Disabling Answering Service on your landline

PTCL has quietly activated answering service on its phone lines. I called various places in Karachi today for official purposes and ended up at listening to the answering service prompt.

If your home or office phone number gets a bill of Rs 1,400 per month or more, your line has been crowned with this unsolicited ‘facility’. Of course it is not necessary for PTCL to tell you how to retrieve the messages that your dear callers have deposited in your mailbox by paying Rs 2.01 each time your phone number was engaged and they were presented with an prompt in English language!

To disable the recent gift aimed at turning each engaged tone generation into a sweet little Rs 2.01 for PTCL, get yourself acquainted with the commands that manage this service. Please disable this service from your phone line and save your callers a few hundred therwise-wasted rupees a month!

Here is the complete procedure for all kinds of Call Transfers/Forwarding.

1) call Forwading Unconditional/Immediate

To activate
*21*Telephone number#

To deactivate
*21#

2) For Busy

To activate:
*09*Telephone number#

To deactivate
*09#

3) For No Reply

To activate:
*06*Telephone number#

To deactivate
*06#

The KMB author’s IQ is going down by the minute. We see same intellectual decline as the societies that lack freedom…may I suggest Pakistan as an example? Pretty soon everyone here will loose respect for everyone of the authors, if they haven’t already,…and then authors will have nothing but a bunch of petty comments everyday they’ll have to run after like dogs to delete…

Awab Alwi is just one such example…and now Mansoor has joined him…

What are you talking about ? I m glad to have this service. I am in US and when ever I call Pakistan, if some body does not answer then I always want to leave voice message because of 12 hrs difference. If caller does not want to incur charges, he could drop after few bells and try again but please don’t tell people it is an evil. And by the way why do you bother if it costs 2 Rs to a caller. This is a caller responsibility to take care of this thing. It also tells much about Pakistani society, here 2 Rs are more important than some one else time. Do you have any idea how frustrated it is when you want to convey some message to some one and you have to keep trying till that person is home or awake. Very disappointing attitude.

The problems with the PTCL voice mail “service” are as follows:

    1) It doesn’t wait for a few rings to go through. The moment your call gets connected, the answering machine thingum kicks in.

    2) There’s no way you can retreive the messages left on your voice mailbox.

I would like to have SIP telephone sets rather land line.

Would like to learn network ppl like TEmm bhai itself, zee and others to tell about using Internet on SIP phones.

on a side note, topic made by TeeEmm so obviously better than previous topics. :-)
