Is Karachi wimpish?

Just a coupla days ago, an acquaintance with whom I am discussing the plan for a group adventure outing in Balochistan remarked: “I have realized that Karachi people are not that adventurous.”

I am a rather frequent family adventure traveler to the Northern areas. His remark confirmed some of my own observation. I just got this little hope though that this is because Karachiites don’t have as much access to adventurous areas as people in the northern part of the country. The north being the north – with hills, mountains, deserts, and rivers – offers more variety and opportunity for adventure. The theory is, if given a proper plan and a chance, Karachiites will jump on to it.

But could Karachi people actually plop down and sink deeper in to the couch at the invitation for an adventurous outing?

Is Karachi actually, really, sadly, WIMPISH!?

Karachiites are not wimpish. They are just bogged down by corruption, lawlessness, inflation and poor quality of life.

Tourism is a luxury and Karachiites want basic needs of life.

we are not wimpish its just that we dont have
enough resources, i mean these hobbies are kinda expensive
like enjoying a water scooter or doing some sky diving stunts is not accessible for middle class of karachi that makes more than 70% of karachi’s population

Most of the people I know have not even ‘discovered’ what we already have in Karachi. Hardly anyone has explored the great mangrove forests of Indus delta…few of the largest in the world and home to a zillion species of crabs and other marine life. People dont go fishing or crabbing. People dont go explore the Churna Island (Coral Reef) or the Oyster Rocks or other small islands around our coast. There are plenty of historic places and buildings to go see.

Ya … I think Karachiites have really gone WIMPISH!!

Outdoor hobbies aren’t necessarily expensive – it depends on what you are doing. Hiking only needs a pair of shoes and willpower.

well karachites are not wimpish…well if some body think tht only going to hilly stations means adventure then i must say he is naive…adventure has nothting to do with mountains and things like tht adventure is something inside human nature and i beleive karachites far exceeds in adventure from rest of the country…10 yrs back karachi has seen worst of the security problems living in those condition it self was an adnventure i stil remeber tht my cousins from punjab dont used to visit us and say tht ..Karachi kay halat kharab hain…so this clearly shows they were the water sports and other kids of things r adventure which karachites enjoy..swimming and doing picnic and night parties on dangerous yet beautiful hawkesbay it self is adventure…and above all every pakistani know tht after the earth quake which city far exceeds from rest of pakistan in helping and working in tht devasted mountains which was again an adventure…it was the Karachites…..we love you karachi

i would like to add one thing as some body said tht karachites are not wimpish infact they dont have enough resources as this kind of activity needs money .man u must be kidding karachites Lack resources!!!!…just want to tell u something that..i have read this in Jang newspaper.. the editor wrote that according to a survey among the south east asian metroploitan cities Karachi has the most money mean tht most financially sound city..well this was obvious after the earth quake……this is really a blessing of God tht it has given Pakistan this a lucky city ..before 1947 karachi was nothing but after 1947 it has changed like ne thing ..this shows tht God has blessed this city with all the resouces… we love you Karachi

Wow … Doctor sahab … no one said nothing about not loving the city … its a gem of a place… no doubt .. but what we are talking here is not about liking or disliking Karachi .. or its people … but as jammie got it right … people have gone cityish, specially the middle, upper middle or upper class… I still see a lot of suzuki carries filled with people from places like Landhi Orangi and places like these going to beaches or safari park and having blast of a time or our Makrani mates enjoying a donkey cart race on the roads … but rest of Karachi, either because of super big ego problems or some unknown reason never enjoy these simple pleasures in life.
No offence to Karachi .. no offence to Karachiites .. just an observation.

    Proud Karachi wala

Well the thing is i know tht we are not discussing of loving or not loving karachi..i wrote tht i love karachi just because i love it .it doesnt matter we r discussing it or not …wen u love some one you need to express this and i thing its not bad in expressing one love to his/her city at any form…now regarding the other stuff u see there is a maslows hierarchy theory (management student must know tht) as u climb up the ladder in your society ur needs changes and then finally one reach self actulizations… now u see karachites are going up the ladder our Quality of living has improved (due to leasing and other stuff) as one moves up the society class his need his happines his sorrows everything change…it is not b/c of ego or ne thing it just happen our childhood our dream is to have a Cycle but as our age progresses (Plus our academic carrer) our choices becomes differnt ur horizon increases ur need ur desires and attitude towards things changes…so i beleive karachite are not egoistic they are mature minded ppl and truly proffesional, if somebody believe they r egoistic then i think he/she has not visited PAF museum after earth quake… beacuse wht i have seen there tht every one whether from high class or low class working together if we karachite has some ego problem then wht was tht….WE LOVE U KARACHI

