clamping down on defence!

This should come as good news to quite a few people here, so here goes!

“The Senate Standing Committee on Defence on Friday recommended imposition of a ban on the development of further residential schemes or lands within the Karachi Cantonment limits, according to news received here. The ban will also apply to the Defence Housing Authority (DHA), Karachi.”

Someone has finally taken note that these areas in Karachi are the worst designed in the whole city and subject to disaster every time nature decides to come down on us.

Was the move justified?

This was my lecture to someone up there. For the record: i live in a military based locality now.

Defence is indeed the worst hit. I lived in Defence for 7 years. Back in late 2001 a fire broke out at my place. It was teh first time i realised: we had NO fire brigades accessible. or public hospital.

the recent rains highlighted the demarcation: clifton and other areas well insulted last year fell under the CDGK and have thi year proved considerably less water logging, if at all.

While DEFENCE: areas built by what they themselves believe to be “the most organised sector in the country” has proved its own folly: they are organised to the extent that the entire Phases 1 through 8 have NO nullahs to pass water. that is no drainage system. Being Defence they are beyond the CDGK. the entire phases 1 through 8 still have just one fire brigade station which was made back when clifton was all the name and hardly anything defence. public hospitals are still none.

Its DEfence. the military. the organised. and no health and sanitation. Bravo
