Binging at Super highway…
Last night, I took a drive down to Super Highway with the family. On the agenda of course, was food.
While driving by on, we stopped as Sajjads, since I had been there before, I recommeded that place to the other members of the family too. The best part about all the highway restaurants is the sitting on the takht with gao takiyas.
Back to food. While browsing through the menu, we decided to do something different. Every other time id been to any highway restaurant, it was for mutton karahi. This time, we decided to keep it all barbeque.
Heres my list of recommendations:
Chicken Shishtoa: Its more like afghani tikka, except that its made entirely of black pepper. The spice, flavour and taste was just awesome.
Reshmi Kababs:Though these are a tad bit spicy as compared to the standard reshmi or chicken seekh kababs we get in the city, but these taste great too.
Chicken Malai Boti: Also a great dish. chicken marinated in spices and cream and then grilled over charcoal. has its own unique juicy flavour as you bite into it.
Green Tikkas: Great stuff. Chicken tikkas marinated in a blend of all green spices and tenderized to the core.
Tandoori Parathas: Tandoori Parathas are just great, you can eat them with any of the dishes above, or just on their own. They taste great, smell great and are NOT for the calorie conscious.
While you’re there, you can also try the pan. It was decent, but the Doodh Patti chai was smashing.
So all in all, the highway experience was great. I was so full, I skipped breakfast this morning!
Eat away!
amen to that!
Ispirex..you should have posted pics of each of these dishes..ok lemme sign off I am droolling over my keyboard.
pics ki kia zaroorat? he has explained them SO well that its making my mouth water..
so u ate CHICKEN???
Dude, that sounds amazing! Do you recommend eating there to a person coming to visit Karachi in a few weeks, from California?! I wish I could eat all that, but always refrain from doing so … afraid of getting super sick! :(
I also recommend their MUTTON NAMKEEN BOTI.. simply delicious.. A word of caution though, the prices are on a bit higher side, not what one wud xpect at a highway restaurant.. but all in all its worth every penny.
hehe…
thanks all..
Tee: yes; and ive been eating chicken for quite a while actually…
Hena: ofcourse…go there, and eat. thats it.
Detox: Many thanks. Ill make sure i try it the next time im there..:)
How long does it take to drive there from Defence/Clifton? How does one get there: just straight up Shara-e-Faisal towards Malir/Makli?
you mean “SUPPER” Highway !!!
forgot the openning and closing time…is it a late night place….?
Sajjad Rocks!!Much better than Makkah and Al-Habib.
Reshmi kebab was my hot favorite dish at SAJJAD.One should try his best to make a visit of Super Highway.
BTW imtiaz, sohrab goth per traffic mey phasay?:>
There goes my diet!!
Finally a good post on KMB after a long time. Food is my favourite topic.
Sajjad Restaurant has been my favourite on the Super Highway. One weird fact about Sajjar Res. is that people call it Al-Sajjad (just because other restaurants start with Al).
Talking about Sajjad Restaurant, how can one forget about ‘Chicken Dhaaka’. Its the best thing that Sajjad has to offer.
And the Tandoori Layered Parathas are awesome, but very heavy. I love eating them with chaye.
Everyone should visit this place.
Inspirex……… Man what the &%%%.. I just love that stuff….. My God I can’t wait to go there…. Thanks for such a nice mouth-watering post after a long time…
and Green tea after heavy meal.Ummmmmmmmmm…..
Adnan, KMB is the only site you read?
Zain,no i have made tools for myself which makes easier for me to keep an eye on updates.
Danny: Its a less than 40 mins drive from defence/clifton, provided you dont get stuck in traffic jams. Just drive straight up Shahrah e faisal and take the left turn on Rashid Minhas Road (thats after the PAF base) and keep going straight till you get to a VERY large intersection. (The intersection is under heavy construction and is known as Sohrab Goth). Take a right there, keep going straight! Thats it!
Wasiq: Sajjads is 24 hour place (or so they advertise) but the best time is night, preferably after 9.30/10.
Adnan Siddiqui: hehe….nope! it took me under 5 mins to get through the Sohrab Goth intersection!
Directions: Everybody whos anybody knows Super Highway in Karachi right. Its located on the Super Highway. How to reach the Super Highway?
1. Drive towards the Airport on the Shahra-e-Faisal Rd.
2. Take a left to the Rashid Minhas road opposite the Drigh Station.
3. Head Straight towards Millenium mall, and pass through Nipa Roundabout, and then Gulshan Roundabout (theres no chowrangi there anymore though) .. and then keep going and you will reach Sohrab Got.
4. Take a right from the Sohrab Got to get on the Super Highway …
I am sorry if that wasnt really the most accurate of directions. Happy Eating!
yummy! On the highway, i find that the most interesting this is not only the food but the whole atmosphere that’s been created there!
Now im dying to try out sajjad’s too!!
