How much does an iPod cost? Anyone know? I seriously need a price so I can start saving up.

  3. misha (unregistered) on January 28th, 2006 @ 8:13 pm

Indeed, and they’re selling for a good price too, from what I hear, unlike most of the rip off places in clifton.

LUVIPOD: You can check out the apple website for costs. They translate to almost the same here with the retail apple store now opening up.

LUVIPOD : you can chk this out

The price of the products will be almost equal here if u convert them to rupees with an Apple retail store opening here in Karachi.

What was Apple thinking? I can see it now: Executive no. 1: “Where can we dump all our defective hardware? Not to mention the radioactive stuff?” Executive no. 2: “Let’s just dump it all in Karachi.”
Executive no. 1: “You’ve hit the jackpot!”

Apple has also started Offical shop at Zamzama.

Shop location…..its in 4th (or 5th) Zamzama Commercial lane….i called this lane “car lane” jiss lane maain sabh car-modification ke shops hain……

They have everything in display too….. so you can actually use before buying.

Its on Khaddi side….. first shops of this lane (on main road) are “Car Singhar” and “United Mobiles”.

On Appie Site 30GB Video iPod is for $299.

    $299 * Rs. 59.8 = Rs. 17880 (Make it 18K)

They are selling it for 20K ….. So they are charging around 10% more, which I dont think is too much.

Similarly 30-inch Cinema HD Display is for $2499

    $2499 * 59.8 = Rs. 149,440 (Make it 150K)

They are selling same for 168K ….. so they are charing only 8% more on this LCD.

Marsons is currently the only Apple distributor in Karachi. What is the source of this information Kirna?

That looks like a death threat to me. And if you carry it out, and the police come to investigate, you can just call the Minister for Religious Affairs who’ll call the Home Minister and the whole thing would be called off.

Or more likely, the police arrive twenty hours later, register a meaningless FIR like a million others, it becomes a five-line column in some newspaper, and that’s it. More reason to say…

    Fuck Karachi!!!!

well atleast u wud be gone by the time police arrive…..on the other side of the note seriosuly dude…why do u have so much problem with Karachi? who r u and what does Karachi have done to you, i m curious now and infact a lot of KMB readers wud be curious too now why do u hate this city so much????

People, people, by giving this attention deprived young man attention you are doing exactly what he wants. Ignore him, he’ll get bored and go away eventually. And honestly, are ridiculously immature comments like the ones he’s been posting even worth replying to?

Now, on to the topic at hand. Buying retail in the US adds about $20 tax, give or take a bit so the 20k price is pretty much standard, not at all too much. I got mine retail from the US with a friend’s discount and it still amounted to about 19.5K with the wall charger sold seperately but then I also had to arrange for my own transport to get it back into Pakiland so 20k is a pretty good deal all around.

Additionally, some cracks and tips for newbies looking to get the most out of their ‘pods:

Marsons is the official dealer….and i think they are gonna be workin on a fairly limited market..also considering that Apple is waayyyyy low mainenence!!!

That’s good news that they are opening ipod selling store. Over here ipod is 199$.
So much are they goin to sell.
What is the problem with that guy. Why is he so mad with karachi. He’s got some serious issues, or maybe he just plain JACK*** (JERK)

15-18K for mp3 player is too much if you live in Karachi I guess or the currency scale has gone very low. In Spring 2004 I paid just 150$ for ipod accessories and I swear some of them like leather case I could get in Karachi in 200-300 Rs.

If you really want ipod do let me know :-) I get 12% off at any Apple product plus free shipping and no tax. Try Ebay , you could get much cheaper there.

Apple plan is very clear, they are not looking for market for their ipod , they are working on OS X at x86 platform and within a year we would have dual booting system of vista and OS X. Looking for new market for their OS I guess , how many ipods they could sell in Karachi and those who could afford it have already got it from abroad I guess.

Oh really!? Coz I’d love to bypass those Marsons guys! I mean I have to get stuff from Islamabad (Pak Mac Links), because it’s so much cheaper than Marsons!

Anyways, how authentic is this news? What’re your sources? Coz I just tried confirming this news from, MacBytes, MacRumors, CNet News, but I can’t find a trace. Usually the media is drooling to catch onto an Apple Store announcement!

But man if this is true!!! It’s gonna be one hell of a store man!

  17. Kirna (unregistered) on January 29th, 2006 @ 3:05 am

the news is pretty aunthentic as the person who’s opening it is someone i know. he also is the owner of fiction, the clothing chain.

  18. shobz (unregistered) on January 29th, 2006 @ 4:29 am

i am sure that would be loads of fun. sorry if i am cynical here but i doubt its gonna work out unless they give out a 80 percent discount on everything. their mp3 players might sell but then i am not so sure about their one is gonna pay so much for something expensive.

  19. Absar (unregistered) on January 29th, 2006 @ 6:16 pm

heOh I will! I already do! Anyways, then it’s not atually an ‘Apple Store’, it’s a franchise – ‘Apple Store’ is a term for stores OWNED and run by Apple itself, and not a third party. But still it’s gonna be fun, having more choice on where to buy my stuff! :D Kirna, tell your someone I’m gonna be the first person at his shop on the 12th! :D Wat time does it open? :P Any opening-day discounts planned?

The Apple shop on Zamzama is an Authorized Apple Reseller and is owned and run by the Bawany family. The number for the shop is 587-3224. One of the salespeople is Asif and the owner is Mr. Illyas Bawany who is usually there after 4:00 pm.

Marsons WAS the only Authorized Distributor but Apple Asia (Singapore) is focusing heavily on the South Asia market so expect to see a number of retail outlets opening up, including the above-mentioned one on Ittehad. None of these shops are “Apple Stores”, like the official, Apple-owned retail stores across the US, London, and the one in Japan. It’ll be a long time before Steve Jobs decides to open up a REAL APPLE STORE in these parts. Apple’s retail presence in Pakistan will be via shops set up by Resellers and Partners, with support from Apple Asia.

Where have you guys been? There have been Apple Authorized Resellers in Pakistan for years. Hell, I remember one since the late 80s! Currently, theres one in Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad, all authorized resellers. I myself have bought countless Macs from them.
