Major roads not blocked - Good job

I got a chance to drive through Gulshan-e-Iqbal, North Nazimabad, and Sharae Faisal last night and I was surprised to see that most of the roads had minimum water accumulation. Last year things were quite different and it was impossible to drive on those roads. So whatever the authorties have done, it worked. At least we get to witness some evidence of their performance.

I must say I was also very impressed about the lack of water accumalation. At least one dept. is doing its job. Keep it up.

On one post people complain about CDGK (http://karachi.metblogs.com/archives/2007/06/230_lives_lost.phtml#313440)

and on another post they praise CDGK for thier efforts ..

Last night I was also passing through the main road of North Nazimabad, near Hyderi Market, and was amazed to see that there was no accumulation of rain water. For years this road used to be flooded by rain water and I can still remember last year the same thing happened. But this time, the city government constructed a storm water drain which drained all the water well in time. Also I would say that all the new roads that have been completed recently have proper drainage systems and as a result no such road (including the new under passes) were flooded by the rain water.

Hats off to the CDGK and its young, educated and dynamic Nazim.

  6. Farah (unregistered) June 27th, 2007 5:37 pm

This Nazim’s not half bad come to think of it. Only thing that scares me is that he’s part of MQM. I detest MQM but I appreciate his efforts as a Nazim to improve Karachi. I dunno if I’m right or wrong, just seems a little weird.

  7. mantissa (unregistered) June 27th, 2007 5:59 pm

To add to the above comments, I was driving on SF this afternoon and saw plenty of heavy lifting equipment (from the city government) and workers at it with the cleaning - All bad mouthing aside, glad to see someone doing -something-!

  8. Zeeshan Syed (unregistered) June 27th, 2007 6:13 pm

I have said it before and I’ll say it again. He’s doing what no one has ever done before! Screw MQM, Mustafa Kamal rocks!

  9. Salman A. (unregistered) June 27th, 2007 7:24 pm

I agree with Zeeshan, we should appreciate whoever does anything good to our city, country, or society instead of just being a jack ass all the time.. by the way, i am NOT pro-MQM but M. Kamal has turned out to be the best mayor of KHI so far. you can call him ‘andhon mien kana raja’ or whatever i dont care…….

  10. Sohail (unregistered) June 27th, 2007 7:33 pm

100% agreed with most of the comments, Mustafa Kamal Rocks! and he have strength to speak up and loud, he is not like other MQM leaders who doesnt know how to speak.
Good job Nazim, he is doing very well and nobody did like him in history of karachi.
We need Mustafa Kamal for another term too, he have master plan for karachi not only parks like last Nazim. He is young, confident with full of energy, he is always on top of project, he visits ongoing project on site and monitor himself.
Great Job and Goodluck. God Bless You.

Last year the rainfall was more than 70mm and this time its less than 50mm. FYI University Road at Pizza Hut was flooded yesterday evening, Road near Bait-ul Mukkaram Masjid has a trench filled with water and people have placed dirt bags to cross it. Gharibabad flyover has water accumulated over it, FB Area has turned into a big pool of rain and sewerage water with potholes and craters every where.

    Well done CDGK

I fail to understand why its taking them so long to complete the carpeting work? Old Sabzi Mandi road is dug up since last 6 weeks and its a serious threat for commuters.

There has been a lot of good work done in Karachi by City Nazim Mustafa Kamal. He has worked day and night. It is not easy to keep an eye on all counsellors and workers.

Wealth has never been a sufficient source of honour in itself. It must be advertised, and the normal medium is obtrusively expensive goods.

  15. Shabbir (unregistered) June 27th, 2007 9:47 pm

One of the challenges, karachi has 13 different jurisdrictions which are not under M.Kamal. I think he has done an excellent job, and I hope he will continue to do so. This has been a blessing for Karachi.

when i heard it on TV, by none other than mustafa kamal, i was a bit skeptical but ur post seems to confirm what he’s saying.

