Karachi, a city whose streets are full of tales within its name carries a story itself.
Karachi is a name that has evolved over a period of time.
Darbo, Tobara, Moron, Janat, Sikandri, Krokala, Khoralabail, khorali, Debal, Kalachi, Kalachi-jo-goth, Kalachi-jo-kan, Kharachi, Kakrala, Karasher, KalatiBandar, Krokal, krokali, karanji, krokata, Dharoja, Korah, Karashi,khoraji, karachar, koranji, kaomara, gharachar,daraja etc.
In 1860, when Karachi Chamber of commerce was formed, the city was officially named as “Karachiÿ≤.
“Karachi was published in government gazette and all local and government institutions were instructed to write the city’s name as published. Till then Karachi has always been “The Karachi.

    1) Moron
    2) Karasher
    3) KalatiBandar
    4) Kanjari (I think it’s there somewhere)

    As a born Karachiite who has now spent more years living out of the great city then in it, it breaks my heart every time i visit the place and try to get to some of my old haunts.

    Karachi has a lovely heritage and a great history, but sadly politics, maladminstration, too many “outsiders” with no great love for the city running the joint and general apathy have meant that the city’s heritage is being gradually lost.

    Come one guys, you are citizens of one of the world’ great cities. Please wake up and make it look like one! protect your history and your heritage before it is lost completely to your next generation.
