Karachi Reacts?

Just another political move or a true representation of the reaction to the events unfolding in Islamabad by Karachiites- I leave that to you to decide, but this is all the street art that one will find in this city of 15 million.

I remember when Altaf “bhai” got married then I saw banners Altaf bhai ko shadi mobarak ho Minjanib Ahliyan-e-Karachi near azizabad.

Thank God Altaf bhai was not our leader since childhood otherwise Karachiites would have experienced banner like “Altaf bhai ko Aqeeqa Mobarak ho”.

I found it necessary to post this artile ( thanks ADNAN for sharing it in other post )

Enlightenment is not to keep or remove daadhi or to wear WESTERN attire or behave like one. If you want to see real enlightenment here is one for you. It comes from a mentality & not dress or being educated or not educated. And here is that mentality.

jo log apna baig nahi utha saktey

A CSS clear officer is less enlighten then a chaprasi with integrity.

  4. Concerned (unregistered) on April 13th, 2007 @ 7:18 pm

Who said anything about who is more enlightened and who is less enlightened. You are right it is about mentality and not dressing.

All i know is tht those mullahs in Islamabad are definitely no where near enlightenment.

It’s a shame to see Exteremeism of one view lead people to the extereme of the other. Shariah law is not to be blamed. If people are misinterpreting Shariah, then it’s the people who should be blamed.

MQM wastes million of rupees(public money) to get these banner printed and then tag them as “from citizen of karachi”

  8. KhiTorPit (unregistered) on April 13th, 2007 @ 10:22 pm

Oh come on Karachittes why do you blame mqm for each and every thing ?
Its bcoz of you only that they are in power with such a hugh number of votes.

  9. Concerned (unregistered) on April 13th, 2007 @ 10:38 pm

People of Khi elect MQM, they represent ppl of Karachi, so wht ever they say, they say for the people of karachi.

  10. Haseeb A (unregistered) on April 13th, 2007 @ 10:50 pm

Haha, they are the same people who stood quite when innocent people were being bombed in Bajur and other areas.. same people who drilled holes in human beings who were their opponents or punjabi’s, same people who are renowned for their bhatta, same people…… look whose talking.. yes, eradicate extremism, including THEM FIRST!!

let me paste letter to editor written by renowned newspaper columnist Ardeshir Cowasjee titled

    “We will shoot you …”

MY family owns Mules Mansions, a building with a beautiful architectural fa√ßade which stands near the Boating Basin at Keamari. It was built 90 years ago, in 1917, by my grandfather, Fakirjee Cowasjee, who was encouraged to put up this fine building by the chairman of Karachi Port Trust, Sir Charles Mules, “… so that people arriving by sea may appreciate the pleasant and enlightened city they are entering” (Shaukat Aziz’s tourists’ paradise?)

The courtyard has been occupied by a group of `unauthorised’ people. My brother, Cyrus and our caretaker, Kalay Khan, have tried to reasonably persuade them to move out. On April 3, they received a letter by mail, purported to have been written by `The Sector in charge, UC8, Burns Road Sector MQM’, a portion of which when translated from Urdu, reads:

“… if you continue to urge Mules Mansions tenants to vacate the building we will take action … firstly we will shoot Kaley Khan and then next we will shoot you. Count your days after 24 hours … we will shift you to an unknown place and finish both of you off. … If you inform the police you know they will be unable to take any action against us”.

The CPLC has been informed as have the seemingly `good’ faces of the MQM, Governor Ishratul Ebad and Dr Farooq Sattar. This is a blighted country.

then a follow up letter on the same topic

    Life and death

THIS is with reference to the letter by Ardeshir Cowasjee (April 5). I am surprised that a letter on such an important subject by such an eminent person has caused no ripples — anywhere! No letters, no editorials no official cognisance.

Have we, as a nation, become so insensitive even to matters of life and death? Or, have we satisfied our conscience by blaming the situation on successive military regimes and the long rule of President Musharraf?

Or, is it that we are all afraid of the possible repercussions of opening our mouths? (after all, “Jo quaid ka ghaddar hai, woh maot ka haqdar hai”).

I, for one, would take the liberty to advise my educated, cultured and sensible brethren in Karachi that the time has come for them to dissociate themselves from a semi-fascist party. It will increase their power and say in national affairs, not decrease it.

its really ironic and sad that Mr Ardeshir Cowasjee who has been very vocal and active against illegal construction of Land mafia around our beautiful city has been threatened by Sector in charge of MQM after his brother tried to vacate the courtyard of his house that was illegally occupied by unauthorized people having the support of local MQM goons and terrorist and these thugs are openly threating to kill him and boasting that complaining to police would be futile coz police won’t be able to touch them…(coz currently most of police officials get approval from 90 before they’re posted as DPOs and TPOs

  17. Adnan Siddiqi (unregistered) on April 14th, 2007 @ 1:22 am

Forget all this crap, tell me why our nation is so idiot that they believed in theory that receiving calls from specific telenor and warid number causing heart attack???? I receieved so many messages by people to NOT recieve calls from specific warid and telenor #s? GEO once again demonstrated its retardness by creating more panic after releasing it as a “BREAKING NEWS”.

