KESC complaint call center

Everyone in town is ranting about the long, dark hours in the prime of heat thanks to KESC. Everytime there is a power cut, just try and call 118 (KESC complaint call center) and you’ll get the idea how people are desperate to find out how long will the cut off last.

I’m sure it must be very difficult to handle furious callers especially when the electricity cuts off in the middle of the night.

My brother is a regular caller at the service and yesterday, I decided to call them to find the schedule of load-shedding and plan the bedtime (read bad-time) accordingly.

The call center agent was very polite and went on the explain in a very polite and patient tone that how KESC was dependent on WAPDA till 11pm and only after that can they judge if the electricity will be cut off or not, depending on load and reserves.

The conversation tone, politeness, patience to all the questions, and letting the consumer aware of the entire situation, not rushing to close the call and no hesitation to pick up calls is a commendable effort by KESC which must be appreciated in all the wretchedness that’s being suffered.

A “Good News” for all karachiites. KESC has increased 20 Paisas/unit from Feburary without any prior notice. Is it not funny that we just discovered that??

Somebody in Lahore told me that Wapda is doing load shedding 3 times a day for 30 minutes each. The timing are known to everybody and 90 minutes is the total time they are without electricity each day.
Compare that with Karachi. I wonder why despite being the commercial hub of the country and contributing major chunk of tax revenue, why people here are being made to suffer at least 5 to 6 hours every day, and that too at random.
    MQM where are you??

I also wonder why MQM has not raised this issue with government (at least publically) when it claims to be the guardian of the rights of this city’s people.
They can readily protest outside press club for non-issues, at least they should try something meaningful for the citizens for a change. Might help them to support their dwindling image too. Say what??

@Axio: dunno ure sources, but from what ive experienced, the electricity goes twice a day for 1.5/2 hrs each. (Thats a total of 3-4 hours).

But the good thing is that the folks of the area know the scheduled time & can plan/manage accordingly.

In khi, like everything else, jab marzi ai loadshedding shuroo!

Pictures taken this morning – This KESC unit is continuously being ‘robbed off’ by the friendly neighborhood for recharging generators. To my utmost surprise, today was a entire fleet of generators being recharged. I could not help myself and took a picture to appreciate it later during the 5-6 hours when there is no electricity at my home.
