The Karachi Electric Supply Company has made alternative arrangements for payment of monthly electricity bills for those customers who have not received physical bills around their usual due date, given interruptions caused in the regular process by the union miscreants.
The KESC has developed this system as a supplementary support to facilitate the customers who might not receive their monthly printed bills before due date because of the union miscreants blocking distribution of bills and attacking the utility’s bill distributors. At several places the union miscreants snatched and tore up the customers’ bills that the distributing personnel had taken to deliver in different localities. At the same time, the newly devised methods of bill payment would also remain as permanent support feature of the KESC to receive bills through these channels in normal circumstances in future as well if the customers may find it convenient.
The KESC has drawn five easy methods for the convenience of customers which will be available henceforth besides the normal way of using printed bills.
First is to visit the utility’s official website, www.kesc.com.pk and enter the 13-digit account number to retrieve a duplicate copy of the current electricity bill which can be printed and can be presented at all banks for making payment. The banks have been taken into confidence about this measure and they have circulated the instruction to all branches for acceptance of duplicate bill.
Second way is to directly go to the offices of NADRA, NIB Bank branches, Easy Paisa outlets, UBL Omni Banking and 1-Link ATMs, and present the 13 digit account number. These outlets would retrieve bill details and provide a payment receipt of the bill to the customer.
Thirdly, the customers who do not receive their monthly bills, can telephone the KESC call centre 118 and follow the automated system to retrieve a duplicate copy of the bill. They can pay their bills through this duplicate.
Fourth way is to email customer’s 13-digit number to the ID:bill@kesc.com.pk after which they will receive an electronic copy of their bill which can be printed and presented to the bank for payment.
Fifthly, the customers familiar with online payment can use their existing online banking services where most banks will provide bill details before allowing payments.

Now RR is a club for elite in Defence and no one with chappals (slippers) are allowed. If you want your drivers to eat at your party for which you have paid yourself, beware they will be asked NOT to enter by the management if they are wearing chappals; only formal shoes allowed. On this someone at the party which I attended said, rules are rules and I was like yeah how rude. Finally the hosts managed to get their drivers in but that left me thinking that it is so easy to humiliate others and create class divide. Quaid ka Pakistan – no unity, pride and indiscipline!

Shades of Prey, a 52-chapter murder mystery set in Karachi, is the culmination of the project, A Novel Experience, which began at Generation’s School, Karachi, in 2005, with the intention of enhancing the writing skills of young people. Its authors are currently at college at a variety of institutions in Karachi, Lahore, and New York. Four of the six authors will be present at the book reading.

“Shades of Prey’s universal appeal lies in its being a gripping page-turner with an intriguing twist in the tale. But Shades of Prey is more than that. The backdrop is recognizably Pakistani. As the action moves across the urban landscape of parks, shopping malls, fun-fairs and suburban communities and enters the workings of newspaper offices, schools, police stations and television channels, it explores the functioning of our society.”

Author: Derek Gregory
Facilitator: Dr. Abu Bkar Shaikh

Description: In this powerful and passionate critique of the “war on terror” in Afghanistan, Palestine, and Iraq, Derek Gregory traces the long history of British and American involvements in the Middle East. He argues that the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on September 11 activated a series of political and cultural responses that mapped a profoundly colonial perimeter of power. The Colonial Present traces the connections between political, military, and economic power – the grand strategies of geopolitics – and the spatial stories told by the lives of ordinary people. It also shows the intimate connections between events in Afghanistan, Palestine, and Iraq. Packed with empirical detail, and shot through with arresting arguments, The Colonial Present is indispensable reading for anyone seeking to understand a world riven by a war on terror that is also a war of terror.
