The W11 touch

It seems our friendly representatives in the sky take whatever national culture there is, with them. While coming back from Islamabad, the PIA A310 i boarded had a decorated tail, promoting the city/culture of Peshawar, the gateway to the east.

It reminded me of the W11 paintings for which Pakistan has become such famous for. Oh.. and im back!!

*i stand corrected. Its W11, and not W21

the new planes purchased last year all have decorated tails. flights flying to houston new york and toronto represent thar and other regions.

its part of tariq kirmani’s image boostng strategy.

that is a very good initiative but just painting the tail wouldn’t do. i think the whole plane should be painted with the tail remains the old showing the name of the carrier like i’ve seen some of the Chineses planes painted with the themes of the upcoming Olympic in China. the hostesses should be dressed accordingly. and some souvenir/gifts for the pessengers will do tons of good.

Hahahha!!! The feeling is so mutual. I had the same thought coming back from ISB :-) The great thing is that the pattern is different on different planes.

Why don’t they get the planes decorated by Mini Bus Walas , I would love to see ” Maa ki Dua Janat Ki Hawa ” ” Dallar ki Talash ” ” Tapar hai to pass kar warna bardasht Kar “( for JFK Airplane traffic ) written on the tails and with the added Bling Effect , PIA will get all the customers from Kala and Wanna be Kala crowd . Every window should have a sheer wriiten on the top and on the cover , Punjabi and Pashto Films on enetertainment channel , Airhostess like Anjuman , no Wine bar but LAssi and KAstori Doodh bar sponsored by NAgoori Doodh , Garam Garam Halwa Puri for Nashta , Paye and Murgh Chole for Lunch , Kabab Roll for supper and Nehari , Qorma Biryani for dinner followed by Chhach for midnight drink

You know what, of all the liveries that I have seen on PIA’s planes, this seems like the second least attractive to me. First least was of course the infamous wavy flag :D.

Mansoor: it doesnt look to me like the w-11 patterns, or maybe its just me ?

A collection of pictures of all teh new ‘tail’ designs (livery) is available at Pakistaniat.com, here:

By the way, a number of old planes also have the new designs and they will soon be on all PIA planes.

W-11 has yellow/orange bright eye candy colors. The picture here doesnt reflect the true w-11 spirit but a bad analogy of wana be w-11 Orangi to keemari in no time lol

Do the pilots/conductor carry knifes or hockey to take care of troubled passengers if needed ;-)?? W-11’S pillots does.

I was part of launch team of Boeing 777 fleet for Pakistan when working for a PR agency 3 years back, from where this new tails concept started.

The tail’s were twice changed by the fmr. chairman Ahmad Saeed, as he didnt liked the first version hence resulting in huge losses to PIA. Initial design was Pakistan flag on the tail with Pakistan International written on the feuslage / body. Then PIA sent back 7 already painted planes to Boeing for redesigning on El-Al (Israel Airlines) pattern with Flag on the tail & PIA written on the body.

When Mr. Kirmani took charge of PIA, his marketing team came up with the recent idea, to promote Pakistani culture through its plane … original concept of Thai-Air.

For the record; Mr. Ahmed Saeed (Service Rubber Industries – Service shoe stores) was forced to resign after his corruption was exposed by Senate committee on Aviation by a lady Senator from Karachi.

As for Mr. Kirmani, as per the newsitem appeared in daily Dawn, 30 dec 2005:

ISLAMABAD, Dec 30: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Chairman Tariq Kirmani was paid over Rs1.2 million by the airline as a reward for his outstanding performance during the period he was not associated with the national flag carrier.
