7 Up

What do you all think of the new 7 up ad with Fido Dido in it? The one where the guy and girl are standing in their balconies and the guy is trying to tell the girl he loves her but not succeeding due to the music of the passing band and Fido Dido rescues the day by making a silence sign?

I think the ad is pretty okay but definitely not worth the HUGE budget it got made in. The whole team actually flew all the way to Poona, India to shoot this ad. Seriously, WHAT was the point?

well if a director wants it, let him have it his way? if the sponsor has no problem then what is the issue? its a good ad. of course teh best to date are Rhythm of Unity and Habib Bank’s recent campaign

‘Made in India’ written all over it. Why don’t we make ads in Pakistan?

I don’t like the ad much myself, but I understand why they shot it in Pune (that’s how it is spelt actually). I work in Advertising and the only real thrill we have at work is sometimes we get to travel abroad and the client foots the bill. So you try to set your ads in foreign locales as much as possible.

When interning at BBH in New York a few years back, a copy writer gave me my fave bit of advice: “Always start a concept with ‘Open on a small but beautiful village European village.’ If you get lucky you get to go there for the shoot.”

I’ve never been lucky at all by the way…

its not about directors…its about who’s ok with. but there is something called reasonable advertising..why spend a million if u can get the same thing done for a few hundred thousand?

and the ad isnt totally all that great in my personal opinion….

ive been in the industry for over 4 years now…
a lot better things have been done.

The Nido ad u mentioned, Nina, is a classic….
chaar mah ka hua, muskuranay laga….
backed by junaid jamshed on vocals….

ill try find out..and get back to u on where it was shot…although its been quite a while….

Karachi Met blog seems to be restricted to the Defence Clifton Area – probably that’s why the billboard of ‘Bed & Bath’ (near National Stadium) that was ‘too suggestive’ (actually those who saw it, it was ‘Bath & More’ sort of a thing) was replaced with a saner, tuned-to-Ramadan ad of the model ‘wearing’ the advertised ‘Red Towel’ as a dupatta. In the previous encarnation, the towel was thrown on the floor with the two pair of legs shown in an okay-we-got-it fashion.

Please move out of Clifton and Defence buddies. There is interesting world outside in the larger Karachi as well.

I agree with Tariq Mustafa that all the bloggers highlight only DHA & clifton which is about 1/4 th of Karachi. They need to move out. there r many interesting areas like nazimabad , north nazimabad , gulsan , gulistan e jauhar , PECHs , & other coastal areas like naval colony , javed bahria , e.t.c.

Will appreciate any recommendations on how to get hold of it.
