Taking the inside… outside! A major shift planned for karachi

I heard about this from two sources in the same day…. Following the relocation of the Sabzi Mandi to outside the current city limits, the govt. has decided to shift other major markets and govt. functions to outside the city as well near the northern bypass. The same day, i managed to score a map (for a new proposed housing society) which mentions the locations of these new places as well. Included in the shift will be Joriya bazaar (and other wholesale markets such as Empress market) and the Civic Cente. Now im not really sure, but this map could be pointing to the new dubai based investment i mentioned earlier?

The map details the new facilities in the area such as a diplomatic enclave, another airport, a 5 star hotel, an olympic stadium, Jurist enclave, filteration / desalination / recycling plant, an education complex and a banking complex.

I doubt its the Dubai investment. For more info on that one, I put down a link to the SSC Forums in your last post, check out some of the discussion there.

Also, if you could please email me a high resolution version of this map, I would be very appreciative. Alternatively, post a high res. copy on flickr.com or on the SSC forums.

    VERY GOOD FIND!!

Also, it would be good if joria bazar etc and the Empress Market wholesale market is shifted away from the city because then we would be able to reclaim and restore the historic city district to convert it to a beautiful, clean-buisness, protected zone. Take a look at this picture that shows how clean and stately Empress Market used to be when it had just been constructed:

Real estate mafia get to work :) Mansoor thanks for sharing this I really hope that DIPLOMATIC enclave gets thrown in there as well – I wont mind giving them a private airport to boot – at least it keeps the mess away from the Marriott area and etc

I think we should be thiking about making new cities. Rather than upgrading the current ones. Its only going to attract more people from all over Pakistan.
