The Price We Paid For The President’s Trip To Town

VIP movement forced traffic to come on a stand still once again yesterday as President Musharaff graced us with his presence to launch the Dawn News channel. Seen here is the photo in the Metropolitan section of today’s Express, showing a seemingly endless line of cars and buses stuck on Shahrah-e-Faisal. President Mushy, in his speech, reminded the media of their responsibility, accusing them of being obsessed with sensationalism and negative reporting, but too bad for the President, no one warned him that God has His own, ever so subtle, way of highlighting hypocrisy.

Simultaneously as the general was lecturing the media on how their reporting some times brings a “negative impact on the economic and social progress of the country” and accusing them of not keeping the nation’s interest at heart, this traffic jam, amongst numerous other things which would have doubtless come to a stand still as his VIP escort made way through the city, in its own small way showed us what is really bringing a “negative impact on the economic and social progress of the country”. Not the media General, its you.

Its not only him. Citizens pay price for the VIP moment of stupid GENERALS, officers & CM’s governors etc.

In my diary he is a killer. For whatever reasons.

MB – I was really touched by the fact that the 23 year old girl died because the roads were blocked for VVIP movement. These stories are never told and all attempts were made by the administration to shut up the group of friends in Karachi University who were objecting against this act.

There must be a lot more stories that never reach beyond the families simply because this amounts to bad publicity. In my post about the Dawn News channel i mentioned that security arrangements were made well in advance before his arrival on Friday – but sadly on May 12th the forces simply took a day off !!! I continue to sit in amazement as to how they could be so inhumane to conjour up such a plan

This is the cost of living in a big city. Every country and city do make VVVIP arrangement for VVVVVVVIP’s so whats the big deal. Why people can not make the alternate arrangements. He is the world RESPECTED GENERAL & PRESIDENT and tum aur tumhari aanae wali nasloan ko khush hona chahiyae kae Pakistan main aisa president hae , instead of Complaining. Why do’nt you go and live in Chicha Watni where you will not face with these traffic problems and can ride the Donkey cart.Complainer complainer….

@pee khan alternate arrangements like flying their patients to hospital? problem with MQM’s supporter is that instead of accepting wrong being done, they come up with stupid justifications…

PKhan, in how many countries have you lived and/or witnessed such arrangements?
One thing is common in MQM supporters, they value everything above human lives. Some patients got killed so what?

I am sorry for your mental conditions now. Instead of answering questions you are coming with wonderful arguments.

@PKhan: Your guess is wrong. I am not bald. Neither I meant looking at countries on world maps. :D

  12. MB (unregistered) on May 26th, 2007 @ 6:36 pm

I often see readers with baseless arguments. Why people cannot argue on facts & logic.

Can you please give us some examples & facts on where this happens around the world. In which country someone died because of a president?. At least i shall sure appreciate your argument in light of a proof.

In philosophy there is a branch known as dialectics. I request you to read some books on it.

It helps alot from sounding dumb & duffer who just goes against any point to a sensible logical reply.

And sure i will bring you something about how other VVIP’s in other parts of world move from one place to another.

Just be patient & wait a little. But for the time being read this article on your VVIP’s attitude

    Just a reminder,

On at least the posts I post on KMB, personal attacks are strictly not allowed. Please keep the discussion civil and before you press the comment button ask your self if you have would have talked to that person like you have if he or she was standing or sitting in front of you in real life and the whole world was watching.

If you were expecting that I’d cheer on as the almighty president was delivering a sermon and others were burning their car’s fuel, drenching in sweat in traffic, and getting a serious headache from noise and air pollution surrounding them, then I’m sorry, I can’t do that, even if it comes across as complaining to you.

You said people should make alternate arrangements. There are 17 million in Karachi. What makes more sense, that all of us make alternate arrangements or one president makes those alternate arrangements?

I’m not apposed to special arrangements being made for VIPs, I’m just opposed to how these special arrangements bring the city on a virtual stand still, when it clear in my mind that these arrangements can be made without this happening so with just a tiny bit more effort and organization. But who cares about ordinary Pakistanis in this country?

Also worth asking perhaps, if such “fool proof” arrangements for security can be made for the President, (and we had been seeing evidence of them from early Thursday only), why similar arrangements could not have been made two weekends ago on 5/12, when every mob in the city was given a free license to cause whatever disruption he deemed fit to cause!

And yes, I don’t care if this does happen (which I highly doubt) or does not happen in other parts of the world, it still isn’t acceptable to me that that the life of the President should be more sacred then the life of ordinary Karachiites, especially when the President keeps on going on and on endlessly about how much he has the nation’s interest at his heart. I’m sick and tired of such hypocrisy.

