Amazing find by Doc_Kazi on flickr! This was back in 1957, and i think this is where Sheraton now stands as i heard it was built on the site of a previous hotel.

Amazing find Indeed… The Sheraton Karachi was constructed after demolishing the Palace Hotel which was itself an architectural landmark of Karachi, with a typical dome just above the entrance. This hotel was probably just opposite the CM house gate.

I remember the palace hotel as a schoolboy in the 1960s, it was a beautiful old hotel and should never have been knocked down. This is a beautiful picture though.
With our penchant for destroying everything, we have become a nation who does not know or care to preserve its history or architechture.
Shame!

This hotel stood in the lane behind the PIDC buildingwhere the pan shops are.It had a famous disco/bar–aghas tavern—a favourite of the then “jet set” including Wahid Murad. The place survived i think till the early 70’s.
