Yes… I just always stick to the TV whenever this ad campaign or the cartoons of Safeguard come. When I first saw this campaign, from that teaser song “Darham Barham” till the Mission Cleanup, I was totally amazed, and in fact Proud of the efforts that were put in it. From the 3d animations to the characters [Malkah Dirty, Kachra Rani, Dirtoo..] , and the dialogues [Main houn Jaraseem ki Malkah Dirty, Jo kisi say Nahi darti!!! ] , it totally rocks!! Only the ” tick tick tick tick tick tick tick ” is a lil irritating, but overall cartoon does leave an impression on the viewer. Even the Commander Safeguard himself is so cute, beats any Superman or Spiderman!! Uptill now I assume its all Pakistanis’ efforts and ideas, if anyone has more information about it, do let us know.

As compared to Safeguard, Lifebuoy has been trying to gain attention by their campaign “Koii Darr Nahi”, but blv. me… by this idea of Safeguard’s, they’ve taken over the soap market [I myself have started using Safeguard more] and the hearts of Pakistanis, by involving them completely in this campaign emotionally and practically.

Are you With Me????

At last… the Clifton Beach Park was honoured too by our presence there at the Middle of the Night!! Found it lovely and a Nice place for a peaceful walk, with the calm effect of the beautiful surroundings and certainly a good entertaining point for the public… all at the cost of 5 Rs. Only!!

The only nagging feeling was that the play area for kids was way too small to accommodate the BIG population of Karachi Kids… and No “Sand” there for the safety measures, and obvioulsy to play with!! Other than that, the park was big enough to dissolve even a big crowd, and yet would look peaceful and you’ll be able to find a private spot to chill out!!

I know I was a bit late to visit the place, but a night too early too.. as tonight at 7:30 the inauguration ceremony of the “Port Fountain” would be going on at the same place… so anyone going there, to celebrate the “President’s Vision”???

Assalaam o Alaikum,

Lets get out of Defense and I.I.C road for a night [though I never lived there, but on khi.metblogs it seems everyone resides or works over there!]Ö

At 12:30 am [I know this sounds insane!], with a warm effect of heater in your closed car in a wintry night, deserted, traffic-less roads all to yourself, it cant be more fun having a Long drive with almost Full Moon and your family. Starting from Gulistan-e-JoharÖ while its not that late and you can still witness some of the late activities [like the wedding ceremonies] going around and then moving slowly towards Karsaaz, experiencing the newly built road youíll realize Karachi ainít that bad!

Then comes defense road, defense phase 1Ö all quiet and let you pass peacefully [Except for one or two bumpy roads of defense, I myself was amused on the smooth ride of Gulistan e Johar and Karsaz roads.] towards the Korangi whose signs can be seen far before it comes. Passing the Korangi bridge that is still under construction, and you can only see the pillars standing with lots of construction stuff laid around, we enter in a completely different world.

KorangiÖ where mostly the lower-middle class of Karachi lives. With lots of marriage lawns and everything, itís a big community and a world in itself. Other than the extremely unbearable smell of the naddi/nala passing under one of the bridge and the industrial wastage dumped over there youíll also find really narrow alleys and houses built on 80 yards only, lots of shops which look so better when closed, and some dhabbas/restraunts serving you seekh kababs, chaey and ìbhainson ka khalis doodhî even after 1 in the night. Except for the completely deserted roads, which are like heaven in night and full of traffic the whole day youíll see a few men trying to warm themselves with the fire lit in front of them. Or a dog or two running over here and there, trying to hide themselves under some car, to avoid the cold.

The buses are one business that runs all night on the roads of Karachi, giving the services to the citizens round the clock. And you can even tail them if you are lost in Karachi and you donít know which way to go out. Through the Korangi Creek , LaandhiÖ and after taking some wrong turnsÖ you come to Quaidabad, then comes Maleer.. and you end up at Airport, Sharah e Faisal!!! I was surprised to see that how near Korangi is from the airport.. or it just looked like that to me!?? 10 mins drive more and I was back in Gulistan e JoharÖ where there were more lights and life than the rest of the Karachi I saw this night. That completed our round of Karachi and I realized Karachi can be peaceful too only when everyone is ASLEEP!

