Where in Karachi does a cell phone show this??
I was roaming around the city and its outskirts yesterday, when my brothers cell phone started showing this network availibility on the screen. When i checked mine, it too was out out of network signals for Ufone.
Can you guess the locations?
PS…this is not one of the standard “where in karachi” quizzes..!
thats an Antique fone , put it in museum!! and buy a better fone! (j/k)
hahha
screen shows its from India-Airtel service…but one can set any label on screen?
I was seimens user in 2000(C35),but I am big nokia fan now
Well, this is my youngest brothers phone and it is a c55.
Additionally, this is an authentic network display, nothing planted on the screen.
Bhai… your phone is probably made for the Indian market (also sold in Dubai and brought to Karachi by “khappiya”). Check for preset Indian tune ringtones inside…
When you were on the outskirts of Karachi with sporadic coverage, you moved between cell towers and the “tower ID” changed. The phone, since it was made for the Indian market, mistook the weak signal for something more familiar… a signal from Airtel.
Thats my theory anyway.
:D!!!!
What area of Karachi was this? And could you give your service provider details — I have been looking for ways to call my friends and relatives in India from a cellphone and it looks like you just found a way. This is awesome — Did you try calling an Indian number?
SARAH! stop it! gives me the creeps……
stop what, I am just smiling. DID i DO something WRONG !!!!:7 :D !!!
Sarah, you just pissed him off :D
pissed him off ????ON WHAT !!!
by making faces like (“:D”) :>
@Danny:how miser you are,are you a memon or some banya?:D,call rates are so cheap now and you are seeking a difficult approach to talk your relatives.I bet you havea GF in India and you dont wana spend so much money on her:d
Alright….
this phone was bought at the Siemens outlet in Saddar…so i doubt the Khepiya theory…and additionally, it woudl need an airtel sim to register on their network.
For the record, any cell phone will show the closest available network….being made for india or any other country really doesnt matter.
lolz @ adnan
Tell me the location please….
Not Banya/Mamon but i m With Danny…..
Most people don’t know calling India is 2.5-4.5 times costly than USA
Yeah its costly when you are going to call your Tamil girlfriend :>
I have relatives in India and rates are quite reasonable, use calling cards.
After so many days I read metro blogs today and I saw 2 things which defy Common sense One was Minto’s Upside down Tube with over flowing Tooth past, and the second one is This AirTel Display…..
By the way did you try making some phone calls, may be we can talk free Via Airtel :)
Well I know the problem that u faced, its not unusual, infact its the biggest problem faced by the Mobile Operator Companies the World over, cuz due to these network clashes many people cheat by makin long calls with no records in any network,i saw this thing happening a lot in Africa and Middle East.So don worry its nothing unusual…
And yes Sarah,i think U donno hw costly its is to call India,I have to call my sweet heart, she is in Mumbai, but still inspite of knowing the costs I do call her as much as possible…
hey inspirex, maybe u were next to d arabian sea n d signal came from gujarat…!! thats cool
u must b having international roaming acitavted !!thats y it must hav workd
n danny, if u try to call using this tech, it wud b only more expensive i guess coz u’d be charged internation roaming charges :d
hi people !!m sumit here from mumbai…i’v been reading this blog 4 long..just thot bout commmenting today :)
Hmm. Possibly thats why it didnt register with the network. I needed to have international roaming enabled.
And yeah, i was at the edge of karachi, right next to the arabian sea.
And a very warm welcome from karachi to our neighbours. Feel free to drop in more often!
