bohat eid mubarak ho. khush raho. Phalo, phoolo, mazay karo.
“Ae Allah, Karachi par apna khaas rehmo-karam kar, aur iss shehar ko bohat tarraqqi day aur iss kay saray masaaill ka hal nikaal day. Aur Karachi kay rehnay walon ko apnay hifz-o-Amaan mein rakh, aur Karachi ki har buraayee, bimari aur khatray say mehfooz rakh. Ae Allah, hum Teri hi ibadat kartay hain, aur tujh say panaah mangtay hain. Karachi kay rehnay walon ko naikk rasta dikha, seedha raasta. Ya Allah, yahan kay shehrion mein yukk-jehhti paida kar. Iss shehr ki roshnian hamesha qaimm rakhna aur iss ko burayyee kay har shar say paak kar day aur iss shehar ko yahan kay shehrion kay liye jannat bana day.”
Amin.
God Bless you all in all ways possible.

False alarm

So it was 7:30pm last night, and friends and I were all dressed in kurtas and chappals ready to hit the streets for the celebration of Chaand Raat. Just then a text message comes in and tells us no scene. Eid is on Wednesday. So after so much excitement for this ‘cultural experience’ we had all of today to wait in anticipation for the lights, the people, the fashion, the mehndi, the food, bangles bangles bangles everywhere! Am looking forward to this nights events. I’ll be sharing some of my sights and impressions with you afterwards since I get my camera back tonight aswell (was in for repair, appears that SAMSUNG doesn’t make cameras fit for Karachi heat…)

And of course to everyone! a very happy EID MUBARAK to you and your families!

Igloo’s Eid Flavor .

http://karachi.metblogs.com/archives/images/2006/10/Kheer-thumb.jpg
Everyone in our city is in the Eid mood, shops are brightly lit and glittering with the glass bangles, Eid cards, clothes and discount tags. People are busy buying gifts for their loved ones, girls are after outfits bright in color, glittering bangles and jewelry and kids are keeping their fingers crossed for the money they will soon be getting their hands on in the form of Eidee. To join all the celebrations of Eid Igloo has launched Kheer Icecream . The posters are around the city have Eid Mubarak written under them advertising their new flavor. A similar poster pasted on a small shop near my house caught my attention today, and much to my surprise the product was also readily available so I bought this Rs.125 Liter pack to give it a try.