The one thing we should keep in minds is, this year we had a tropical storm, not monsoon rains.. there’s a big difference in the amount of damage both do..

the whole year i saw drainage being revamped all over the city, glad to see atleast that worked out.

hats off to CDGK! my vote goes to mustafa kamal this year again :D

    ***** My question:

Are you new to Karachi? Did you just move to Karachi? University Road section passing through old Zabzi Mandi has been in bad shape for almost thirty years (atleast since 1978). Khuda jhoot nah bolvaa-ae, I have never passed through that section of Univ Road without cursing the rulers of the day.

    Dear commentators;

Don’t praise Mustafa Kamal too much,

his higher ups might get jealous & you know

he won’t be a Nazim then..

  20. d0ct0r (unregistered) June 27th, 2007 10:52 pm

roads around city court flooded… city council(where all these nazims attend council’s meetings) flooded badly.. , roads around chundigar road flooded and death traps dug up all around.. saw few KIA trucks and bus stuck in quick sand …

today Nazim was busy arguing with a lady presentor of local channel and was trying to convince her that only 59 people had died in rain related incidents and figured of 228 was cooked up by edhi officials themselves…

p.s. all is not bad.. i saw municipal workers clearing debris and broken trees/branches and clearly up the mess and interestingly at my place i just had 30 mins of loadshedding in last 50 hours which is quite an improvement from 4~6 hours of loadshedding daily…

  21. d0ct0r (unregistered) June 27th, 2007 10:59 pm

rangers personnel are also helping traffic police and each intersection is being manned by 4 ranger personnel and 1 traffic cop.. and traffic seem to be flowing smoothly all around the city… except for bumps and potholes that were dug ,all those pits are filled with water and vehicles get stuck in them and cause traffic jams..

  22. d0ct0r (unregistered) June 27th, 2007 11:04 pm

kesc workers were also working round the clock and most of the poles that were uprooted and now repaired and rewiring is being done on them..

    @Adnan Siddiqi
Adnan Siddiqi you should be shamed of your self, pointing fingers on some one’s wife and personal life on a public forum, u your self r a confused man, u have earlier said on your blog that in early 90s u were a big supporter of MQM and that u and your family have laways casted votes to MQM,MQM was the same in past as it is today than why in the past u were a supporter of MQM and now against it, in an another post on your blog u have said that a “few days back I knew taht I was Baralvi and not a Deobandi”,the person who clearly dont know about his religion than what can you except from such a person, now I know very well that u will delete all the entries from your blog so that u can proof me wrong but ot does’nt matter because you will remain the same “Mentally disturbed and confused” Adnan Siddiqi,on stop making that bull shit on internet if u really have some guts than come and do some thing practical in real life.

  29. Azfar Thanvi (unregistered) June 28th, 2007 11:32 am

    @Marium
u r right, this person Adnan Siddiqi is really mentally disturbed, he is just trying to get some publicity in the public, few days back in some post on KMB he advised a person to do sucide by burning himself in front of Parliment, this person is really get mad and lost all his senses, he is the follower of some starnge creature who is known as Mullah Tariq Jamil, I think that in the religion of Mullah Tariq jamil and Adnan it is allowed to do sucide by burning one self in front of parliment house, at least my religion which is “ISLAM” does’nt allow sucide.

  31. d0ct0r (unregistered) June 28th, 2007 2:05 pm

lastly i did mentioned the constructive role played by armed MQM terrorist during all this catastrophe

” At this time of misery, shameful scenes were witnessed as activists of the MQM staged an armed takeover of the Edhi morgue on Saturday night, ostensibly to prevent bodies from being shifted to the cold-storage facility. The motives behind the siege can only be surmised — it could have been an attempt to downplay the death toll by thwarting data collection by a widely respected organisation, or a move by elements wanting to take credit for the relief work done selflessly by the Edhi Foundation.”

  37. KhiTorPit (unregistered) June 28th, 2007 9:35 pm

I dont know why you guys are praising the city’s Nazim for the kind of work he has done in Khi.

Some of you guys are talking about the water accumlation cleaned up by the CDGK, I think you guys dont go out of your home … see today’s jang newspapers and you will see that even after a week … how much water is still accumulated at major places in Khi. If the water is still accumulated at Nipa chowrangi which is a major intersection and empress market which is a busiest place in Khi … then what can you say about other areas ?

