TCS – Inefficient?

Last week, my friend decides to send me a TCS. He sends it from Lahore on Friday and a delivery to Karachi is promised by Saturday, first half.

Remind me again, why do we use TCS?

Because we trust TCS.
Because TCS is supposed to be efficient.
Because TCS makes deliveries on time.

So all of Saturday passes by without a word from the TCS people. My friend gets annoyed and visits the TCS office in Lahore at night, the make tons of calls to no avail and finally tell him, “Sir, our delivery timings are now closed, we’re sorry”. I resign myself to not being able to receive the courier on Saturday and eagerly wait for Sunday.

Next day, no delivery.

TCS does not deliver regular couriers on Sundays. They only deliver couriers that have been paid extra for. But if they didn’t deliver the package on Saturday, was it not their duty to deliver it on Sunday? Countless calls and visits to the TCS office to no avail.

Finally, Monday late afternoon a TCS delivery person finally comes and delivers.
I tell him my sob story and complain, you know what he says?

“Madam, aap TCS ka shukar ada karein ke aapko aapka package sahi salaamat mil gaya”

Yar.
YAR.

On things like these, who do you even complain to?

last week i had to mail few things lahore.. i went to TCS, airport wala center.. to my surprise, i was told that they have ran out of the 2 kg walay red boxes & either they can send my parcel in 10 kg box (the only one available) while me paying for 10 kg or they can send it in nestle’ ka carton & charge me for the weight accordingly!!

its really disappointing to see that at one end they make the tallest of the claims and on the other hand fail to take care of such small things!!

my intention is just to report an incident coz generally their service is not all that bad.. but in reality, when these things happen, u just end up getting mad..

    Why don’t you use FedEx
“When it absolutely, positively has to be there overnight.”:D
It is a bit expensive but a piece of mind that your shipment will be delivered by 10:30 in the morning.

Always, but always, track your couriered packages. Most couriers will allow online tracking, as does TCS at http://www.tcs.com.pk/pk/

At least you will be aware of any delays this way and why they are occurrring, enabling you to take appropriate action in time.

    A little pro-activeness can help :)

@SK: FedEx does not domestic deliveries – it only delivers international.

@Laydeebird: We had the tracking number. Online tracking was not working and personally or on the phone they said “The number cannot be tracked right now”

Hey this reminds me of an article i read in Good housekeeping the other day.It was like if somebody gives you a good service send his/or her superior an orchid note and if somebody’s service stinks send his/ or her superior an onion note :) Maybe we should applying this rule to ppl offer servicing in pak too. How’s that for a thought? Well i started applyig it not in Pak though but ppl being sent orchid notes for their services really appreciate it and ppl getting onion notes do i need say more but they do call and apologize.

@KIRNA I have sent a couple of documents by FedEx from LHE to KHI about two months ago which were pretty urgent and they delivered them, as I don’t have faith in TCS.

I stopped using TCS very long ago (unless something VERY SPECIAL and URGENT) has to be sent

    Use Shaheen Courier Service

Seriously! IT is a LOT cheaper and it is Pak Govt Owned (yet very good!) Surprised? I was too.
Comparing their prices to TCS, you wont even mind if they deliver a parcel late, which they usually dont.
Its at share-e-faisal (near jason trade). dont know about any other branches

As far as my experience goes, TCS officially doesnt deliver at all on sundays, and about sats, if the package wasnt marked for overnight delivery, it wont get delivered.

As a personal recommendation, for urgent packages, Id suggest using speedex. They have a self-collection and delivery feature. One delivery round takes place in a day, so if your package arrived lets say in the evening, then it will go with next days delivery round. But you can pick it up.

Ive personally sent a package out at 10 pm and my colleague in lahore collected it at about 2 in the night. hence a great service for emergencies!

(speedex has collection centres at the airports, which are open 24 hours)

and yeah by the way…..i thought the rule here was that all the topics shud be related to Karachi….not companies with whom U had a bad time:)……most of us are certainly not interested in ure sob stories….u of all the people would very well understand the importance of personal preferences….

Well..i v been a happy customer of TCS
as a corporate client, i would say their service is much better when you talk about the over all experience.

However i would like to recall and incident where a simple cake and card booking resulted in delivery of an additional Flower bunch with out any added cost;)

p.s. this bonus flower bunch was delivered upon booking a cake for delivery in Karachi.
