in other blogs #2: why not, prey?

Sometimes, it takes a foreigner’s perspective to understand the benefits of certain things. I’m sure you all have seen the huge number of eagles which fly around karachi, but have any of you thought about the potential benefits of them?

Andy H from romania discusses just that in his blog “Cs√≠kszereda musings” Read here.

The sky over Karachi is thick with birds. There’s nothing so odd about that, obviously, since many cities have flocks of starlings or sparrows or pigeons or what have you looping about the skyline…… What’s odd, I realised, is that it is unusual. Why is it that other cities are not so similarly blessed with an airborne rodent control system?

I don’t know how many species of birds we have in Karachi, but the only ‘birds’ that I get to see all the time, is the Crows.

And as far as my knowledge is concerned, crows only populate those areas that are dirty, filthy, with heaps of rubbish lying around in piles……and Karachi fits the discription completely.

P.S. Where’s there is filth, rubbish, there will be rodents too.

Bravo Andy! Viva Karachi : )

“crows (only) populate those areas that are dirty …”

U’re being unnecessary harsh with Karachi my friend. I mean there are lots of crows in UK & wouldn’t say England is dirty. So look at the bright side always! LOVE WHAT YOU HAVE :)

    @ Arsalan

    Try this

    – Leave a garbage bag in ur back yard 7 AM in morning completely closed sealed, which ever color u wish. – 7.45 AM I can guarantee you it will be nibbled opened and all garbage scattered around. –

Be it area Chakiwara of Karachi or Malir cantt DHA 2 which is cleanest of Areas existing in Karachi.

    – you can not co-relate dirt & garbage for population of birds, crows etc etc – Yes Garbage does play breeding grounds for rodents & reptlies.

Outside my 2nd floor office window sill – a bowl of water and bajra exist since when i was a knicker wearing school going little boy, and i see variety of birds on that. There is no garbage around !

    :) cheers!