The federal govt. has allocated 30 billion rupees for the city’s development and if city govt has constructed some flyovers and roads from that huge amount whats a big deal eh? We have water, electricity, traffic, a big crime rate but cdgk is satisfied just by making a couple of parks and flyovers.

Mustafa Kamal bhi zehar lagta hai, he says due to the storm in Khi only 65 ppl are dead, denying the numbers of death toll provided by Edhi which was more than 200.
Mustafa Kamal says that their was no news about the storm in Khi thats why we were not prepared for it, that is also a big lie, as three days earlier the met office has announced severe monsoon weather expected in Khi.

The cheif minster says that the bill board fell down bcoz of the kind of pict. it has on it, so I would say that why it didnt fall onto him then ? as he is the CM of Khi. He should have removed them b4 if he knew that it could have fallen down due to those pict on it.

By looking at some of the comments here I think the ppl in govt. are clever enough in fooling around the public.

  38. Imran (unregistered) June 28th, 2007 10:20 pm

    @KhiTorPit,
I guess you did not read some of the comments in which ppl have mentioned that Karachi has been ignored for decades, there is no over night solution my fried. Things are messed up in karachi big time and need complete overhaul. Open your eyes and look around you will feel the difference. nobody saying that everything is perfect in Karachi now,but they all saying that there is a little progress and he is working in a good direction. The drainege system in Karachi has been ignored by all previous Nazims and with keeping the traffic flow and scarce resources along with corrupt employees at all levels, it is pretty difficult to bring a change.
It was a natural disastor which has never been experienced by this generation at least. City is not prepared for this kind of storms and we dont have any Disastor recovery plan since we never needed that. SHAME On you and others who are instead of helping out others complaining about the CDGK.In the times of natural disastor, it is everybody’s responsibility to come forward and help each other and the government, but people like you wait for something like this to happen so you can bitch about the government…….GO get a life because People of Karachi no who has done what to Karachi.

  39. d0ct0r (unregistered) June 28th, 2007 10:55 pm

university road all the way from civic center(nazim’s office) till central jail is dug up and rain water have accumulated into these ditches … similarly area around Chundigar Road looks like ground zero where some one might have dropped a bomb, its all dug up and rain have further messed things up.. in some areas these ditches were refilled but road wasn’t recarpeted so vehicles get stuck there in puddle created after rain…

secondly about that Nazim-e-Nala Mustafa Kamal, while talking to Anwar Maqsood in an interview he said that he didn’t owned a personal home (and further said that with Nazim’s meagre salary one can’t build a personal home).. whereas for the record not only does he own a house but after being inducted as Nazim he have done renovations worth around Rs 12 Million

  40. bluemax (unregistered) June 29th, 2007 1:40 am

@Doctor, Since I (and probably many others) dont personally know you so you have to post references for the “facts” that you provide on this forum. “renovations worth around Rs 12 Million” … is this your usual “since-i-said-it-so-you-must-believe” post? Either you were the contractor for the renovations or may be you are a family member/friend of the Nazim.

  41. d0ct0r (unregistered) June 29th, 2007 2:55 am

@bluemax yea we had a common contractor, who was working at one of my place, i had even visited and seen his house from inside while work was in progress.. as far as that 12million figure is concerned , i had not personally seen any payment slip or receipts but was verbally told by my contractor about the estimated cost.. and one can easily judge himself as well about the estimated cost if one have recently undertaken any kind of construction work etc..

and the statement that he doesn’t own a house is totally incorrect

  42. Imran (unregistered) June 29th, 2007 2:59 am

BLUEMAX, I guess you are new to this forum that is why you dont know about Doctor. He/she(not sure about the gender) is famous for writing facts without any proves and bases. That is why I have stopped commenting on his posts. He either writes for Ummat Akhbar, Takbeer, Jasarat or reads them everyday because you only find these type of stuff in these so called news agencies. I have asked him few days ago about Shoaib Khan who he claimed to be a worker of mqm but he could not provide any info about his past.
Doctor is a mqm hater and here to spread lies and hate against mqm. So please ignore his comments because we can only feel sorry for his childish baseless accusations and comments and feel sorry for his family who have to deal with him every single day….

