Karachi & the borderless circle of KMB

Karachi is mini Pakistan, practically anything
that affects it relates to Karachi one way or other, therefore it
becomes highly confusing to decide when posting topics not related
purely to Karachi” but do relate to it “technically“.

A good technical trick is it so catch
the issue of the topic instead of topic of the issue. e.g. I cannot
catch the Lal Masjid (topic) but I can catch Extremism (issue) which
luckily mostly relates to Khi & saves me. (Do I sound devil?)

As there is no specific formula to decide what
actually is related to Pakistan but no way related to Khi we authors
cross the line once in a while & he being friendly & helpful bears it
patiently. There is almost an abundance of topics that fall under this
border less circle especially Sports or Movies & Art etc.

A KMB readers + authors meet up may help but readers being always helpful, I decide to find their views. So far the “We post you just read” style has worked fine. The final answer may rest with captain but what actually KMB readers view on it, especially those who suddenly post a link on breaking news & request for a post. Is occurrence & the place be the only criteria ?

MB, can you please delete either of my above comments. There was a glitch in my submission so I had to rewrite my previous comment. But now I am seeing that both had been published. Delete this one as well.

well MB was trying to say that every national news is some how related to Karachi (coz its mini Pakistan with people for all parts of country living here) and the that Authors have often been accused of posting topics which are not related to Karachi… he is trying to explain/justify that…

whats the confusion? karachi (mini pakistan) has decided democratically that they are going to rally against extremism so why would kmb not cover that opinion? Noone has to agree, and clearly people dont but its not like you posted about the chinese new year parade :)

    @ARSALAN HALEEM @DOC @MANSOOR @ASH

Okay guys i need to know your opinion about Sports & movies etc & how to categorize them if they are related to KHI or not

And also what about the TV shows & programs or current affair programs, how you going to decide on that ?

ARe you going to check where they are originating from ? or what viewer’s they are intended at ?

This coming from an expatriat: I think the point at MB is that it is the city blog. As long as the story takes place in karachi, it is fair game. Sports events are easy to deal with. If the game is in karachi or Karachi is playing, it is relevant.
Some TV shows are clearly based in Karachi with a strong karachi flavor, I guess they can be worked into a post. Unfortunately, our film industry is not producing anything worthwile. It might be interesting to view movies from 60s/70s to see what Pakistan/Karachi was like in the good old days.

has decided democratically that they are going to rally against extremism so why would kmb not cover that opinion? N

    *grin*

A person who is a part of dictatorship system,is a product of dictatorship and promotes dictatorship sounds hypocrite when talks about democracy which is anti-dictatorship.

The next day ,karachiites along with karachi lawyers were protesting against the violent decision of dictator against CJ Iftikhar. Even the the author of this post covered it. I wonder whether ASH would make similar statment and support people who are against dictator mush .

What about programs like “Live with Talat” ( all recent programs from KARACHI )

CNBC’s Mujahid barelvi’s program or Dr Shahid Masood’s Meray Mutabiq or the dramas or the comedy shows. What about a post on the advertisement etc.

  11. ash (unregistered) on April 22nd, 2007 @ 9:54 pm

Well adnan the whole CJ thing was extensively covered on kmb even when karachi wasnt involved directly, and i was fine with that. The CJ lovers are often somehow also MQM haters so the “democratic” thing was for them :)

MB to answer your question i think that KMB shouldnt cover a national story that is better off being covered on islamabad/lahore metroblogs, and you shouldnt cover something that has already been covered there, unless its a huge story like the CJ/Extremism thing. Aside from that i guess anything that karachiites are likely to know about and talk about even if it didnt happen in karachi should be fair game.

MB, I hope someone would have covered ProComm 2007. I am desprate to know the details. What I see that authors here just write about the things which are already covered in papers and most of issues are raised by authors which they share to demonstrate their frustration against a community[for Example Cy].

It would be nice if KMB covers more about education, gives suggestion to improve education. As I said that I was surprised that ProCOMM was not even mentioned though the captain of this blog is an ex-Fastian. A state where people prefer U2 over educational exhibitions/contest can’t be expected to produce something good for future.

    Adnan paai
mei ne already bataya hai na ki i couldn’t cover & have apologised as well. But anyways i am actually trying to get something on it.

I have just called an friend to see if i he has any info on it. But as you know we are not journalist that can move around too much for news.

We try to cover things with our limitations. Still i shall see what i can do.
