Earth Day - Karachi Style

http://karachi.metblogs.com/archives/images/2007/04/Chopedtrees-thumb.jpgJust yesterday Mansoor made a post on the Earth Day which even outlined some good pointers to help conserve our resources, he even mentioned a walk being organized by the Sindh Environmental Agency for the cause which was to be held at Mazar-e-Quaid for raising awareness about saving our planet.

But yet this week we got to witness a rampant cutting of trees on Shahrai-Faisal which according to sources at Dawn was orchestrated by none other then ‘The Sindh Environmental Agency’. The agency is said to have been authorized for clearing away the median for the proposed Karachi Elevated Expressway. Today I took the time to even count the number of trees chopped down on Shahrai-Faisal (from Tipu Sultan Road to FTC) a Grand Total of 62 trees have been mutilated by the authorities in this small section of SF

It is this same agency that has gone to approve the KEE project despite the fact that a number of professional have indicated that the agency has deliberately overlooked a large number of environmental hazards posed by this project. But how can you argue with an agency which chooses to environmentally destroy its own province they very day it holds an awareness walk to protect the environment. Will you trust them to protect your earth - I can’t
