Update : 3 C-Commander Karachi (who for himself always keep a 50+ vehicle brigade) rejects the plea for help & security by lawyers stuck in court (AAJ report)

Update : 2 ARY ONE WORLD journalist’s name is included in the list of people to be FORCEFULLY thrown out of SINDH.

Update 1 : Latest is that even the police that came (50 men) is nowhere now & AAJ TV is still under siege as i see smoke taking over my area completely now. Its been 7 hours now and the employee of AAJ TV are as helpless as a man in Jungle.

The scenes you are seeing on your TV screen are at walking distance. The firing is immense. It was well planned, completely organized , well equipped, fully assisted in human resource and ammunition and lasted over a period of 6 hours, a period of complete terror. At one time when i ran to close gate but i heard a burst of bullets outside our society & had to run back to safety.

AAJ TV today, created history today by fully & professionally brining live images, uncut. While it had to take the brunt of MQM’s wrath for showing MQM workers holding repeaters & AK-47 live on camera with party flags fluttering in air but that didn’t stop them from honoring their pledge to present truth to its audience.

We salute you AAJ TV. Some 50 around policemen have just arrived near AAJ TV now but that is nothing in comparison to some 250 mob full equipped & organized to rein in terror.

can’t you capture scenes by using mobile cam and upload somewhere? AAJ TV is not shown on other countries specially in US and i got emails by few who wanted to see the moments when AAJ was under heavy firing. They are still showing it so I think you can make it.

My hats off to the courageous media. They are our true heroes. We, the people of Pakistan, should at least realize from this whole sorry episode, what the Govt of Pakistan thinks of its people. We are only lab rats for them to experiment on. I implore evryone to vote in the forthcoming elections. This is the only way we can make our voices heard.

I can imagine what you went through today MB. I live 5 minutes from the AAJ TV office. Watching and hearing the shots being fired via TV first and hearing them echo 2 seconds later in the background was quite an experience for me today.

Good to see ure safe MB.

Talat did not flutter even when his peers were clearly shaken & it clear who he held responsible for the tragic events.

I can imagine the terror on the innocent kids, for growing up in the 90’s I remember the terror we faced everyday on the hands of MQM.

May God give everyone the courage & paitence & guide us safely out of this mess.

I wonder who the journalist is, being asked to leave the province.

  17. Imran (unregistered) on May 12th, 2007 @ 8:59 pm

To understand the bigger picture behind the movement of May 12 2007, one needs to look at global politics.

The AGE OF FANATACISM is over. The nations who understand and disassociate themselves from the shakles of religious extremism will survive, others will SELF-DESTRUCT. Musharraf UNDERSTANDS this. He wants to make Pakistan a MODERATE (somewhere between fanatic and enlightened) nation.

ENTER THE MULLAHS, created by the cursed Zia-Ul-Haq to sustain his rule. The home-bred Taliban brainwashed an entire generation of nPAkistan into fanatacism, using religious blackmail as their tool.

Now, the clear and present alignment of Pakistan with the West is a (direct) threat to the Theocratic Agenda. Seeing a global shift away from religious extremism, this is THE LAST STAND of the theocrats (JI, MMA and their like) to push their agenda for a theocratic society to rule Pakstan with a divine mission (Nifaz-e-Shariat). HENCE THE SHARIAT, THE ANTI-WOMEN’s RIGHTS MOVEMENT, etc etc etc.

One may look at the bigger picture:

    1. Dictatorships may come or go.
    3. Facades of democracy may come or go
    2. MQM may come or go.
    3. Punjabistan may or may not continue to rule Pakistan

IF HOWEVER, Pakistan (already hijacked by a mere 3% of the intolerants in our country) comes under religious fanatics, WE WILL PERISH. And the World will pass us by.

NOTE: While the flag-bearers fight it out with the caeramen, THE MULLAHS ARE WAITING. WAKE UP & SMELL THE COFFEE PEOPLE!!

Please don’t post the picture or videos anywhere on the Internet. We all know how it looks like and there is no point in putting those out on the Internet for the world to see.

I agree that in this digital age you cannot stop the news/information from spreading but still, the less spread of this kind of news/pics/videos, the better it is.

  20. Adnan (unregistered) on May 12th, 2007 @ 9:03 pm

I am not a supporter of MQM but i salute MQM, I love the management of MQM. I think MQM shud start a Management University. The planning of today was excellent.. that stupid cheif justice was not even allowed to come out of the karachi airport. CJP sat all day in the waiting lounge of the airport. EXCELLENT..

