Dawn News – Starts its transmission

dawn%20main%20logo.jpgFinally after months intense preparations the Dawn Group has finally launched its All-English News Channel known as Dawn News. The Dawn Group underwent some serious issues with the bureaucracy in the process of launching the channel quite literally pushing the launch date back by well over three months. Today at midnight precisely at 12:00am the first transmission took to the airwaves in the form of an initial test transmission. English news broadcasting will most definitely face an uphill task in comparison to the Urdu channels but I am sure the unbiased reporting style of Dawn will most probably prevail to become a great source of information for everyone.

The test transmission is already underway and is available on World Call, while the official launching ceremony is schedule for sometime today on Friday which is expected to be graced by our ‘President-cum-General’ Pervaiz Musharraf who has chosen to grace our bruised and battered city of Karachi, two weeks after the May 12th catastrophe. I hope this occasion can serve as a celebration of the independence of media in Pakistan but more importantly I hope this allows the opportunity for the media to ask the tough questions, as to his role / agenda in the 5/12 massacre.

The bruised City of Karachi naturally welcomes the leader with a ‘very guarded’ reception, contrary to the inadequate preparations made for the CJP reception on May 12th. From midnight tonight the entire length of Shahrai Faisal is brimming with a heavy contingent of Police and Rangers fully armed to their teeth and no signs of those lathi’s and sticks which were their weapon of choice on May 12th.

As the President of Pakistan, I feel he might be entitled to all these security measures but sadly on May 12th he was celebrating the death of 48 people while addressing the rent-a-crowd in Islamabad, had he been truly concerned then the rent-a-crowd jalsa should have mattered little in comparison to the free-for-all massacre underway in Karachi. With heartless leaders like these, May Allah have mercy on Pakistan

Dawn News is definitely a fresh face into this media frenzy and with the excellent reputation carried by the Dawn Newspaper I truly hope that the Dawn News TV can truly live up to the high standards and attempt to set itself apart from many other channels littering the Pakistani airwaves.

Good Luck Dawn News TV, Make Karachi Proud.

MQM workers are protesting outside press club coz Imran has said that he’ll lodge a case against grand terrorist Altaf of london and would request Interpol to deport him to pakistan…

MQM threatens to kill 13 senior journalist and then it protests outside press club..

Altaf bhai personally use to go to press club back in earlier days when MQM was launched on his 50 motorbike to submit statements of his party and the chowkidar there didn’t use to let him inside and use to push him out… now same Altaf bai’s terrorist took over the press club and while they
occupied press club, got Ajj and Geo blacked out from cable networks for not covering them…

Every sensible person here realizes who is ‘aqal ka andha’.

One more thing, I can use the same or even worse language but you see, there are many other ways to express your dislikeness about something rather than using typical sarak wali language.

Further (phat-ti kyon hay) is not a very reasonable word to use here.

    Thank you.

@Tamed~, Sorry man for using harsh language, but you should not have criticize me, I was raising so valid point of security of reporters which no one have raised in this whole conversation.

    @ citizen of Khi

Geo did show the parody of Altaf Hussain in a recent hum sab umeed say hein!! just tell kisi aur nay dare kee ?? not even Channel 4 news ( of AAj)walay!

    @ Tamed

Yaar you hav problem with everybody ! tumhay tou lagta hai no body is giving job!

Somebody pointed towards the tablet , and must say that it really looked cool!! better than a mousepad and a mouse and a keyboard carried by the Geo anchors.

Another new!! They read news “standing” ! did not like the concept (hated it)!

Musharraf’s speech at Dawn News inauguration was gud! the point he raised of media’s projection of lal masjid ka ghunda, as if he is the new age hero and Iraq war “no coverage of US soldiers not being shown dead but saddam shown in his miserable condition” was interesting. let see what cowasgee write on Mush’s speech in his article!

Altaf hussain a British national claiming to protect the rights of mohajirs in Pakistan by living in U.K. Imran khan cud have easily become a British national by virtue of his marriage to Jemmimah but choose to be a Pakistani and remain in Pakistan.

Imran Khan won world cup for Pakistan and created one of the best Cancer Institute in Pakistan.

Altaf Hussain’s party mastered the bhatta culture & successfully managed to sacrifise hundreds of Pakistanis.

Dawn news was such a downer. The copy of the news was inconsistent, the anchors were all so bloody desi and average (barring Adnan Jaffer and Naveen Naqvi) thatthe I watched in horror for two straight hours.

The name ‘Dawn’ has been associated qualitym whether it is the newspaper, their magazine ‘Herald’ or the radio station ‘FM city 89’. But Dawn News was simply …. BAD

DAWN NEWS sucks right now. I think they took this thing to the air waves, half-baked. The camera focus on the anchors is so bad, it looks like they are shooting in a shoe closet.

    What a disappointment.

Teeth Maestro, stop calling Karachi your city because you may live here but your attitude, your words, your mental state, your writing all of them resemble nothing close to actual karchites. Karachi does not need your sorry pity. You are a black sheep in my beloved city Karachi anyway. Move back to wherever you came from to welcome CJP, playboy Khan and your other role models like General Tikka Khan, Naseer Ullah Babar, and General Ayub Khan.

Dawn Group transmission did not require Pervaiz Musharraf bashing. You are full of venom.

  17. Teeth Maestro (unregistered) on June 2nd, 2007 @ 1:45 pm

@syed M Raza – Ahhh it is so satisfying to have gotten under your skin – ROTFL

But on a serious note – Come on be serious – if I don’t vouch for your argument you abuse me and throw me out of the city, grow up, its the dialog between different groups of people that I value the most, you have a point and I have another, respect that and use it to improve our city.

Sadly with the present military dictatorship there is no accountability hence no dialog – and when the dialog heats up they block TV channels and books. So respect the dialog.

I don’t know if you are pissed at this dawn report or the one I made about Musharraf’s speech on my blog – to be honest this KMB post was nothing as compared to the one on my blog ;)

I was also waiting for Dawn News channel. But it was a real turn off to hear that Musharraf is going to launch the transmission.

Today in your afternoon news the newscaster prounced JAGI
(which is a name of a large tribe fom afghanistan) as RAGI.Probably it was due to, either typing mistake or our noisy communication system which disfigured an otherwise beautiful name of a proud and liberal tribe.