Karachi is not wimpimpish, Its not that people of karachi don’t like to enjoy the outdoors, its because of all the tensions going around the city. But majority of people don’t care about all these tensions, they just want to go out with there family and friends & want to enjoy. And secondly, there not much of resources in karachi to enjoy except seaview, and parks of what is left of them.

well i think tht its funny tht u guys dont know the placed in karachi..if some ppl dont know abt the doesnt means tht karachi has got no places to no other city in pakistan has to offer which karachi offer at the most wht other cities offer is PARKS and MOUNTAINS…wht are there picnic like…sitting in garden having food thts it….i have seen half of the pakistan on road trust me no other city offer wht karachi has to offer ..infact ppl of other cities are really impressed with karachi and they want to shift to karachi ..tht is y karachi population is growing like ne thing..if karachi is not secure then why ppl are migaring from other cities to karachi …because this city offer them many things which other city cant…in the end i want to request all the young karachites tht we shuld not be pessimistic like some ppl in karachi ..mostly the old ppl(not all) we shuld be optimistic and shuld love this city from our heart and we shuld try to change this city image by telling ppl tht security problem was in past…. now this is the best city to live u all know tht KARACHI was famous as aroosul bilaad karachi ( means dulhan)…it is we the youth who can change this city image…if some one say something rong abt our city we shuld stop him and tel him abt karachi positive points rather than saying keh karachi has nothing to offer and tht…karachi has security problem…if somebody is saying this he is naieve…now situation has changed once agaian karachi is now back to normal same old karachi soota nahi tha..go out late night and see it for urself…and plzzzzzzzzzzzzz say good word abt ur city and defend it rather than listening to other ppl stupid comment abt karachi…every city has negative point but the youth of those cities defend there city…we have to defend this city it has given us so much..if u dont think so then my advice to u is plzzzzz spend atleast 1 year or 6 month in any other city of Pakistan then u will got to know abt the value of this city.

Karachi people are wimpish because they are mohajir bhaiyas and everyone knows about them. Especially the pathans ;-).

  16. Dubai Crawler (unregistered) on January 7th, 2006 @ 5:41 pm

    Array Panjabi4life,

dont you have any other thing to do in life? Yes, you are right we have lots of Mahajir (Bhiyas) in City, but they are adventurous as any other guy (from any other ethenic regios) standing next to them.

For everybody’s information, Karachi submits 73% of total revenue of Pakistan. And most of it is given in charity to your province (Punjab), thats why they dont get much time nor money to go on adventures, we Karachite prefer to do social work (e.g. earth quake relief).

As far as your comments about Pathans are concerned, my friend they are very very nice people, atleast they dont poke their noses in other people’s business, very unlike your prople.

    We Karachites, beleive in one thing and that is;

so bro, chill out somewhere else and watch some Panjabi movie, where Anjuman is have an ADVENTURE of her life time with Sultan Rahi, in some sugar cane feild. go spend Rs. 5 and watch it in some crampy place, as you dont have a place like Royal Rodayle Club.

    Dear Punjabi bhai sahib/behen sahiba:

Just hang around in here, and perhaps you may see fellow humans otherwise. Don’t worry about your prejudices; you are in the good company of 99.9% of all humanity who survive on the delusion that they are superior than others. As long as man has no purpose in life, he looks for excuses to show he’s worth being alive afterall. Ah, the delusion of superiority, when taqwa is what distinguishes humans!

Until you find meaning in your life…

well what you guys are talking about is itself wimpish but nevertheless entertaing so i could not stop myself from replying. The thing is karachi is lively. So that in itself is an adventure.

Also people talk of a Royal movie showing club. I must say, regardless of its level, by no means can a movie club be a place for adventure. Brother, we are talking bout real adventure not watching some indian masala.

anyone ever wonder what we as muslims should consider adventure? I will end myself abruptly, will make sure that I make a clear point in next messages.