Really Altaf Bhai .. you planned it excellently.. but you shud have not involved the VIOLENCE in the planning. Rest everything went excellently.

  21. Adnan (unregistered) on May 12th, 2007 @ 9:05 pm

    @ Imran

I totally agree with you Imran… Mullahs shud never come into power.. MQM is still bearable..

    A PAKISTANI,
“We all know how it looks like and there is no point in putting those out on the Internet (for the world to see)”, you said.

I don’t agree with that Philosophy. We all KNOW; but there-in lies the problem. ‘KNOWING’ IS NOT ENOUGH, ITS THE ‘DOING’ THAT COUNTS.

And for that you must share every bit of your dirty laundry with the global village, otherwise known as the world.

    SILENCE = DEATH.

Your entire post is baseless & racist.

I do agree with the 3%, but I would not consider MQM as “religious fanatics”—hell their “quaid” cant even recite a Surah properly.

Karachi is not a Mullah/Punjabi stronghold, yet its the only city in the entire nation that faced violence.

I guess ull accuse everyone against “progress” gearing up against the present admin??

adnan and imran although i know “religious” rule in karachi/pakistan means shia’s being genocided and all the rest of that conmplete ugliness, this is MQM’s day to show the world that they also can not rule without slaughter. Yes other parties also came out looking or trouble but the ruling party upped the antic for sure. I understand your point of view entirely but we can not not condemn what happened today otherwise we are every bit as terrorist as the next guy.

Thanks Adnan (May 12, 2007 09:05 PM) for your understanding.

With your permission i’d like to re-phrase your sentence, the way I see it:

MQM is un-bearable and the Mullahs are un-acceptable.

To choose between right or wrong is simple, but life is (not) simple. There is no clear right or wrong in life. What defines one’s life is the decision to choose between the greater of two goods or the lesser of two evils.

    NOW CHOOSE THE LESSER EVIL!

why are you saluting AAJ TV ? I mean, its their job to do what they did.

If you look at the GEO people, they went on roads putting their lives in danger looking for news. I think Aaj Tv people were lucky in this way that they got everything on their doorstep. It was sure that nothing was going to happen with them, they were safe inside the building.

There was one GEO reporter who was lying under some car and was reporting at the same time. Anyways, what happened today in Karachi, it was totally expected.

  40. athlon3ghz (unregistered) on May 12th, 2007 @ 9:42 pm

This blog looks like an anti-MQM site.
CMON ppl we know that neither of them are saints.
if someone has watched GEO and ARY carefully then they would understand that violence wasnt one-sided but thugs of all spheres were involved. All I know is that other parties who havent ever won a single seat have no public following, are ever ready to disrupt my city . The only one for whom my heart is crying is the EDHI driver who was mercilessly shot while taking injured to hospital.CJ should’nt have come to karachi, ppl should leave karachi alone it already has thousands and thousands of problem already
    GOD have mercy on karachi

  41. Hatim (unregistered) on May 12th, 2007 @ 9:45 pm

Umair, the point of saluting AAJ doesn’t mean discrediting contribution of others - say Geo, ARY, newspapers, bloggers, etc, I feel. Everyone is playing a role and must be appreciated. It appeared that Aaj did well today, so was “saluted”, so join us!

  42. Imran (unregistered) on May 12th, 2007 @ 9:47 pm

Whatever im smoking i assure you it’s not pot :)

My apologies if i seemed racist or even baseless, for that was never the intention.

Perhaps you didnt get me … im not referring to MQM as “religious fanatics, nor they wanna be seen as fanatics i assume, since (they opposed the Anti-women’s bill rights rally by the Fanatics Jamat-e-Islami, remember?).

By the religious fanatics i mean the out-and-about religious parties (MMA, JI, SSP etc); they are aching to come into power in Pakistan. Ofcourse their dreams will never be realized for the Pakistani people maybe simple, but they are NOT stupid.

” are you just another tool flapping his wings when the party rethroic stops selling”, you ask.

