a new kind of suicidal attempt

things have come to the stage that news of a suicide bomber doesn’t cause you to raise even an eyebrow. its so totally normal. these characters are normally expected to use a car of some sort to ram into a wall or something.

however, when you hear of someone taking over a locomotive and preparing to ram it into a passenger train, well, thats interesting. it also speaks volumes that our security is so lax that an allegedly mentally retarded geriatric could actually have done this if he hadn’t been diverted in the nick of time.

amazing. only in karachi, eh?

it would’ve been funny if it wasnt so tragic.
however, there were two things i was almost happy to hear..

number 1… no islamic extremist was involved.
number 2… no pakistani national was involved

i know it may be wrong for me to point it out.. but in a world where most terror acts are attributed to the above two, its refreshing to see something which is not.

Well he must’ve seen the tv show called “World’s Scariest Police Chases II” on AXN as they once showed a dude high on weed or something steal an Army tank in USA and wrecking half of San Diego before geting killed by cops. ;D

So lets blame the media for giving them “ideas”.

I agree with number 1 but as far as number 2 goes, the guy is a pakistani.

the incident didnt start in karachi but near hyderabad.

@mansoor “number 2… no pakistani national was involved” …. well he is a pakistani…. mentally retarded yea but surely that does’nt strip him of his pakistani nationality….
secondly its really funning that he knew how to ‘drive’ a train …. maybe he was an ex railway employee unhappy with his retired life…..he was busted too early otherwise Bush administration would have love to label him an alqaeda terrorist and create a terror alert around the world had their been a standoff between him and the authorities….

I just wanted to point out that mentally retarded may not be the right term. Retarded means delayed and applies to people whose mental development is slow, or stops at a certain point. I think the correct term would be mentally handicapped.

actually the more politically correct term used nowadays is mentally challenged

Glad it was stopped in time otherwise we would ve found out that alqaeda had a secret railway line that also passed under oceans to the white house and they were going to ram the train after stopping in kashmir or n.pakistan to load it with explosives.
Speaking of terrorists the a.s.f or airport security force is not allowing airline captains to carry toileteries or even a cig lighter on the aircraft. Does flight crew need a lighter to bring down an aircraft?

What a horrific thing for a family. I’m glad everthing workout and no harm done to this man. I hope this incidence make someone to give him proper medication and care which Madan needed.

    no pakistani national was involved

I know Mansoor what are you talking about.

Initially some channels reported that Guy is from Hyderabad, India. No wonder that’s why it make International news as some joker media person thought he is an Indian since he is a Hindu. Still some newspapers reporting he is an Indian.

  12. mansoor (unregistered) on August 25th, 2006 @ 11:00 am

they’ve changed the story. initially, the picture there stated “Madan Lal, an indian national”. Its to that which i responded….

Thanks mariam for pointing out that it was due to an error.

He is a Pakistani of Indian decent, hence the name Madan Lal. Also he is from Hyderabad in Pakistan and NOT from Hyderabad in India. He stole the engine from Railway’s Marshaling Yard in Pipri and drove it some 35 Kms to Karachi before being derailed by Railway’s Police to avoid a collision with “Baba Farid Express” passenger train.

Over half of Karachi (and probably Sindh) is “Pakistani of Indian descent” — I like that term — I’ll start using that now instead of just saying I’m Indian. (always troubles my friends when I say that as they insist I’m Pakistani) :)

Xill-e-Ilahi , NO NOT only in Karachi…i suggest we dont use these words here…its too sensitive a thing, and these blogs are read by everyone.
things like that happen in US also, remember the shooting incidents. last case i remembered was a woman who was fired by post office, or i guess not even fired, she was just pissed off, and she killed seven people and then killed her self, truely, not a muslim, not a pakistani.
some reports of school shootings are also there.

while i agree that mentally challenged is the more politically correct term – i fail to see the reason for your aggravation at my suggesting that things like this only happen here. by drawing a parallel with the disgrantled us mail employee, you’re assuming that this madan lal dude was a former pakistan railways employee. secondly, its not really a valid parallel. in your example you have a deranged person picking up a gun and killing people – something that you or i could do too – it doesn’t take a rocket scintist to figure out how to pull a trigger. in this case though, we have an arrested perpetrator – caught in the act no less – doing something which you and i presumably cannot do, i.e. driving a train. and to top on another improbability, he is allegedly not on the same plane, mentally, as we are if you follow my gist.

you have to admit, the flavour is more shafqat cheema than sean connery.

and how that translates into “too sensitive a thing, and these blogs are read by everyone.” is beyond me. if the propoganda machines want to call a loonie an evil genius they will. that doesn’t mean we should say, “oh look, here’s a lonnie…. they had one in the states a few weeks back”.

you think the “fox tv” types will quote that part of your comment?

i think telling it as it is, is a better policy than not telling it at all. truth will (eventually) prevail.
