This is not a branch!

Call me old fashioned, but when i see a storefront with the name of the bank at the top, i assume its a branch of the bank. However, Citibank in pakistan seems to feel different…

This is the front of thier ‘premises’ on tariq road, just opposite EBH. The sign below Citibank reads “This is not a branch of Citibank“. Its not just here, but have cropped up in quite many places, all reading the same sign.

My question.. what is it then? Convenient torture chambers for people who dont pay their credit card bill on time??

P.S. For those who dont know, Citibank has started consumer banking services in Karachi as well, in addition to loans and credit cards.

    they are drop box kiosks. the first was next to pizza hut at clifton which was later made into a branch. but these are simple kiosks for people to not have to go hunting for a drop box, while Citi can pick up their envelopes from their own “collection centre”.

    sorry for the banking speak.

    @Anathema:

    If that is correct, that seems to be an incredible waste of money — to rent an entire premises just for customers to drop off payments doesn’t seem to make much business sense. It would work out to be cheaper for them to enclose a TCS prepaid envelope with each bill allowing customers to TCS (or courier) the bill to Citibank.

    It could/should have an ATM as well so that one doesn’t have to drive around when cash is short. I have noticed askari bank putting up a kiosk atm in the last exhibition at expo.

    There was another such Not-A-Citibank-Branch near Bait-ul-Mukarram which has now transformed to a fully functional Citibank Branch.

    I am not sure, but I think (and so I have heard) that these Not-A-Branch are contracted private companies who are used to market the Loans/Car Financing products of the bank and they get a commission from the bank on the amount of sales.

    i guess its a mini branch? u get to do all without having to wait in lines and all! :P
    smart thing really! instead of opening a 100 branches or sth they are using these to divert branch traffic and get away with most of the common services. saves time and is convenient too.

    I went to use ATM at one of “NOT A BRANCH” location of citibank,curious to find out what this place was all about. I experienced a different bankinq perspective all together. I was briefed about number of services offered by this “NOT A BRANCH” of Citibank including a complete range of services such as credit cards, personal loans, car loans etc. It turned out to be a financial solution provider rather than a torture cell for people who dont pay up!
