Sharia 101: A woman is worth half a man

So, I’m sitting in the firm, trying to kill time and turn to the Qanun-e-Shahadat (Law of Evidence) Act 1984. The Orwellian timing strikes me as I read s 17(2): in attesting a financial instrument, two women are the equal of one man. Introduced by our great misogynist, Zia, the law is applicable everywhere in Pakistan; however, since Karachi is where 70% of the country’s commerce takes place and where women are most likely to be involved in financial dealings, it probably hurts the women of this city the most. Forget glass ceilings; women need to get in the building first.

Talk about socio economic culture and human values covered, please

It doesn’t remove the idea of democracy. You are still seeing everything emotionally throgh your prespective. I unlike others didn’t mind that he came up a post which did shock others. I am all against because 1)it was irrelevent 2)he had no idea about the law 3) he failed to back his own statment and it happend not once but thrice on this forum.

Replace Cy with anyone else forInstance umar, I will have similar arguments for him as well. There is nothing against cy only.

    @ Adnan,

We all are individuals and we all write what we think, we agree and disagree, we express our thoughts and beliefs here, This BLOG is not to pick a fight and act being racist, it is to bring healthy discussion and some KNOWLEDGE Sharing, that sharing could be based on self experience and more exposure then any other individual which may give an idea to others for certain self improvment.

What is your objective by being here?

am here to learn and enlighten myself more, and share what may help others at any level.

and why did you skipped the Question? you are talking on behalf of MAJORITY ??

Who let you REPRESENT THE MAJORITY, based on what ??? So you want to be DICTATOR????? Imposing yourself on others for no rhyme & reason ?

    We all are individuals

    Yes i know

and we all write what we think

WRONG! This is not someone’s personal blog to discuss matters. this is a metroblog which is entirely different than personal blog if you understand. Metroblog is ALL about dicussing issues And postive things withh honesty which talk something the city rather ‘what i was feeling last night’. This is misuse of this forum things which are personal. What problem was discussed here? what was the solution given here? I didn’t find any clue. The thing only I learnt here tht few abused Cy, me and few others told that it was not zia’s handiwork and any such law is not for cy or any other minority. what kinda objective CY achieved from this post? what kinda thing others learnt. Please do make a bit search on different cities of metroblog and see how do they talk city issues. This was NOT a city issue, infact for me it was not an issue. his other posts like absence of food etc was also not an honest rant and such lunatic posts only give impression to outerworld that we belog to a community who torture minorities. Are we like that? if we ain’t then we need to oppose cy type elements everywhere.

What is your objective by being here?

to discuss things about KARACHI ONLY, not even Hyderabaad,I am not intrested what some author did last night in a hotel or resturant. This website is for serious blogging.

g on behalf of MAJORITY ??

I didn’t skip anything. Thats what I have learnt. From last 3/4 posts made by him, regular/old readers of this blog are not pleased. They could be wrong but after all they are regular and they does matter. They should be respected.

Who let you REPRESENT THE MAJORITY, based on what ???

I have been given option to read comments of others on this forum. Read the comments of others on Cy’s posts.

mposing yourself on others for no rhyme & reason ?mposing yourself on others for no rhyme & reason ?

It sees you don’t read others. Please spend sometime to gothru archieve of this blog.

@ Adnan and a few others: Why should Cy Leave…It is but a free country……every1 has a right to point out things that they believe are worth brining to attention…u don’t like his posts…DO NOT read them…DO NOT reply to them…..no one is forcing you to do so……

I’d rather not write on the actual post as it is but a Quranic law ….and has been covered well by a lot of people already……

  5. Adnan Siddiqi (unregistered) on October 12th, 2006 @ 12:50 pm

Manish who said he should quit country? I dont even mind he discuss anything on his blog.

as i said, there are certain rules which should be followed. I will be kicked out of any Technology forum if I start dicussing Karachi. Its not they hate freedom. Its all about following rules.

  6. Manish (unregistered) on October 12th, 2006 @ 1:26 pm

…..its a free country to do as he likes…..to blog or not to blog…..and as this post is related to women(as mentioned in the post CLEARLY) and we DO make up a ceratin percentage of the population of this city…..so me n a few others do think this post is related to KARACHI……rest, you are entitled to your own opnions…..

HERE, I do agree with A N. About TIME, we sure have plenty of time in HAND in Pakistan,

On the other hand we do have maids and servents (naukrani & naukers) to do what you Naturalised Americans are compelled to do by yourself.

The advantages we have, you naturalised aliens DETEST US Pakistanis because we are 1st grade thoroughbred citizens of a free country. By our choice we travel as we wish and we come back home with great respect and dignity.

We are not in Pakistan because of immigration lottery nor by H-1, F-1, I-20, B1 B2 blah blah blah, neither by taking an oath.

Alhamdo Lillah ! we are proud to be Pakistani, Pakistan Zindabad

Jamal Shamsi, your comment was the funniest I have read in a long time. You are either truly sarcastic or truly delusional :)
In either case, thanks for a good laugh.
