Drag Racing

This image is a video grab taken from a video we made a couple of months back at the drag race that takes place every saturday night and sunday afternoons near Area 51. Its the road leading up to the DHA Golf Club. Saw this one kid, yes…literally a kid, with an EVO8. His dad gifted it to him for clearing his O’ Levels. The other cars have add ons worth more than the car itself. Its quite amazing, the atmosphere is charged up, burning rubber, screaching tyres, just being there gets your adrenalin going.

haha. brings back a vivid memory. – i had always wanted to attend/see/witness “Drag” because it was all that guys talk about. We hopped into our Santro and got comfy and headed towards the said place. as we reached there a race was in progress and people were yelling and screaming for the car that they wanted to win.

the second race started and a Santro took position. And my mouth dropped wide open as I could never imagine a car like THAT racing. Then the wacky-est thing happened: people thought WE are there because we wanna participate! EVERYONE started lookin at us and started pointing at us to take position. It was SO embarassing because THAT Santro OBviously had a better engine and blah. We reveresed on FULL SPEED and never went back because I have a feeling that we’d be recognized as the people of THAT Santro which RAN away.

    Just a lil story.

Well! for those who don’t know, let me tell u that car racing and car modification has spread in karachi very quickly! large majority of people r new comers` who were influenced by fast and the furious and 2fast2furious, there are some who are comitted to street racing from the begining when it started in 1996,i was then 13 years old when i saw drag racing! since then i learned alot about cars and bikes and now iam with the best (shah faisal bhai)commonly known to people as Bacha!. But there is a hinderence that most of the young guys don’t know the chemistry of racing and car modification, they just doit for pleasure and fun.. Money is a very big factor cos it is a very expensive sport`, the pioneers of car racing in pakistan is doubtless Nadeem Khan and bike racing is Faisal bhai and Pappu bhai. Nowadays if any accidents happen police trys to stop drags but a time will come that it would be legalized in karachi cos this is a sport of a large no of people living in DHA,clifton,Gulshana and N.Nazimabad that have very deep contacts in the diplomatic world.

The government should construct an international F1 standard road racing circuit in Karachi. the best location would be Super highway , coz it is close to nazimabad , north nazimabad , gulshan , gulistan e jauhar e.t.c.