Let me just paste last part of latest post on my blog again. Let me see if any pro-Mush has an answer to it.

” During a debate a participant asked the following question from president Musharraf & anyone who advocates the general is free to answer it. I add my own part in it.

He said: the unfortunate events started from 12:00 afternoon (though it had already started on 11 May midnight when two were killed) & it went on till night that day.

The president is a father figure of whole nation. While president was watching his songs being brutally killed on streets for whole day what was stopping him from picking up the phone, call Sindh CM & governor & ask what the hell is going on in Karachi, from calling Cor-Commander & ask him if his good ass is comfortable seeing nation’s son butchered like this . . . & do something immediately.

He didn’t waste a minute appearing on GEO to apologize when his ever-ready-for-evil-work Punjab police attacked the TV station. What he was doing during all this period? ”

In my opinion the president has every right to use full proof methods for his security but if thats causing inconvenience to others he needs to do some alternate.

This is supposed to be 21st century & there were supposed to be ten ways to communicate with people around the country.

And great link to that column by Jawed Chuadry MB, he couldn’t have said it better. Thanks for sharing it with us. And yes, I agree, as I said, its not the VIP arrangements that irks me, but if they could only be made with a little more consideration for everyone else in the city, that would be very kind of the President. But alas, that is just something that not part of our culture.

  16. Pkhan (unregistered) on May 26th, 2007 @ 7:32 pm

Its very easy to blame, but just look at the traffic picture,,,,how many Lane they have created in a may be two/three lane Rd, Blame it on VIP or People’s impatients? We are a third world Country and InsHallah we will remain the same as long as people do not respect each other, on the road, in writting, or talking.Nation are build not COPIED from the west and lets not compare every thing from the Western Democracies,We might not survive our ETHNIC fight.

    Dear City Government,

I believe you’re biased against Mushy. You offered a deposed CJP helicopter, but poor General Mushy had to ride in a car, just like elected/beloved leader so people could see leader’s glimpse. Sometimes we forget Army Generals don’t need peoples approval so please don’t force them into it.

  18. MB (unregistered) on May 26th, 2007 @ 7:53 pm

Brother you are very right about the point you made about the lane. But meray bhai it doesn’t push the original question out of window which is why the heck the VIP’s do some rehm-o-karan on gareeb awaam.

pehlay ye batain aap ne JC ka article padha ki nahi ? us se aap kia sumjhey ?

good point neena I wonder why dont they offer general musharaff with a chopper. A chopper can take him easily to his destination without the hassle of this traffic blockade. I dont think we have helipads in karachi but some special arrangment can be made for the president to land in a nearby open area

  20. Petarian_88 (unregistered) on May 26th, 2007 @ 10:56 pm

i guess mush fels more secure being surrounded by hundreds of body guards…..

this is what saved him from the attempts on his life earlier.

in a chopper an assin would just need one missile and he would be history!

Mush has gone MAD & Blind.

iam afraid we will only c the last of him when:

he will not go out alive. he is in love with himself:))

you mean to… *cough* *cough*. *grin*

Bhai the way general prepared a team of his enemies by taking panga with everyone in Pakistan to demonstrate his love for bush, it’s damn easy to hit a chopper. Remember how Zia was targetted? :-)

“A chopper can take him easily to his destination without the hassle of this traffic blockade”
    Haha. Funnie!.
Btw, so that no one can ever say that Mushy doesnt get any Love, Every previous holder of power has done the same.
…..Meanwhile in India, the Prime-Ministers wife has to wait for her white-maruti to show up.¬†God forbid¬†if that ever happened in Pakistan, looking¬†@ Sehba Mush, she’ll probably Devour¬†everyone responsible!
& if u think its only the wives, check this out
In one breezy morning as I walk past a home still lost in wonder as to how Delhi has managed to retain its glorious heritage where its residents breathe clean air and move around freely, I am asked politely to step on the pavement while the gate swings open and the guard holding a walkie talkie springs to action. Slowly a plain-looking white car with tinted windows comes out of the home and stops on the main road to take a right turn. It has to wait for the traffic coming from the opposite side to clear before it can move. Now listen to this: the man in the car is former prime minister of India Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He’s given no special protocol although he lives in the VVIP area and enjoys all the perks. He must wait his turn for the traffic to clear.

I live there, at Cannt, in the line of the army house, where Musharraf stays when ever he comes to Khi. I hate it when the police asks me questions of who I’ am and where am I going. They have even frisk searched me a couple of times. Frisked me because the only crime that I have done is that I live in an apartment there and am an ordinary citizen!!

May all of them burn in hell!
