“Shanaakht – The Identity Project”

shanaakht.gifTo celebrate 60 years of our nation, The Citizens Archive of Pakistan is organizing the festival “Shanaakht – The Identity Project”. This will be a multimedia and visual arts festival which will unfold over 4 days between the 11th and the 14th of August 2007 at the Arts Council in the heart of old Karachi. The purpose of the Shanaakht project is to document the incredible experiences of the partition generation so that future Pakistanis may understand the roots of their identity through tangible exhibits, which will bring history to life.

Events will include a photography exhibit by Amean J and other well-known photographers, theatrical performances by Sheema Kermani as well as Anwar Maqsood and Moin Akhtar, discussions about Pakistan’s history with Ayesha Tammy Haq, an interactive art exhibit created by VASL featuring 16 prominent Pakistani artists, audio/video booths for recording personal narratives, murals depicting Pakistan’s history, and much more, including musical performances by upcoming bands.

All theatrical performances taking place in the closed auditorium are free but with limited seats. You can pick up your passes at the Arts Council on the day of the performance between 11:00 am and 5:00 pm. Passes are available on a first come, first served basis. A buss service will also run for the festival visitors on the 12th and 14th. For more information, including a complete detailed festival schedule visit the Citizen’s Archive website.
