4 days and counting

Trust me, it’s no fun browsing the internet at such slow speeds. It literraly takes good 15 minutes to open up a web page. My entire work place is connected through dialup because our DSL provider refused to use the backup line. Now imagine 50 users connected to the same dialup line. I don’t know how many internet users in rest of the country have access.

According to latest news, it’s still going to take another couple of days to get the sub-marine cable fixed. Until then we have to linger. Ironically, most pakistani news websites are also down, probably because they are hosted in pakistan. Dawn is not working at all, at the moment. Jang group is working but their updates are not too frequent. PTCL website has no mention about the incident. You can check international news websites reporting the event here and here.

On an unrelated note, weather has been really awesome for a couple of days, specially today. The only thing visible above is dark clouds, waiting to dump the rain on the city. Maybe that’s how nature intended. We should be enjoying the weather instead of worrying about the net.

Update: Here’s the slashdot news. The rather sarcastic intellect of /. crowd continues to amaze me. And here is live coverage of the incident.

The Dawn site is working for me, atleast. The News site wasn’t working all morning yesterday, but as you said – the updates are pretty slow now. On the other hand the Daily Times site – http://www.dailytimes.com.pk has been hacked so they’ve been saved the hassle of updating their site at all :P
