We have seen beautiful pictures of Seaview at Karachi, here I am sharing pictures I have taken early morning after 5 a.m. Peoples mostly come here in the evenings, nights and specially in weekends. But if you go early morning, you find how people behave with the sea they pretend to love.

There are so many homeless people living here. They come from all over the country and in days/nights they sale things like food items and other stuff. You find them sleeping on these benches. And dirt all over is obvious. Some time I feel how Sea tolerates these things and give happiness in return to all people who come here to enjoy!

Two people have reportedly lost their lives and dozens severely injured in fierce clashes at the University of Karachi today. The confrontation started around half past noon earlier today at the Arts Faculty between rival political groups, The All Pakistan Muttaihada Students Association and The Jamiatut Talabai Pakistan. The proposed new head honchos/owners of the KESC, the much maligned and intermittent electric supply company of Karachi have expressed a desire to raise the electricity tariff per unit by Rs 3 if they are to take over. We must remember here that KESC after removal of the government subsidies just imposed a 16% GST plus an additional 10% levy of income tax if the Bill exceeded 20,000 Rs.

To top off this act NEPRA has also already raised the electric tariff to where it stands now by 15% from July 1st. These new owners belong to a Dubai based group and will if things work out be taking charge officially in the end of November this year. To put it simply if your house consumes 1000 units your bill will escalate by about 30-45% more than what it is right now.

As if the populace of this city is not already back broken from the exorbitant increase in prices of its daily edibles and what not, we may have to suffer further humility at the hands of the KESC “if” this new ownership takes over. Interestingly enough on an average basis starting from March onwards till October Karchites go through 4-5 hrs of non electricity in spite of paying their bills.

I wonder if the proposed ownership plans to also do something about the numerous “Free” users of KESC in this city as well or perhaps the entire communities of people living on koondas, at the behest of honest consumers who may have to suffer almost ridiculous bills due to this proposed new increase!!

I wish i knew why our government never does anything to give us some relief.  Oh right i keep forgetting that is not why people join politics in Pakistan.

Alas my fellow Karachites I think the time of charags may come before bicycles here.

Dawat-e-Islami is a Karachi-based Non-political, non-violent, Islamic tanzeem (organization) which has its head quarters at Old Sabzi Mandi. As little is known about its work or its people, I feel that I should introduce it to the people of Karachi. At most people know that they wear green turbans are often referred to as Janati Totay (Parrots from Heaven). Many people also claim that they are not spreading true word of Islam. AT recently said that AZ should be the next president. This he thinks is better for country. Many see it in quite different perspective. For Karachi this might be a good gesture, no matter whatever is the real agenda. For country’s sake this seems shocking. What you think is the real reason Altaf bhai gave such a statement? Was it because of the reconciliation fever that seems to take on everyone in country or after sitting in power for 5 years Altaf bhai finally realized the attraction is too difficult to resist? What they say in urdu ki iqtidaar ka maza muu ko lag gaya hai. There is no doubt about the fact that no matter how much you despise the two, currently Karachi is in their hands & luckily/unluckily people have choosen them. With agencies always ready to get political parties fight each other do you think both guys are taking right steps for peace in karachi? Please also comment especially in view of the fundamental reason MQM was born i.e the fight for the rights of the Urdu speaking community in Pakistan (Karachi). Do you guys believe this cause is still alive or it’s dead now?

Just heard confirmed news that a bomb blast has happened near the Saddar Police Lines. People driving through there, be careful and call in your homes if you are out and have taken the same route today.

Update: Dawn adds, the explosion occurred on Sharah-e-faisal, one of Karachi’s busiest main roads at approximately 11:35AM. CCPO Wasim Ahmed confirmed that the device was a remote controlled bomb planted on a bicycle. However, it has not been confirmed if the bomb was specifically targeting the official.

3rd Annual ” Machar Art ” Exhibition opened it doors to public yesterday evening at The Elephant Ware House, Clifton. But this is not just another exhibition, the kind which is the usual feature of the city. This one is far more different because there is a cause attached to it. Organized by Concern For Children, the exhibition is comprised of 175 artworks mostly photographs created by the under privileged children of the Mohammadi (Machar) Colony and some of the work of country’s most prominent photographers and artists including Yousuf Bashir, Amean J, Tapu Javeri, Adnan Lotia, Kohi Marri, Arif Mahmood and Izdeyar Sethna. With a promises that the proceeds from this exhibition will go towards CFC,s Machar Colony Community Driven Project which addresses issues related to health, sanitation and education for the people of Karachi’s largest unofficial Kachi Abadi.

Written in 1940 by Rafi Peer, Usman Peerzada brings to life the story of Nawab Sahib Kibla starring Mohammad Qavi Khan, Javaid Rizvi, Mehreen Rafi and himself for 6 days at the Arts Council. Tickets at Rs.1000 are available for purchase from Agha’s Supermarket and Copper Kettle and proceeds from the sales will go towards The Citizen’s Foundation. The show started promptly at 930pm and shockingly, just one cellphone ringtone went off, but then that was before the MC made the announcement to remind the audience of the simple etiquettes, so we can let that one go.
