commandeered

Its funny, the incidents you see when your out for lunch..

This time, it was a pickup van, going to drop kids home at around 2 PM near the PSO Pump at Nursery, SF. The driver of the van has it on the middle of the road effectively blocking the path of another car which is trying to get into the lane. The car, on the other hand, is blocking the path of the van to get out on main SF. During the 2 minutes i was there, a long line of 6 to 8 cars in direction was jammed. The only way to move was to get the van on the shoulder making way to move others. A couple of traffic policemen came on the scene to resolve it as well.

commandeered.jpgThe traffic cop asks the van-wala to move his van to the side, and the van-wala flatly refuses!! The poor cop tried telling him two to three times but he just would listen. With cars blocked everywhere, the policeman took a bold step. He commandeered the vehicle and put it on the side himself. The poor kids in the back were so shocked and scared that they fled from the van to the nearby PSO Stop Shop. The policeman (now joined by a colleague) then proceeded to direct traffic and opened up the choke.

As his vehicle was taken over, the van driver instead of being a hot head or arguing simply stepped out and started strolling around (presumably keeping an eye on the children) and when the policemen came to him to give him a challan he exited the scene at the pretense of going to look for the children!

How can people be so damn irresponsible? The van-wala had too much of a careless attitude especially since he had the custody of around 10 young children (the oldest could’nt be more than 13)! In my opinion, the policeman was right in doing what he did. Its steps like these which will eventually create a respect for these guys, and maybe knock some sense into the heads of the drivers!
