Ye gali hamarey gharun ka sehan hai

http://karachi.metblogs.com/archives/images/2007/08/augmb/Nazimabad-thumb.JPGhttp://karachi.metblogs.com/archives/images/2007/08/augmb/map-thumb.JPGYou would be amazed to know how easily one can grab a piece of land in Karachi. Now i wonder why Cowasjee keeps on criticizing KBCA. A similar pic got the benefit of the security but today when I was searching for a UBL BANK branch in Nazimabad i came across this near Intermediate board office. Under GOD knows which law of lawless-land someone has put this gate in a lane that is otherwise a normal gali for pedestrians( even vehicles can move). They have written in a KING style manner that its their sehan. Bravo!!. Will any newspaper point this out to concerned authorities ?. The map points out one of the two possible exact locations of this gate. I am damn sure the relevant gov body knows about this gate.

Since the cops are completed failed to catch the culprits so the ppl have no choice other then to put a gate for their safety, but the pedestrian should be allowed to move accross.

    Joke of the day :)

“people who are running the government are not aliens …they are even normal pakistanis like us”

I dont want to give you explanation of your funny comments as it will start a never ending debate.

But to me it seems like you are not normal.

I may be wrong here but to me it seems like that in the picture its not the front side that is visible but the back portion of all the houses (on both sides). It looks like a picture of what we used to call the “Gandi Gali”. Why this name because it was where every house used to throw their garbage. The town planners used these kind of lanes to create open spaces between houses. Normally no pedestrian or vehicles used these lanes as they where filled with garbage. Only thieves used to use it to scale the back walls of homes. With the current law and order situation, it is better to close it off completly. Also, it it is in an area which is near the KATCHI ABADI whose residents follow no law except that of guns and drugs.

MB, do you know how far is PAHAAR GANJ from this area? I guess, a 5-10 minutes walk. And what will you call the area behind blocks P, Q, R, S, and T of N.Nazimabad? I think, to you it may look like well built home/bungalows.

This depends of what you call locality. For me its this mohalla that i was/am talking about.

these type of gali passes in all the blocks including “C”, “A” of north nazimabad , the reason residents are forced to do this is because jamadaars dump their garbage here and burn them, similarly no civic bodies visit these gali’s to collect garbage. These galis do not have any roads as they are cemeneted so usually cars normally donot pass through them and they easily become safe heaven for drug addicts and criminals.

So to protect these gali’s from garbage and stopping criminals to find safe heaven in them the residents have done this and i think if government fails here then they are right in breaking the law in this particular case. Atleast their children can play within this area instead of letting it filled with garbage.

    Good post MB:

If you rememebr it all started back in 90’s when our great ruling partners placed heavy iron gates all over Karachi and for that the residents had to pay money from their pockets.

Later those gates were all removed and subsequently sold to Kabari’s for scrap use.

North Nazimabad Block A is know for its gates which are mostly controlled by Resident / Neigbourhood Care or something like that … refer to the post few months back when a group of thugs were arrested by CPLC.

Security is still the biggest issue and in the name of security of they closed it, I dont blame them.

I think MB is right on this one, this is the seed of developing the same LAL MASJID mentally. Law is not meant to be exercised by public members. Muhallay Walas cant be allowed to put Gates, barriers and check posts. It is not a bloody civil war situation, where every tom dick and harry is allowed to have their own militias.

Regardless of how bad the police maybe, these kinda activities shall be a crushed with a heavy hand.

When it comes to life … nothing is more important, law gaya bhaar main, if the local authority (cops) does not care about your life then why should we care about the law? anyway its not a big deal to put on gates for security reasons, as long as you are not messing up with others.

I know it doesnt looks good but then again life is more important.

@MB, I am wondering that its the first time that I am opposing you and not agreed to what you say :)

while i agree that we need to put up such barriers for our security..the words are just too hilarious..ghar ka sehan?! an entire gali at that! it’s a prize pic!

Well this situation is not new!
I can qoute the Example of My locality !

F.B.Area Block 13 (Gulberg to NAsirabad)

if you are on a vehicle ! there is only one path to cross the block from the inner streets ! rest all have these barriers installed!

Many among you have missed the actual point i was interested in highlighting. My point was they could have written something related to security so others understand but how the hell it became their sehan ?

Calling it their sehan takes the debate to a completely side which is taking over a government property by tactics.