Well i certainly hope NOT, because i have NOTHING to do with MQM :)

People like you always seel excuse to blame others[Mullah here for instance] while always demonstrate impotency to curse own people. You like it or not but the current demonstration of violence is not by Mullahs but a bastard party who claims to be secuarlists and Liberals and say they are against danda shariat. God works in His own ways, people who used to condemn Mullahs are killing more people and sheding blood today. I know it’s not pleasent for you but just admit it. Secularists and Liberals demonstratng more extreemism and violence than anyone else in this country and this is NOT the first time.. Keep burning! as it does effect you only :-)

why CJ shudn’t have come to Karachi? The Same CJ peacefully addressed in Gujrat, the hub of Chaudharies. The same CJ peacefully addressed in Peshawar and Islamabad[the hub of dictator's supporters]. Why couldn’t he come Karachi?Karachi is not property of MQM!. Instead of showing Bara pan by giving CJ a safe channel to reach to Bar and adressed, the MQM goons showed the CHOTA PAN and made urdu speaking people embarassed by creating troubles for them. It just shows that we karachiites can’t welcome our guests?

Ignorance shouldn’t be an excuse. Favoring MQM regardless of what does it do is pretty moronic thing. yes no political party is saint but MQM proved they are group of thugs who are violent and aggressive and ready to kill everyone including their own urdu speaking people. Those who died today were also urdu speaking people. What was their fault? May you get able to come out of ignorance and recognize your enemy.

12th may 2004 when people got killed during election. 12th May seems to be a Manhoos day for Karachi.

This is usual karachi politics PPP MQM IJI shitting on each other is no surprise …why are you blaming secularism for that? oh maybe because you take every oppurtunity to blame secularism.

  61. Adnan Siddiqi (unregistered) on May 12th, 2007 @ 11:56 pm

ASh you called PPP terrorist because the guy was carrying the flag. Who here said that MQM guys were carrying “Flags”? even if the guy was carrying MQM’s flag then I was not going to call him an MQM Terrorist. Use brain if you can. Don;t be a devil’s advocate . People know that MQM is involved in this bloodshed so don’t blame PPP or some XYZ here just because you abhor them.

Why shouldn’t I blame secularism Kid? MQM’s majority is secularist and MQM itself says they are liberals and secularist. If they had not claimed somethnig like that then I wouldnt have said something like this but after Turkey, the dictator and his goons proved that secularism is extreeme cabal who doesn;t want to hear their oponents. The world first witness the extreme face of secularism in Turkey and now in Pakistan. The interesting thing is that leaders of both state are fan of Ataturk :-)

hey Imran can u plz define ‘fundamentalism’? and i mean DEFINE, not rail off ur tirade against MULLAHs!
isn’t ‘fundamentalism’ and ‘fundamentals’ derived from ‘fundamentals’?

  65. BitterTruth (unregistered) on May 13th, 2007 @ 12:12 am

    @Imran
i don’t see any Mullah factor here..why we have to blame everything on mullah?
People are being killed and you are just saying killing is ok as long as no mullah is there. you will accept a killer but not a mullah..
Mullah or no mullah at least we should condemn violence

……..yet again im :S as to how & where did the “mullahs” come into this discussion.

Clearly Mr.Imran has some devine foresight that we do not share, for everyone else seems to think that today was “MQM vs everyone else”.

You keep chanting that you are not pro mqm, yet you repeatedly post, in bold letters, that Mullahs shall not win.

…..shouldnt u have been doing that during the Lal-Masjid bs?? :S.

Or do u suffer from some sort of memory loss & we should expect you to chant anti-gov slogans next time the taliban/ninja’s burn a Video shop down??

    Just askin.

    —-

ASH, uve already proven that u can think outside the box, ure point is correct in, “Terrorism is terrorism. Be it from the ruling party or the oposition”. @ the end of the day the ppl of Karachi have suffered.

    But just a small Q,

If a few opposition parties are shown carrying flags while carrying out unforgiviable acts,
it seems to show them in the true light.

But if there are countless pictures/eye-witness reports of the ruling party doing the same,
    the said pictures are

    “Fishy/False or Media bias”!.

    So what is it??

Do u still maintain that MQM does more good than bad??

The blood shed started bec PPP and JI couldnt let MQM run the day. MQM wanted the CJ to take a helicopter to his speech, but ur beloved PPP and JI TERRORIST did not want tht.

Adnan understand this, tali ek haath se nahi bajti. every one is to blame, I admit MQM didnt do it right, u should also admit tht ur other frinds had a big part to play in it too.

yeah please show me more hatred because its only gonna make me more proud of being MAHAJIR then EVER!
and how come your CJ refused to take a chopper when he was offered? and when he was a CJ how many time he actually went to “Quaid-E-Azams” mazar??

A backlash from the rest of the country against MQM seems to be on the horizon. MQM office in Quetta has been burnt. What goes round comes round.