  47. d0ct0r (unregistered) June 29th, 2007 12:00 pm

roads around old haji camp towards civil hospital and SUIT are inundated with filthy water.. now if that sounds like complaining then be it coz its the case and seems like those responsible in that area are not doing their work properly…

dear imran it’s allowed to talk with namahrams where needed or when giving teachings. This is the reason Ayesha(RA) used to teach hadiths to several sahabis behind curtain(Pardah).

If you are referring my last comment(seeking attention wala) then yes I admit that I DID violate the religion’s rules but the first one in which I clarified to her was necessary and didn’t violate the islamic rule

  49. d0ct0r (unregistered) June 29th, 2007 12:06 pm

I respect Doctor’s freedom to post his/her comments, nothing personal, but writing facts & figures without any references/proofs just show how credible other comments would be. Past comments like “PEL meters are twice as fast”, “Bomb at Civic center”, etc.

  54. d0ct0r (unregistered) June 30th, 2007 12:07 am

u don’t really expect me to post interview of construction firm’s owner online just to convince you? these intolerant terrorist might get him killed instantly.. these terrorist can’t even tolerate harmless welfare organization like Edhi and terrorize their staff what else do you expect from them.. i won’t insist you to believe my words ,just ask some die hard MQM fan to verify that Nazim is indeed living in a recently renovated house..

secondly that PEL meter comment.. let me add something to it.. not just PEL meters but most of the new meters that are recently installed by KESC outside boundary wall are running faster then the previous meters..(1.5~2 times faster), KESC instead of doing a crackdown on kunda users thought of a novel idea to cut down losses.. by milking those consumers who were already paying their bills on time so they ordered faster meters from the manufacturers(PEL etc) .. either your not living in karachi or your meter wasn’t replaced with new meter and placed outside the boundarywall recently(mine was) or you are not at all aware of(or care for) the electricity units consumed in your house and your daddy pays all the bills…

lastly that hoax bomb call at civic center … if you’ve read that comment properly you must have seen that some one pasted a link about that news of hoax bomb call and i was merely reporting it.. and it was clearly mentioned later on that its hoax…

finally i don’t need your or any one else’s stamp of approval to authenticate my comments..

Man you really need some help. The way you put stuff against mqm is like the minute you say anything against mqm you are dead..wooo.. I wonder how come you and all others like you still alive in Karachi????you may say well nobody knows who you are right but what about others who live in Karachi and openly against MQM like workers of JI,PPP,ST,TI,Blaah blaah,,are still alive??? Ohh yeah I forgot they killing them one by one because can’t kill all of them at once..:)

You know what is the philosiphy of ppl like you,
    1. If anybody gets killed in Karachi and belongs to any other party other than mqm, then MQM is the one who killed him
    2. If Mqm humdard gets killed, then he was going to change his mind so they killed him
    3. If mqm workers get killed, then he wanted to leave MQM so they killed him

    4. If MQM is in opposition, then you ppl cry that MQM wants to break Pakistan, they are against the Army, the Country, they destroying the peace and all they want is Strike.Strike is not the solution,,GHareeb marta hai..OHH my GOD Evil ppl

    5. If MQM is in Government, then you ppl Cry they are with the dictator, Army unkai saath hai, Lets call a strike, burn karachi, shutdown….

I know Doctor very well. He used to hang out with Nasrullah shajji(JI’s leader in parliment) in Karachi university. I have seen him participating in clashes at Urdu science college and KU against Apmso. It was i guess 1998 when JI had a clash with APMSO and when worker of APMSO was hurt big time. Doctor was involved in that shooting incident and since then he has never come back to Urdu science to my best knowledge. I really dont want to release Doctor’s name in this forum because it will not be safe for him since Shajji is also looking for him because of some internal JI’s disputes…

  58. d0ct0r (unregistered) June 30th, 2007 12:59 am

@Imran “I am just wondering who are THEY??”

as far as “THEY” is concerned it could be the terrorist in cheif Altaf bhai who micro manages the party and can’t tolerate any dissenters in the party and at the slightest hint eliminates them brutally

those 5 points are really amusing and you seem to have answered some of `em your self..

