Amin Gulgee on Karachi

Pakistan Paindabad featured an interview with Amin Gulgee, the celebrated metal sculptor from Karachi while he visited Delhi recently.

Amin attributes Karachi with ‘energy’ more than once while appreciating the history Lahore correctly boasts about. In somewhat debatable words, he says:

Which city is classier – Karachi or Lahore?

There is no comparison. Lahore has old monuments. In Karachi, the only antique things are its British monuments. In fact, we encourage every friend from abroad landing in Karachi to visit Lahore. The beauty really lies there. But I can’t survive without Karachi. I need its energy. Lahore, all said and done, is just another Punjabi city.

I love racist artists…we need to give an artistic look to racism.

Lets put an end to this political incorrectness about racism.

well I Kinda agree with him!

This year I was on my first trip to Punjab! actually first (domestic) out of Karachi!!!

I couldn’t picture my self living in any of those cities! All said and done! Lahore and Pindi seemed same! ( to me atleast)

But Karachi is different ! and I too can’t survive without it !

    On a light note !

Which city is classier – Karachi or Lahore?

Let’s face it- “classier” is wrong?

The question should have been phrased like this:
Which city is “crappier” – Karachi or Lahore?

    And the answer is Karachi.

My first impression of Lahore are when I stepped out of the train station at 5 in the morning.

Just outside, by the road – was –lo and behold a woman in her 40’s crapping in view of the whole wide world!!!!

That was the defining difference between Karachi and Lahore for me.

I don’t worry about my survival when I am out of KHI (my hometown). As soon as I enter KHI, I worry about getting mugged or shot, every sec.

But on AminGuljee, I once heard this guy talk, and i thought…too much drugs intake in early life. But then which creative artist has done anything without drugs (yes, inlcude Dr. Mohd Iqbal in this class too)

***** That is such a BS. People are shitting and pissing all over Karachi right in the public view. One scene that is permanently stuck in my mind is of a little nung-dhaRang kid doing poopi right outside this so called fancy tailoring shop Moosa Jee in this so called fancy (slum in reality) place called DHA. This is about year and a half ago.

Guys, cut down the population growth and enforce higher minimum ages for marriage for both men and women. And forget about fighting over silly things like Karachi vs. Lahore. They are both shit places.

    @ Balma
You hit the nail every single time. But then again you are taking away the only entertainment they have. What would you tell to the girls sitting at home, not worrying about her career but when to get married.

I guess people have stopped looking at the brighter side !!!

No Wonder the society is going downhill!

Fingers are Seperate and different but linked to Palm, yet they differ, each has its own individual function, when combined they form a punch., strong enough to make adversary feel the pain.

Karachi is PUNCH :) – ANTI GOVT VIOLANCE starts from Karachi, and shakes up the system.

Rest are all fingers – :) acting as cowardly Birdies in their own way.

Futuristic Ideas and projects are stolen away from Karachi, robbed of the 88% of GNP, Capital STOLEN away, and yet it is Single CITY of Pakistan, area and population wise.

All other TOWNS with urban radius are not more then 20 KM

The only thing they cannot ROB and STEAL from Karachi is the “BIGGEST DARYA” Bigger then Ravi :) is with Karachi and cannot be CANNALED UPTO Their doorstep.

And Yet people call ameen gulgee as Racist ? :) :)

    @Jamal Shamsi

    >>And Yet people call ameen gulgee as Racist

I was not serious when i called him racist. it was sarcasm, bro.

I look at pretty panjabi gals, and i think, how can one straight man afford to be racist against this race? It would be my loss :D

I’m thoroughly amused by this ‘Lahore VS. Karachi’ sentiment. I never imagined my fellow countrymen could be so trivial.

The one comment which amused me most was, “Why aren’t Lahoris obsessed about Karachi (as Karachites are about Lahore?)” :)

With all due respect (I do not know anyone) who is obsessed about Lahore :) But yes, Lahori people are simpler & sweeter than their sophisticated (read: pretentious) Karachi counteparts.

Lahori girls are more generous. They help needy people more than the girls of Karachi.

You call Karachi girls, girls? :)

The difference between the two cities is that Lahore is devoid of paan-peek pollution, imaginery podina-baghs and shrill high-pitch voices which don’t believe in walking the talk.

In Lahore you cannot resist olging a passing girl. In Karachi the sight of a girl (if that you call a curve-less emaciated figure) spoils your day.

Oh, Karachi can also do with some trees to provide some colour to that drabness that is called a city.

Im new to the website, and this is my 1st ever post. So plz dont mind if something goes wrong and feel free to correct me…NEED AN ENCOURAGEMENT THOUGH…!!!!

Amin Guljee has always been a discriminatory celeb..Whenever you see him on TV he speaks something stupid. Why not rage a protest against the man and cast him off into exile to Lahore…
