Ampi’s is Alive!

I had forgotten that little place that has seen more seats in it’s seats than most other places around town. Old fashioned and almost historical, Ampi’s is perhaps best known to people of the generation older than ours, who used to swing by Metropole Hotel for that quick dance gig and hop over to Ampi’s for quality cuisine and cold coffee. Aah yes, Ampi’s is still around, alive and well, and adds to the superbly thrilling day I have had!

The dark and dingy place has class, a frontdoor branded with Shehzan’s Fruit Squashes and Juices, and two 1/2-tonne split unit airconditioners that compete against a hot, sunny day in an almost-futile attempt to chill it’s small hall.

I find myself there with some chatty company and my order of Chicken Cheese Burger and Fresh Lime 7up… After a hearty meal and lots of memories (and bantar crazy enough to give you laughter therapy!) I am glad that Ampi’s is still around and that place ‘just around the corner’!

Yo ! I wish you hadnt mentioned the place here.
    Its my secret cozy place!

The food is great, its not crowded, and the atmosphere is the great 70s style Cafe De Khan type

It is a place existed since before we use to bunk last few classes at Cantt Public School and run to reach there before lunch hour to grab the scrumptious juicy club sand-which-ez :) and bowl of russian salad qll under Rs. 20.00, and there were no taxes on food at that time

Reminds me of my youth – those halcyon days when a lady could actually ask you out for coffee and tarts on a nice summer evening.

This Afghan met me, her father had been one of the sidekicks of Zahir Shah. She was lonely but beautiful, with the fringe coming to just over her eyes. She asked me out and who was I to refuse?

Starbucks ? Costa Coffee? Second Cup ? I have done my rounds but I would still go back to Ampi’s and a lovely evening there.