Is Qom ko charya banana kitna asaan hay…

  18. d0ct0r (unregistered) on April 14th, 2007 @ 1:48 am

@Adnan well said… our public is so innocent and masoom.. any one can take them for a ride.. koi be in ko pagal bana sakta hai..

  19. softjoint (unregistered) on April 14th, 2007 @ 1:59 am

Would Cowasjee care to prove that the letter he received is from MQM? Or could it be someone trying to use the name of the party. Best advise is to go to court rather then posting this shit all over.

  20. Dee (unregistered) on April 14th, 2007 @ 3:19 am

“that they believed in theory that receiving calls from specific telenor and warid number causing heart attack????”……> @Adnan.I dont know about recieving calls from specific numbers or from specific mobile provdiers can make you susceptible for having a heart attack but when we go to hospitals here in Canada, we are asked to turnoff our cell phones as they are capable of disrupting *Pace maker* activity. So there is some truth when comes to mobile causing heart attack :)

  21. d0ct0r (unregistered) on April 14th, 2007 @ 3:36 am

@Dee true but here the rumour was being spread that
if you receive call from xyz number then blood will start comming out of your ears and nose and you’ll bleed to death…(some one in india actually made up this april fool prank)…

btw there are health hazards associated with extensive usage of mobile and high frequency mobile towers.. research is still being done on this subject

  22. Obi Wan Kenobi (unregistered) on April 14th, 2007 @ 7:08 am

Doctor Sahib, I honestly do no believe that any sector incharge would write such letter. If Cowasjee had said that he emailed him, I would have believed by the way :-). I am not saying that Cowasjee produced a fake letter but then you can not trust any one, can you ?? Most probably there were some middle people who tried to use “terror” of sector incharge.

  23. d0ct0r (unregistered) on April 14th, 2007 @ 11:42 am

@Obi Wan Kenobi its really common in karachi for sector/unit incharge to threaten any one.. nothing to be surprised about…

  24. d0ct0r (unregistered) on April 14th, 2007 @ 11:46 am

even the area TPO(town police officer) is fearful of them….

  25. Zag (unregistered) on April 14th, 2007 @ 12:23 pm

Not that i am a fan of mqm or anything like that, but MQM has said a number of time that there are ppl who are not associated with the party but are using party’s name for their own purposes, such as blackmail, bhatta wasoli…. and have asked the ppl to contact the party offices if they recieve any such threats….

Mr. Cowasjee has already contacted Ishrat-ul-Ebad and farooq Sattar so maybe in this sunday’s column we’ll know what happeend and whether the letter was really genuine or from an imposter.

  26. MB (unregistered) on April 14th, 2007 @ 12:33 pm

Benazir, Nawaz swear 100 of times that they were all clean , pure & that they never indulged in any bad deals etc.

So i am sure you believed them too ?

Actions speak louder than words. I have goood number of Mohajir friends & they are “proud” that their sector in charges are now in control. Their typical answer is ” ye toh kerna parta hai na siyasat mai” as if the pubclic has legalised the gunda philosophy of their leaders.

If anyone has to bring a change about MQM it will have to come within MQM. Unless these gundas are not removed no one will believe to how many times they say what ever.

  27. d0ct0r (unregistered) on April 14th, 2007 @ 3:47 pm

@Zag the problem is that infront of every one the MQM leaders disassociate themselves from these bathakhor thugs and gundas but in reality they use them for extortion and to control areas and get their “work” done….

I saw the days of Altaf Hussain when he was only a common midclass dude expelled by Islami Jamiat Tulba he was at UK (University of KarachI), after university bickerings about cast & hate among students later in evening oustide his house in a ground little farther (now jinnah ground) he use to have a Baythak gathering people around him and flame out venom of how karachi suffer because of merit system among students and the Civilian services of Pakistan. And how resources of karachi are drained out for greater benefit of REST of Pakistan.

I have couple of times pushed started the blue suzuki fx due to down battery or lack of fuel (at that time petrol was 7.55 a litre) driven by zareen majeed, late azeem tariq and few of prime stalwarts of MQM. A very very close friend of mine STILL lives only 100 meters away from 90 the HQ of MQM.

Amir Khan, Afaq Ahmed, Saleem Shehzad were heads of Terror Extortion & execution cell. I have whole history of them, they are off track since day one and Karachi is hijacked.

whatever was reason of formation of MQM and or their Articles of party constitution -it was THEN NOT Justified and Neither it is NOW ACCEPTABLE they are way off track., since they came into being. None of their basic reasons of “Coming Into Being for Rights of Karachi” is yet to see fullfilment.

Quota system is intact – that was BASIC ISSUE over which Hasan Musana Alavi & TEAM drafted the concept of MQM. Altaf Hussain & Azeem Tariq jointly executed.

They were street urchins THEN, they filtered it with the help of Naseer Ullah Babur. The only continuity to MQM is they have accumalated a vote bank which is intact on terror & hatered policy for those who are lazy uneducated and wish everything easy way.

MI 6 would be releasing some text about MQM by 2008 when some reports for south asia will be unclassified, by then I hope Karachi will be in a better shape under better leadership.

Good to see tht MQM bashing is still continuing. I sort of agree with Turab, I dont come here to argue about politics, I come to see how my city is doing.

Any one interested in discussing politics should go to another blog.
