Hitman got it right. The area on the left of the picture is Central Muslimabad (UC-2, SITE Town). I’ve taken this picture from the Pakistan Quarter Bridge on Manghopir Road. Towards the right of the picture you can see the under-construction Lyari Expressway, and in the centre of the picture is the Lyari River.
On a side note, I find it amazing how none of our usual “ranters-about-The-Real-Karachi” guessed where this picture was taken. Heck, they didn’t even TRY to guess! Is it because they don’t really know what and where their so-called “Real Karachi” is, and that, they merely rant about such stuff on KMB in a lame attempt to bash the authors of this blog? Hmmmmm?

I meant to say it is the Love Lane bridge inaugurated by the beloved (NOT!) Mustafa Jatoi in 70’s, but wasn’t sure. 35 saal may kyaa buraa haal ho gayaa hae. Until that bridge was built, there was a low lying road that connected Pakistan Quarter side to SITE. Thanks to the bridge built during Z.A. Bhutto’s time, traveling to SITE from Garden East / West was much easier during and after the rain.
We should give credit to ZA Bhutto where it is due, though overall I dislike him and hate her daughter, Budnazir: an ugly joke with Pakistanis.
Walking on that bridge in the mornings after sehri, so many of us kids fantasized about having roads on either side of the river and boats in the river. Well, it took 35 years for someone to accomplish that. Better late than never.
Thanks for putting the picture of the bridge. It has been ages I have been in that area. BTW, in regards to your article in Daily Times, please don’t folow cheap ass Bombay walas in writing ‘d’ for hard ‘ray’. Writing ‘dehaari’ or ‘dehaaRi’ would have been fine.

I was there yesterday to do a story — Central Muslimabad has been flooded by the Lyari River again. Details here: http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp?page=2007/08/23/story_23-8-2007_pg12_10
