New bus route needed

Although we see buses and coaches invading our roads at any given time, it turns out that they fail to cover major ground. We received this message from a reader Faisal recently,

“I would like to bring attention to an issue that has become the problem for office going people particularly for people who go on bus/coach from Gulshan Chowrangi to Shahrah-e-Faisal, particularly to any area between Finehouse and Nursery. Many of our high profile companies and offices lie within that area and so hundreds of people have their jobs there. Currently we have only one coach “Starline” which goes from Gulshan Chowrangi to Shahrah-e-Faisal taking its route from Nipa, Hussan Square, Stadium, Liaquat National, Ptv Center road, Tariq road, Finehouse and then on Shahrah-e-Faisal till Regent Plaza. There is also another route “W-30” but it goes from Rashid Minhas road, takes its turn from Drigh road and then later on turns left from Baloch colony. Now any person who wants to go on bus to this area between Fine house and Nursery will have to opt only for “Starline”. But that coach on all working days is jam-packed. Hardly people get any space inside it even just to help stand straight. Many find their place outside the coach by hanging out and getting just a grip onto the bus exit door handles. There is a great chance for accident in this unwanted and awkward stance but for reaching to that area through this bus has unfortunately become their only choice. Besides this irony they have to bear the illiterate and stubborn behavior of conductors of this coach. I myself have daily routine bearing this route’s pains, because otherwise I have to change at least 2 buses which not only costs me much but causes delay reaching in time to office… ”

I commuted on public transport all through my student life so I know how it feels to be on those buses. Can anyone else relate to what has been stated above? Which bus do you take if you are to travel that route? Any transporter reading this would like to comment?

I travel daily to same route from Hasan Square to Tipu Sultan and only Starline coach goes on this route. When I joined my new office for starting 2 days I tried to travel through these coaches but you can’t even get place on the door. So I finally decide to go by the rickshaw it cost me 70 Rs but it is better to travel by rickshaw rather than getting all the stress before reaching to office.

we not only need more and better buses but other(alternate) ways of traveling like Circular Railway System etc.

@Raja Islam: not everyone can afford rickshaw for their everyday commute.

i’ve travelled on other coaches in student life, and on occasion even waited for upto 3 hours to catch a bus, as all of them were too crowded. (thankfully, one can take that liberty when going home from uni).

but i guess the solution isn’t more busses, every bus route is clogged just as much. agreed with farstar, we need a mass transit more than new busses (but they couldn’t hurt either :P)

rajaislam: really? DAILY by rickshaw??!! that must put a serious dent on ur pocket man :p

Its a painful route. W30 and Starline are jam packed in the morning. The city government aka MQM only working on flyovers for ease of those who own their transport. Common man is still suffering and will continue to suffer unless mass transit system is adopted, which is no where in sight in near future due to lack of vision so buy your car or stop voting anybody who doesnt improve your daily life standard.

You are right Mansoor but I have no other option except rickshaw :(.Any suggestion would be very much appreciated.
All we need is some kind of intercity railway.

Well folks, travelling by rickshaw is not that much expensive in a way, you can consider it that you have arranged a coach service for your self… but no wonder people like me (Always empty pockets) can not afford such expense any way. by the way I know Raja personally and we work in the same office, Thank God I have my bike which is comparatively cheap. W30 and Starline are pain as I my self experienced it for almost 5 years. I belive for us travelling by rickshaw everyday is not feasable but I think it is for Raja, I hope Allah will give all of us such opportunity to have enough some of money so that we can spend on such luxury ‘Ameen’.

Starline, well only who travels from starline can feel it, this is the only bus in this route, if one wants to go to Shahra-e-Faisal (Specially Lal Kohti) he has no other choice but to opt Starline (either he can go for 3 buses). In morning around 8 to 830 it comes jam packed on Abul Hasan Ispehani Road, very hard to get place in doors too. It takes around 5-8 minutes time if one waits for another bus. Same is the situation in evening from Lal Kothi Bus Stop. In morning people get late to their destinations either work, school or whatsoever and in evening tired people coming back to their homes suffers from this too. Besides heavily packed another quality of Starline is they dont care for their ticket time and anything they just go at the speed they want, normally too slow and they take more than an hour to reach the same destination which any other bus covers in 40 minutes.
    Lets hope for better results
Can someone arrange a private bus service for this route, like we have for tower route

    Thanks for bringing this up.
I love traveling in buses (not coaches, they are for riders) but they should be clean. I hate rickshaw & taxis. They are such confined block. Traveling in a bus is itself a treat in Karachi especially when the people around you are nice and friendly.

Have good memories in different buses. You meet different people with absolutely contrasting personalities & backgrounds. It is fun traveling in a decent bus in Karachi but at the same time its absolute hell if it’s the other way.

Once a pathan gave me a lengthy lecture on how naswaar is made. a mowlana sahib was so kind that he had the whole bus iftaari with his own money during ramazan. I came across a bus conductor who used to narrate different jokes & sing broken lyrics of different songs. If taken in a friendly manner it’s such a good social experience being month people with different opinions. These are just few examples. All in all it has been a tough experience due to the pathetic roads & half-drunk drivers. The public has to go through tough time especially during rush hours.

Even though i still use bus some time. I badly miss those good moments. I am dying to travel in train inside Karachi which was norm back in old days.

Well Well Well Lets try to find a proper solution, i am not in touch with any transporter but if any one is, then please do ask them to run private bus service at this route in office hours. I am interested to opt for such a service rather than starline and i hope many of our users will be