One and a half hourÖ a tank full of CNG, 51.2 kilometers.. thatís all what it takes to move around WHOLE KarachiÖ but make sure its 1 in the night tooÖ or youíll be stuck for 3 hours or more in the traffic at different places!

Salaam,

Sadly, with the Karafilm festival going on in the city, I see a nice event getting completely ignored. But being a Book Lover, how could I miss that small news in Review-Dawn which goes like this..

OUP is holding its first Karachi International Book Fair in which books from Pakistan, India, UK and USA will be on sale at the Expo Centre from December 7. The chief guest on the occasion will be Dr Hamida Khoro and keynote speaker will be Dr Romila Thapal. The programme will start at 4pm.

I dont have any idea what OUP is, nor do I know if they’ll let me In… I was only Happy to see something of my interest atlast.

Though one can find any kind of book in Karachi, original or pirated… which you can buy from Thailas [cart stalls] to Paramount and Liberty bookstores… I still appreciate such events going on, which highlights the importance of books in our lives… even in this era of technology where we’ve almost forgotten what books are!!

Assalaam o Alaikum Karachi,

DHF.. or CCHF… or DHF.. no… just some hemorrhagic fever.. But hemorrhagic fever…!! I was completely confused whats going on in my city… its nothing to Panic about.. but we should be knowing whats the EXACT thing we are facing, so that we can fight against it and take the precautionary steps.
While everyones focusing on CCHF and its preventions… I was receiving mails related to DHF [Btw, DHF is Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever!!] instead and after reading the article in dawn, Prevention only solution to Viral Fever in which the author has mentioned that DHF was diagnosed instead of CCHF in some patients , I thought its better that we know about EVERYTHING..

Dengue/Hemorrhagic fever (CONGO Virus) and Preventions:

Dengue

* Dengue [DEN-ghee] is a flu-like viral disease spread by the bite of
infected mosquitoes. Dengue hemorrhagic fever is a severe, often fatal,
complication of dengue.
* There is no specific treatment for dengue.
* Prevention centers on avoiding mosquito bites in areas where dengue
occurs or might occur and eliminating breeding sites.

Where is dengue found?

The mosquitoes that transmit dengue live among humans and breed in
discarded tires, flower pots, old oil drums, and water storage containers
close to human dwellings. Unlike the mosquitoes that cause malaria, dengue
mosquitoes bite during the day.

What are the signs and symptoms of dengue fever and dengue hemorrhagic
fever?

Dengue fever usually starts suddenly with a high fever, rash, severe
headache, pain behind the eyes, and muscle and joint pain. The severity of
the joint pain has given dengue the name “break bone fever.” Nausea,
vomiting, and loss of appetite are common. A rash usually appears 3 to 4
days after the start of the fever. The illness can last up to 10 days, but
complete recovery can take as long as a month. Older children and adults
are usually sicker than young children.

Most dengue infections result in relatively mild illness, but some can
progress to dengue hemorrhagic fever. With dengue hemorrhagic fever, the
blood vessels start to leak and cause bleeding from the nose, mouth, and
gums. Bruising can be a sign of bleeding inside the body. Without prompt
treatment, the blood vessels can collapse, causing shock (dengue shock
syndrome). Dengue hemorrhagic fever is fatal in about 5 percent of cases,
mostly among children and young adults.

How can dengue be prevented?

There is no vaccine to prevent dengue. Prevention centers on avoiding
mosquito bites when traveling to areas where dengue occurs.
* Use mosquito repellents on skin and clothing.
* When outdoors during times that mosquitoes are biting, wear long-sleeved
shirts and long pants tucked into socks.
* Avoid heavily populated residential areas.
* When indoors, stay in air-conditioned or screened areas. Use bed nets if
sleeping areas are not screened or air-conditioned.
* If you have symptoms of dengue, report your travel history to your
doctor.

Whether it be DHF or CCHF.. its still hemorrhagic fever …. and its dangerously dangerous that we already know. We can still take the precautions, and pray to Allah that He keeps us safe and in His amaan. Ameen.

P.S: A link I found useful to know about all the viral hemorrhagic fevers.