  75. Adnan Siddiqi (unregistered) on May 13th, 2007 @ 12:45 am

Concerned, so if I oppose MQM means I favor PPP or some XYZ here? this stupid rant is not different than if I oppose Musharraf’s so called enlightment,I am MUllah. YOu don’t even know but then..you are free to make your wild imagination :-). No further comments.

Ignoring these MQM apologetics, The thing which seems very upset is that MQM is blaming a Pathan group ANP and published stupid pics to claim they are Pathans who created all fuss. Just visit this URL. Here they show a guy ,looks like pathan, wearing a ID card and have been circled. MQM’s mentality is not different than mentality of ASh who called the guy PPP terrorist because eh carried the flag. Maybe Ash is their advisor and leading them;). Now pathans are not so much “PATHANS” that they would wear their party badges.

MQM keeps doing mistake. Why MQM was in hurry to publish pictures? What did they want to prove? some sorta fear that news agency would publish images of MQM activists on TV? or they got puzzled after watching live footage of people who were firing at Business Recorder Building? Day before yesterday they made another foolish mistake that MQM’s Imran farooq gave statment of Condemnation only after 3 hours of attack. Munir’s house was attacked around 1:00 AM night and Imran farooq released the statment around 4 PM which later published on Jang paper around 6:00 AM. The other interesting thing is Governer’s statment was Pubslished at 7:00 AM on Jang’s website. Was governer not sleeping for the whole night or he had already made a template of statment so tht it could be released early in the morning. Nothing is going in favor of MQM. I can just hope Allah gives them some sense to understand the reality.

self, i dont think so oponents burnt MQM office. A party who killed Azeem Tariq, his own men can kill others as well.

KHI4EVA: I am a MOHAJIR but not an MQM supporter. Learn first thing tonight, NOT every Mohajir had joined MQM. Several other parties also had urdu speaking politicians.

I would recommend people to watch COMPANY,the Indian movie. MQM’s strategy is not different than the Bombay’s Underworld system.

  77. ash (unregistered) on May 13th, 2007 @ 1:07 am

RM, i think that their position of responsibility makes the MQM more culpable than anyone else for today. As for more good or bad? -not diff from any other party in karachi. A lot of bad. Some good.

  78. redsnapper (unregistered) on May 13th, 2007 @ 1:12 am

I start to write here on the blogs but when I see the discussion drifiting to mqm/others, mulla/non-mulla, I sometimes think what’s the point.

No party is right and, for some, their party is not wrong. The dilemma of Karachi is so evident here. Its either MQM or the JI. Whoever can hold the stronger punch.

MQM was wrong in inciting trouble by holding a rally on May 12. They should not have been so insecure. Or, alternately, they should not have poodled their way behind Mush. Mistake.

Other political parties capitalizing on CJ issue. Wrong there too.

Maturity needed by all … well it was shown elsewhere in the past few weeks. The backlash at MQM is because they could have just passed the baton just like Pervez Elahi did in Lahore.

Instead, they chose to incite/poodle. In doing so, they went overboard. I feel strongly they hurt their vote bank. A pity because I feel political parties mature over time.

The historic debilitating, devastating and depriving day of 12th May, I was scrolling the channels on air to unleash the expected chaos in the city of lights which was burning under the raging fire, arms and ammunation fantasizing the glory of evil. It was a humiliating doomed sight of menace created and accordingly planned to exhibit unrivaled power and supremacy.
I respect and salute the efforts exerted by the entire team of Aaj TV who somehow managed to bring the best coverage of the realistic situation.
I realised quite early that if there is a channel which deserves viewership which can expose truth to the common man then this is the one. Its evident and understandable that its not easy to survive when an artificial fraudalent vision is condemned… Seeing is believing But normally what channels show is not what it really is, Despite the fact freedom of speech is allotted to Media but it is only allotted to eventually support and upbring Govt policies and Acts. The Strong Media Sources are even somehow co-related to the present Govt whilst the might of freedom has been also provided to them by the present Govt itself. Truth which can radically deteriorate Govt’s image is hidden or is debated to an extent and finally covered with a shining foiling approach, it is also possible that meanwhile a different situation/event occuring might get an exclusive projection which disects and diversifies the attention of the majority. Aaj TV is undoubtedly exposing present day situation with immense courage, caliber and commitment and this is an unprecedented contribution which will prosper our future and assist in achieving factual Democracy, Stable Law and Order SItuation, Economic Prosperity and Employment Opportunities.
THE TERRORIST ACTIVITIES & BRUTAL CORRUPTION WERE CEASED WHEN THE TERRORISTS WERE SATISFIED CNSEQUENTLY RESULTING ACCEPTABLE IMAGE ABROAD. NOW WHEN THE SITUATION IS CHALLENGING RATHER THEN FIGHTINING WITH PEN AND PAST ACHIEVEMENT DESCRIPTION IT SEEMS MORE FEASIBLE TO UNLEASH THE SKILLFUL BREACH OF LAW AND ORDER