  59. d0ct0r (unregistered) June 30th, 2007 1:02 am

anyways as a MQM supporter you’d be better position to answer the “THEY” question…

  60. d0ct0r (unregistered) June 30th, 2007 1:12 am

its really amusing when MQM workers start calling others of being a jamat islami supporter when ever their terrorism is exposed.. let me state clearly that i am not a jamat islami supporter if that makes you happy.. not only jamat islami but common karachiites are also affected by terrorist activities of MQM and so naturally they hate MQM but
MQM just considers every opposing voice to be that of jamat islami.. maybe they haunt you too much?

  61. d0ct0r (unregistered) June 30th, 2007 1:15 am

and whenever it feels insecure or exposed then within no time MQM starts showing its true face just like it showed in the case of abusive wall chalking against Imran khan all over karachi

Doctor, did you check the calibration of the electric meter yourself? I mean putting a load of 1KWh and checking the units on the meter? Or have you just compared your bills from old and new meters. May be your old meter was running slow. How come … because it is made up of wires and gears which can slow down over the years.

You also said, “some one pasted a link about that news of hoax bomb call and i was merely reporting it”. Spreading news without confirming them is not an appropriate behavior and you may already know the term used in Islam for that kind of a person.

@bluemax read that post again in which that hoax bomb call was mentioned it might clear things up for you, i merely reported about bomb threat which was made by unknown caller at civic center.. and that phone conversation actually took place. so why make a fuss out of it..

about the meters well actually i compared previously consumed units before change of meters and units consumed after the new

meters were installed.. my actual consumption is almost identical to what it was before the conversion but the unit consumed shown by new meter much higher then previous one…
and its not just me,its general public perception that new meters are faster as compared to old one..

Nazim Karachi have come up with new figure of number of dead during rain to 89, if his figures are to be believed then it means the all those hundreds of dead bodies were kidnapped by MQM’s armed terrorists during the armed holdup of Edhi morgue

yeah it was a good job done by CDGK. No traffic jams this time. but more rain is abt to come. Lets c how they cope with it.

There were quick solutions of digging the street so that water doesnt stay on the street. It really helped out but now they have closed those.

Moonsoon season is abt to begin and thuderstorms and expected. I hope we dont get electricity cut offs and traffic jams in out beloved city.

I dont like MQM but at least this time, they shud be appreciated for their better job. They shud repair the roads they have torn down [in order to get money from musharraf] quickly.

money is not much of a problem for MQM they’ll be getting Rs 1 billion shortly… 200 million already been handed over to them..

Doctor… it seems like you depend wayyyyy too much on the Media! Dude, our Media is not far behind CNN and FOX. It’s all Biased. I agree, you should tone it down a bit! A tad!

we often have to rely on media for news coz we don’t have reporters on ground to verify each and every news, and we have to your our own personal judgment and commonsense to filter out wrong news from right one… now for example if MQM’s terrorist start saying that 12May massacre didn’t took place at all and it was just a conspiracy by media to tarnish their image, then obviously nobody would believe their ridiculous statement coz the whole world have seen them killing innocent public.. similarly just today media is reporting that CM Baluchistan’s Plane skidded off the runway after its tyre busted and a near fatal accident was averted, now one have no reason to question the credibility of this news item.. even though one can’t personally verify it .. some times one have to rely on media for news..

I have read the comments but these couldn’t convince me for the MQM, the job (250 deaths) Nazim has done at the cost of billions, i can do it with no cost! Give me a try.

Every one is praising the MQM but not considering the figures MQM have handed over by the Federal Govt. If Naimatuallah had been given that amount and time it would have been totaly different positively. Any way every one has right to express him/her self so I.

During Naimatullah tenior the ratio was 80:20 (Approx), now its vice versa.

These roads are constructed after about 20 years of span, will these newly constructed roads long for next 10 years? If your answer is Yes then I appreciate MQM otherwise start condemning them.
