How were we?
Now that the season’s first rains have come and gone and the city is slowly struggling back to its feet, we’ve had time to take stock of the last week or so. What I have is a question for everyone: What level of concern did ordinary Karachites demonstrate for each other during the crisis?
My personal experience, limited to Clifton and Defence, has ranged from neutral to negative. While a few drivers callously splashed hapless pedestrians, I also noticed most didn’t resort to their horns and were relatively accommodating of others circumventing potholes and blind spots.
Traffic, vendors, neighbours, strangers, etc.: Were Karachites good Samaritans or cold urbanites?
I hope sainity prevails.
truly praying for karachi though.
from all the talks i have had , neutral to negative sounds about right.
Well I ll disagree on neutral to negative it was more like +7 to -3 on a scale of -10 to +10 . There were arguments and somewhat heated exchanges but not many even where accidents happened. Fights didnt break out in general. People did offer rides to those who ran out of fuel or gas. At least twice I ve heard Taxi drivers refused fares and then charged a meagre amount on insistence to take people to petrol stations. People were generally tolerant of each other. I d say that was a good show overall.
Apathetic.
i got overcharged by numerous taxi drivers.
@huma unn k kamanay ka season hai :P
i was cool, and i tried my best to stay out of reach…..away from the madness……rate me!
overall it was a good experience… horn blaring was quite low.. even in jams lasting for an hour (i was caught in one of them)… as for taxis… they have their seasons too ;) just like any other.
