Poker in Karachi

Something fun to do on a Saturday night or Sunday evening – poker with your buddies. The biggest hurdle would be the availability of poker chips, but I was surprised to find them readily available in Defence and Clifton, especially Khadda market. After that all you need are a few players who know the basics, some munchies and a bottle to lubricate the evening, and before you know it you may be poorer in the wallet, but richer in spirit.

CY. Poker is my favorite too and my favorite on ESPN is WSP :-). Are there any professional places in Khi where people could play or atleat regular spots where people play on weekly basis.

I have played at lot of casinos and in private settings. The game sure is fun but then it is gambling :-( and playing w/o real money in no fun. Some where I read “Poker is a game of money played with cards”. How true it is.

Anathema, well if you play poker with real money, then you ARE a juwari. And if you drink, then you ARE a sharabi. Call it what it is.

I play it with real money and I know it’s wrong. I seek Allah’s forgiveness. Unless I accept that I am doing wrong, I would never be able to correct myself.

I pray that Allah gives me enough strength to leave all such garbage.

Now I tell you how Satan tries its ways on me.
I am good in P@ker and on average I could make 50% on each outing so if I play with 100$ every weekend then at end of the year , I could have 2500 $ as profit so Satan says that I should keep playing and keep track of the money and at the end of the year, I should give it to some poor or TCF. I am very much convinced with this reasoning. I know I would never use that money on myself (but you never know when Satan gets too strong). I am just trying to avoid those people who could take me to casinos. Couple of hours ago, my friend told me that he won 350$ this weekend in some casino and it is very tempting but then this is a trap of Satan. I know I am a weak person so I just have to avoid that path :-(. Please don’t be proud of your sins.

    Anathema, read what anony said:

if you play poker with real money, then you ARE a juwari. And if you drink, then you ARE a sharabi. Call it what it is.

Kid, you better decide one thing ,either you want to follow a religion or your desires. Yes nobody give a shit that you dance, drink, gamble or even bed with somebody as long as yuo don’t seek religious excuses to justify your fantasies. Yes don’t try to associate religion with your deeds and then preach to ammend a religion by giving basless arguments.

A person who commits a crime and admit that he has done something wrong is more respectable than a person who commits crime and then try to justify it by presenting it as a “Good thing”. Atleast do honest with yourself.

Yes poker game is not bad as long it doesn’t have gambling factor. People even do betting in sports like cricket, soccer etc, it doesn’t mean those games are haram. I know many people have a mentality to declare haram things like TV,mobile etc but they are not right either. It’s like someone starts abusing Perl and C++ just because he doesn’t know how to use these languages.

@Cy: Where in Khadda do you get poker chips?

  25. Anon (unregistered) on January 3rd, 2007 @ 8:52 pm

How did religion get into this? Kuch sharam karo yaar, zindagi bhot choti hai, chein se jeenay do!

  26. shaDy (unregistered) on January 3rd, 2007 @ 10:43 pm

    I hate poker! :(

It’s (obviously) fine if anyone else wants to play it though, for money, chips, houses, cars, goats, whatever.

    On a side note though:

I’m still waiting for the day when the internet maulvi’s will stop visiting the KMB to tell some of us “less holy”, “kid(s)” how to live our lives. I mean, if you’re *such* a great muslim, why aren’t you out on our streets cleaning up the trash and helping all the beggars and heroin addicts out instead of sitting around online telling us what to do? Or is that just too much work? Or wait…. Did God ask you to preach to us from your bedroom computer?

I keep asking myself where these awesome muslims are when I drive past hot n spicy and ten kids run after the car asking for money, or when I realize that our city is as ugly as fuaAk, or when I find out that we don’t have any education programs for our people, half the country is starving and the other half is mostly corrupt.

But… still no shaandaar muslims in sight, sorry.

It’s very easy to play the good shareef muslim when you’re sitting in your bedroom or living room typing to people you’ve never met before, and something completely different to actually play good muslim in real life by making a difference to your city and environment.

Atleast the poker players don’t pretend to be anything other than poker players, and whatever their deeds may be, it’s in God’s hands to judge since they’re his creation, not yours.

    So please STFU.

Poker’s cool and all, but does Karachi have strip clubs?

  28. Mo (unregistered) on January 4th, 2007 @ 9:32 am

    Does Karachi have gentlemen’s clubs?

    *beats censorship?*

Upon searching of blog sites which I believe that my site Online Casino Reviews can relate to, I find this site useful. Topics discussed are very interesting, informative especially on casino and gambling related issues and the like. Keep it up and more power!

  30. Anon (unregistered) on January 5th, 2007 @ 3:12 am

Karachi should certainly have gentlemens clubs, first ones to show up will be the mullas and the hypocrits…Drinking does NOT make you a sharabi and gambling does NOT make you a jawari – Our Prophet at one time also drank so just because a person has done it or is an occasional drinker does NOT constitute being an alcoholic. Please think twice before you write and go read the defination of SHARABI / ALCOHOLIC.

Before asking someone else, ask yourself what have you done for others. Irony is that you also have been typing and visiting this blog to preach your ‘religion’ like “us”. and yes its easy to exhibit broadmindness and enlightment on Internet but not easy in real life.

  32. Poo Poo head (unregistered) on January 5th, 2007 @ 7:04 pm

Anon, what a stupid comment. I have never heard and never read such thing any where. Fet your facts straight dude.

I’m still waiting for the day when the internet maulvi’s will stop visiting the KMB

Look son I tell you something today which your elders at home didn’t teach you.

The world is free so is Internet. You should keep one thing in your upper chamber that you can’t shut anyone’s mouth, neither by force nor by willing. Nobody expect you to get agreed all the time nor you should expect anyone else to agree with you everytime. If you dislike/disagree with something ,do convince others that they are wrong or you are right but you can’t “dictate” them to keep their mouth shut. I m afraid that if this isyour attitude in real life then you would suffer big time. What I guess that you are some teenage guy who has not even crossed 18 and haven’t tasted “practical life”. If you physically adult then sorry to say that your mental growth have stopped long time back.

If you dislike your oponents which you called “molvis” then you can just 1)ignore them 2)adjust with them 3)leave this cruel world. You have no other choice. You can only dictate to yourself but not others. I personally get happy when someone call me a “molvi” because I know what’s the status of “Mullah/Molvi” in Islam which you were not taught back in home.

I hope you would reconsider your attitude and would stop hurting yourself by waiting tht “your oponents get vanished”. Think seriously to get mature.

    have fun!

I love Poker too! I like to play online though. I have never bet my own money as I know that this is known as gambling, and once you start on that path it’s hard to come back. But I still win about $100 a week!

Everyone can play online poker for real money if you know how to get your hands on it. There are also some great community sites that teach you how to be a great online poker player. If you have the time and the willing you should check them out. No need to spend any money cause it’s all free!

http://www.pokeradore.com is a good place to start, and also pokerstratagy.com.
