45 days
the countdown for my last visit to karachi (in august) started around 150 days before touchdown. 150 days spent looking forward with lip-biting anticipation to the 33 that i would get to spend in the city i call home.
today, it’s 45 days to home. inshallah. 45 days to the distinct karachi ki smell that greets you as you approach the doors leading out of baggage claim. 45 days until i can pour over a //hardcopy// of DAWN while sipping on my morning cup of chai. 45 days until i come home to a karachi winter of foggy nights in shawls and kolapuris cracking warm peanut shells. 45 days until i see the much awaited underpass for the first time. this past month has been the hardest, most emotionally taxing time spent away from home. 8000 miles can make you feel pretty helpless. it’s 45 days until i come home to the changed, awakened pakistan that i keep reading and hearing about.
can’t wait to be a part of that.
welcome aboard! and InshAllah, karachi will not disappoint :)
