Telefun’s Ignorance Hurts !

According to a story covered by Munsoor today, authorities in Karachi have ordered the removal of the Billboards featuring Amitabh Bachan in front of a Pakistani Flag On the other hand BBC attached a headline to it reading
” Bachchan poster banned in Karachi “.

According to Hindustantimes Abdul Qadir, Telefun’s Marketing manager has said they used Mr.Bachan’s picture because of the similar format of the Quiz. His statement makes it clear that Mr. Bachan was used as a symbolic representation for a quiz, Mr.Bachan could only be associated with the independence day of Pakistan as either an Ambassador of peace or as an artist wishing us a happy day, but that would require Telefun to hire Amitabh, so to make things easier for them they played plain Stupid. They simply placed Amitabh’s Image on a pedestal where it didn’t belong.

The add campaign has made headlines all over the world specially in India, with a negative impact on the delicate relationship between both the countries. The campaign is a disgrace to Pakistan. It is an irresponsible stunt executed at a time when the relations between India and Pakistan are going through tough times and for the very day every which Pakistan celebrates with a high patriotic sprit .

Telefun’s Marketing manager admits ” It Was a Mistake” and promises to disassociate Mr. Bachan’s Image form the campaign but can this alone, repair the damage ?

Bollywood is present in Pakistani homes/lives 365 days of the year. Then why can we not celeberate 14 August with Amitabh. What really ticks me off is the ARMY/AIRFORCE/NAVY OFFICERS MESS TV rooms. They are running mostly indian music channels and Indian films. Young or old armed forces officers( who are tranined and paid to protect us from india mostly) love Bollywood.
Our goverment which is effectively run by Army should clean its house first before teaching patriotism to the nation.

Yes it’s a marketing ploy and nothing else. Even if they remove the billboard now, Telefun have accomplished what they set out to do maximum exposure with the minimum budget. Big B hasn’t taken any position in Indo-Pak conflict one way or another. I bet we wouldn’t hear this much fuss if it was SRK (an Indian Muslim actor) instead of big B.

@Yo Yo, you have said it nicely. Hypocrisy at its best.

Theres nothing wrong with appreciating India or having bhai chara with your Indian friends, but theres something known as too close for comfort. Dont go so blindly into being Indianized that you lose your own selves.

I hundred percent agree… seems like we are blindly following these so called “friends” of ours.. i don’t buy it for one bit… we are losing our culture day by day to these people… we need to wake up.. dammit..!!

i think we are not ready to associate Amitab with out independence celebrations. its not like he sent us the greetings himself.

Imran is absolutely right. the indian movies and never ending soaps are really messing up the culture. I have actually met some kids who had a were unable to “KH” sound. they pronounced the word “Khushi” with the “K” sound and not the “Kh”.

apparently they watch too much tv.
