Is it only me or everyone is experiencing this?. When I come on the main KMB page I don’t see the right side bar. Only when I am in a post I can see it. Can someone please fix it?

    Thanks

This post shows how indifferent we are to our surroundings. 226 people died in last 24 hours in our city and we are talking about poetry. Bravo !! I feel sorry for the people of Karachi.

Is it any wonder than that this city of lights is in darkness – more and more of the so-called elite and nouvaeu riche have taken to extravagance and selfish indulgences and escapades and imposing their sense of decorum while scores of this city dwellers are mourning death and misery??? This is not the darkness due to electricity power failure but the darkness in the hearts and consciousness – a darkness of the age of Jahiliyya. The injustices are visible all around.

It was funny what I saw today police mobile was escorting KESC truck. You can imagine how people are frustrated with KESC.

shafiq, actually your comment is very apt and poignant.

I was just thinking along these lines recently
when I spoke to my brother in Karachi. He, his wife and some freinds were on their way to attend the Karachi American School spring ball and I had just finished reading some depressing articles about how life for the common man in Pakistan is getting more and more difficult what with even the prices of basic goods spiraling out of control.

And I simply could not help but think that this is almost like Nero playing away on his fiddle while Rome goes up in flames around him.

Every day we have power riots, looming energy crisis with no plans to resolve it in forseeable future, inflation in excess of 20% (i am flabbergasted at governments claim of inflation of 10% only. Salman shah should try to buy some tomatoes from some hard earned money), total blackout of Balochistan where every day people are being abducted, talibanization in Islamabad, attack by Nato forces in our territory killing innocent citizens (collateral damage), murderer acting as governor and dacoit acting as Chief Minister, baton wielding vigilantes enforcing their own writ and when more than 200 ppl are killed in a single day of rain the metroblog talks about poetry; honestly speaking, if I am asked to invest in such a country without telling me that her name, I wouldnot invest a single penny. I don’t how can the government claim that its attracting foreign investment. The foreign investor must be an ass as even the PM has kept his money safely deposited abroad.

Original-faisal, nothing hurts so much as the timing of it all. Edhi and other welfare services are still discovering dead bodies after dead bodies. This tragedy is still in progress and scores are yet to be buried …… and some folks want to “let yourself loose”!!?? While “Nero playing away on his fiddle” – the constituency of Edhi keeps growing …..

they’d been very vocal abt. recent political crisis and Karachi killings on that fateful day, but when 200 ppl die in this very city we dont see even a word regarding this tragic events.

Infact if those ppl’d died at the hands of some political party than they WILL DEFINITELY WAG THEIR TAILS (i mean move their pen or fingers across their keyboards).

I havent seen this kind of indifferent ppl. in my whole life. They are worst than the animals, at least animals mourn their types.

I can just hope that owner of T2F would have cancelled the program after hearing news of casualties or even reading this blog. If yes then I think it should also be highlited on this blog otherwise Mohsin Hamid was right in his novel about darn attitude of elite class.

A/c to governet, deal toll is 66 while BBC and Edhi sources say its 200+. Why the governer is being a stupid and giving an insane figure? Now altaf bhai would come out in his Bhondi awaz and talk crap and say “Ye MQM k khilaf sazish hay” while MMA asusual will perform its Dharna on Toti Phooti Roads.

Mey tu kahta houn k MQM,MMA military in sab lo golimar k kisi chotay ghar me chor do aur wahan koi bijli paani na do, tab inhey apni naani yaad aye gi.

I do see that the owner has formed a trend of using this board as free advirtisment space for her business. We all want the bucks back from where we invested and no one wants you to close your business, but Maybe if you do something regarding the situtaion in the city and loss of innocent lives do a (genuine) charity event for the surviving poor or at least do what our Leaders cant do, and mourn for those ppl and express your sorrow in some way. All the people in the city can at least do this thru their medium of work somehow by writing, voicing , donating and at least respecting the sorrowful loss of life. This indeed is not a time to post free ads enticing people stating ‘Don’t let yesterday’s rain get you down head on over to the impromptu open mike session today and let it loose’. It just doesn’t seem right. Sorry If I offend someone but that’s just my two cents. If you show you care about lives more than your investments You will surely win some genuine well wishes. And belive me in life thats all what really matter , take it from someone who knows. Your post just does not seem right at this time. At least you are fortunate enough to have a platform and space to express yourself. DO whatever you can to do within your means.

Another thing is that all the ‘MEN’ here sitting and posting can actually do some volenteer work. As a girl what I can do the most is donate money and I will but man power is also needed in this situation right? No offense to any one.

I have mentioned this earlier but now this T2F thing is getting on nerves. Don’t make this blog an official announcement platform!

Since past month it seems like that Karachi ends up at T2F..

  20. Arsalaan Haleem (unregistered) on June 25th, 2007 @ 4:28 pm

Nisha, when you say that ‘as a girl, I can only donate money’, well, you can do that, that is, if you want to DO JUST THAT. But if you want to volunteer, then you can.

Just contact either of these organisations through their websites:

    http://www.zindagitrust.org
    http://www.thecitizensfoundation.org

  21. nisha (unregistered) on June 25th, 2007 @ 5:27 pm

Thanks Arsalaan but I don’t live in Pakistan. I know about these foundations and whenever I can I do help out with them, but in these situations I really cannot do as much as I want and that makes me feel helpless. Hence the furustation.

    Nisha, you are most welcome.

ZT and TCF have branch offices in US, UK and Canada as well as ME. If you do live in these countries/region, then why don’t you approach them for volunteer work.

Both these organisations do a lot of variety programs in US and UK. So, approach them and register yourself as a volunteer.

I agree. Everyone should go out and do something. EVERYONE. As for me, I don’t know what to do, I am only the master of feeling wrong and being suspicious.

But I have a very clear vision for EVERYONE ELSE – that includes YOU, yes YOU, not ME – and what YOU should do. Just ask me!

Or, no, wait! I am puking in self-disgust for a minute.

… There, all clear. Now let me tell YOU what YOU should do…
