Yeh hay Radio Pakistan… Khabron ki dukaan

Image023.jpg

One of the oldest buildings in Karachi is Radio Pakistan, located at Bandar Road. It was one of the most popular radio stations back in 60’s (even older) when it was the only form of entertainment. Even my mother used to be a caster back in her school days.

Some of the evergreen songs from Radio Pakistan are:

“Yeh hay radio Pakistan Khabron ki dukaan”
“Bandar road sey kimari chalay ri meri ghora gari, baboo ho ja na foot path pey!”
“Lakri ki katti katti pey ghora….”

The original “Bunder Road se Keamari…” was sung by Ahmed Rushdi and an all time great. However, there was a remix version that used to be played by FM100 around the 1995-96 time frame which had some interesting voice-overs. I believe Nadeem Jaffri had another version too.

There used to be some really nice buildings on Bunder Road, sadly I believe a lot of them have been lost to modern construction and the lack of the concept of preservation of culture and heritage in Pakistan.

    I miss Karachi :(

@ SWA: History of radio Pakistan:

At independence Pakistan possessed three radio stations at Dhaka, Lahore and Peshawar. A major programme of expansion saw new stations opened at Karachi and Rawalpindi in 1948, and a new broadcasting house at Karachi in 1950.

i have heard that they have now completely moved out of this one and gone into the new tall one behind the civic center….i usually don’t listen to RP anymore…after the FM and cable but its good to know they are still here for me…

BTW, can someone tell me for sure when was the kiss or the sound of it banned on RP…there must be an official circular in their archives somewhere….please don’t tell me why it is still banned on the TVone..lol.

    GOD BLESS AMERICA