Of all the newspapers and television channel in Karachi’s history only AAJ TV. has had the guts to expose the true face of the MQM. No newspaper including the ever objective Dawn and The News, and no news channel including the much celebrated Geo and ARY have had the balls to portray the true face of the terrorists that MQM are. Our independent media criticises everyone from Musharraf to Nawaz to Benazir, but somehow in Karachi the MQM always escaped criticism, highlighting the strong hold the terrorists and that fat pig in London control Karachi. This is my first visit to this blog. I have seen a lot of intolerance behaviour from you and some other fellow writers of this blog. You called prime minister Shouket Aziz as “MUSH SPOON is barking”. And “MUSH” means Pervez Musharraf? And fat pig for Altaf Hussain by OMAR (Same for you) ….. Please don’t go at that stage where you can’t go back. Yes, we should condemn the 12th MAY incident with full force but do you know that when a man has nothing to left anything to say then he starts barking!!
All of you, had condemned the terrorist activities of MQM on 12th MAY but did not condemned the terrorism of other parties like PPP , ANP, PPI, PML (N), HAQIQI group, Sunni Tehrek, Jamat-e-Islami …. If you don’t condemn the terrorist acts of these parties then it means that YOU ARE IN FAVOUR of criminal acts of these parties.
You people only see ONE SIDE of the picture. For the other side of this picture, wait till VIDEOS of these terrorist parties will be ON aired. Some people has recorded these inhuman acts as videos . Till then, see these pictures of 12th MAY :

    Respected sir,

Subject: Bargaining to prescribe the medicines

Here I want to share a serious and unexplored issue of our society.
I am medical representative in sanofi aventis pharmaceutical and have 8 years experience in sales.

    1) This sales segment is more corrupt than our police because most of the Pharmaceutical companies offer attractive incentives to prescribe their drugs or force to prescribe those drugs with have not any value to treat the patient like food supplements multivitamins
    2) Many Pharmaceutical companies set high prices of their products and
Offer Cars, air conditioners, foreign pleasure trips, cash etc.
    3) Why I am encompassing to these activities in corruption.

Because doctors knows that the medicine costing, for example 100 rupee to patient is also available in 30 rupees or less which have same or even better efficacy same salt or ingredient better company repute and faith on results and economy to the patient. The doctor will not prescribe this medicine because he has not given money. Believe me that more than 60% doctors are bargainers and ignore the patient benefits and prioritize their personal financial benefits.
This kind of practice is not in a single medicine or a few companies but this is a unethical trend or let me say, Selfishness Poison penetrated in vessels of doctors and pharma marketers.
Here I want to elaborate my case
Different manufacturers with many brand names market Ofloxacine, salt
Like Tarivid ,Tariflox.ofloxin ,willoxin, oflobid, floxy etc ( more than 70 brands available in pakistan)
The price of one tablet(of Ofloxacine) varies from 2 rupees to 29 rupees. Here 2 rupees is minimum price charged for a tablet and 29 rupee is maximum per tablet but most of the manufactures have price for this salt in between 10 to 20 rupees.
If a manufacturer having price 20 rupees per tablet offers 5 rupees per tablet as incentive for doctor and other manufacturer having 10 rupee price does not give a penny to the doctors but provides superior efficacy than 20 rupee tablet in exactly same salt and doctor prescribes Rs 20 tablet even after knowing all fact is blunder with patient and dishonesty with his profession. Because patients do not know the price of different brand or event they do not know; what is salt.
Kindly keep in mind; this is example regarding one salt, which exactly applies to about all the countless medicines.
The authority seems impotent on this issue. So can we do anything on this issue? Or does anyone have already taken any action for this right now? If you know any information, please let me know.”
I also accept that all are not bad but believe me this is not scarce also.
Kind help me to create awareness in patients or to change the behavior of cream of our society (i.e. doctors).
    Thanks
