First it was amitabh….

to grace the advertisment world here in Karachi with the infamous telefun “Kaun Banega Crorepati” campaign, and it seems like he has proved that indian actors endorsing stuff in Pakistan is an effective technique. And why would it be? Most of us have grown up watching the indian cinema more than our local programming/movies. The next actor, now gracing billboards all over the city, thanks to SonyEricsson, is Arshad Warsi! (btw.. who’s that next to him? cant rem her name or anything for that matter).

Who’s next to be featured in Karachi by the ad world?

    I am back in karachi, beleive me nothing bothered me not the heat, the load shedding, the roads, the problems, because I know these are cureables and will be better sooner or later.

    What bothered me the most is the evident and raging impatience among the public, running over a red light is now a norm, i was here last year but it was not as bad as its today, motorcyclists are the most common culprits.

    The next thing which i have noticed is the Indianization of the country. All radio channels, TV programs, public sentiment I have noticed an erradication of Pakistaniat all together.

    Indira Gandhi rightly said after the 1971 war;
    “today we have drowned the 2 nation theory right in the midst of the Bay of Bengal”

    May ALLAH help help us all. Because this is incureable.

    According to Mush its anti-Talibanization.Same president couldn’t say a word in reply when Armitage warned
    him and in reaction Mush said in girlish style “I think it was a very rude remark .

    Well… sonia gandhi had said earlier that they have won the “cultural war”. :) …wont say that she was too wrong…. although at that time … a lot of hue and cry had been raised after her comment…

    Arshad Warsi, not Wasti. :)

    Foriegn actors, musicians and so on being used in Pakistani campaigns are inevitable.

    Ooh!! he is an Indian, I seriously thought he was a Pakistani Actor.

    As for the Indianization: Our Local Channels put a ban on Indian channels because they knew they will not be able to compete with India. There is a lot of talent in Pakistan and we can surely do a lot better but there are a few things we keep forgetting
    One: Art can’t be commercialized,
    Two: Thinking out of the box takes courage but it works,
    Three: copying other may look like a shortcut to success but its actually a shortcut to a downfall, and
    Finally: respecting those who have art not those who have art related background will provide us the required talent.
    Our Producers want to get rich in two days without spending a dime, but sadly art doesn’t work like this.

    Something I would like to add that artist cant be bound to the borders, I respect both the artists (intellectuals, writers and Film makers, performers painters Ect.) of India and Pakistan equally, and by using the word artists I don’t intend refer to the commercialists who pose them selves as artists.

    Neglecting gems like Dr.Anwar Sajjad,Nurulhuda Shah,Haseena moin and Azghar Nadeem and promoting idiots like Humayoun Saeed will not produce anything good.

    one final rub of salt in the wounds.. before we move on;

    Dear Adnan
    yes… post kargil war, first it was just the news channles, and an year later all pakistani channels.

    Dear Jamash.
    try to report the both sides of the story rather than just being immensely insipired by India… but you are not alone, most karachiites I have met are affected with this syndrome

    Haven’t been to Pakistan in ages, but what I have been expecting has been stated by one of our fellow posters: The Indianisation.

    I fear I might NOT be able to fit into the society, provided I have such frozen values I brought along from Pakistan half a decade ago!

    Can’t wait to go back, and check it out for myself :(

    After so many years of detachment from Karachi – reading these blogs makes me realise how much of a relationship I have to that place – I really am looking forward to it :) Theres no place like Karachi =) Miss it heaps!
