ANP leader shot dead in Karachi

Awami National Party (ANP) Sindh Vice-President, Fazlur Rehman Akakhel, was shot dead in Karachi at about 4p.m. Reports of ethnic clashes are trickling in from the Pakhtoon majority areas in the city, such as Sohrab Goth, Banaras, etc. Armed men riding a motorcycle sprayed bullets on Kakakhel near Sohrab Goth. Though this news has already resulted in city-wide traffic jams.

A word of caution, please stay safe and preferably indoors. It would be recommended to not leave the office until the traffic thins down and it is safe to do so. Karachi please stay safe

All the shops in G-e-I Block 8, have been shut down.

This is almost an eerie silence in our area.

Stay safe people and God help us.

I believe the only way we can ensure peace and less street voilence and crime is to make gun ownership legal. Meaning people should have access to guns just like they buy cell phones (with just your NICOP). Problem is that some thugs have guns and rest of the people can only shit and piss in their pants when confronted by these goons. Only this deterent can work. People should take their property rights seriously and if Govt. is unable to ptovide that, it should not be a hindrance in people asserting their property rights.

If not Guns, people should have easy access to Mace and Pepper spray at least and start using it. Someone has to dare. There has to be some fear in the heart of the other guy that a bullet might be waiting for him if he destroys or plunders someone else’s private property. Enough is Enough.

I hate to see people giving up, becoming paranoid and shitting and pissing in their pants just because of some goons/hooligans have guns and they threaten everybody.

good lord! Theres Havoc in the city. Apparently, the former chief minister’s nephew has been kidnapped and his car hijacked by a suicide bomber. They’re touring defence and clifton looking for a suitable place to bomb. defence and clifton are under high alert.

A friend just has reported that Sh-Faisal from FTC to Karsaz is open and free. Khadda Market had some severe firing resulting in a sudden shutter down

    @Faraz and Teeth Maestro..

Hey fellas..thnx a lot for the info, so basically i guess that the paper tommorow is not cancelled ??
i friend of mine told me at 6 pm that the paper tommorow is cancelled but i saw nothing as such on the im not sure what to do

and i’d be coming on a bike from block 1, clifton…
my route would include BILAWAL HOUSE, PHASE 1 D.H.A, KALAAPUL, SHARAH-FAISAL, DRIGH ROAD, GULISTAN JOHAR, NIPA, and finally Karachi University…so is it safe to proceed tommorow to my paper ??

  12. Raza (unregistered) on February 6th, 2008 @ 9:52 pm

I can vouch for Sh-e-Faisal being clear from Nursery till Airport. So, there *should* be no problems for you tomorrow.

  13. Teeth Maestro (unregistered) on February 6th, 2008 @ 10:04 pm

I believe Sh-Faisal has construction going on underneath the FTC bridge -was stuck in it yesterday (on a holiday) from Jinnah Hospital to FTC for over one hour as one lane was only open caterign teo the four name traffic buildup.

I think today we are having the same disaster which was compounded by the ANP incident.

Everything after FTC pull is all clear. Can someone confirm the construction is still taking place

I was in Bath Island, Clifton near Teen Talwaar when the news broke. My home is in Block 10 Gulshan-e-Iqbal, beside NIPA. My family called me and told me to wait for a couple of hours atleast before trying to come back home. So I waited at a cousin’s place in Defence Phase 6. I left Defence around 10 15 pm and was home in approximately 20 minutes.

I took the Korangi Crossing route to Shahrah-e-Faisal and from there to Karsaz to Hasan Square to NIPA. No problems whatsoever, and traffic was light. A few restuarants were open, along with a marriage lawn hosting a party. I hope everyone got home safely.

The majority of bad happenings happens at Al-Asif. Most of ppl got their mobile snatched and some reported money theft also. The biggest amount I heard is 16K.

after the news over radio FM 105 i choose to venture the city, started at maghrib from Clifton bridge met crowded traffic as usual at Metropole to FTC turned left in sindhi muslim nothing unusual, then to shahrea quaideen all the way upto Numaish then to garden onward to lasbella golimar, north nazimabad, to mukka chowk to hasan square landed at Kaybees at 8.45PM

Troubled spot BUT under control was Lasbella, Essa nagri & old sabzi mandi.

Other areas like sohrab goth, banaras etc am not sure about.

FROM being a religous zealot to a racist hate monger, while DoCTOR shows us his real face, Muttahida has gained a lot of ground in the traditional Hazara / Punjabi stronghold of Azam Basti and Mehmoodabad. Traditionally it was a safe seat for Marwat, but it seems that a major portion of his community has abandoned him and is favouring Muttahida and have established MQM election offices in the heart of the locality. Thats how you make bridges!

The Al-qaeda and Taliban sympathisers want to fan the ethnic hatred again, to them ANP is as Kafir as MQM or PPP but they will not succeed.

You want to wipe all Gots and want to have Karachi to yourself? How shameful. Your ancestors were given shelter in Karachi after 1947. You don’t own Karachi. You are just like Pathans who came from somewhere else so shut your mouth. Sindhis are the only people native to this province and they don’t seems to have a problem with anyone. Their hearts are big. If it was up to others you all still be in Gujrat getting screwed by BJP. So be thankful and gracious that you have a place to live.

    @ Rashid Hasan
I second your opinion bro, I ‘ve been supporter of pro-guns for so long. I truly believe that it’s our birth right given by Allah Subhanotala & the constitution (if there is left any) to protect our lives, our loved ones & belongings.
It’s an undeniable fact that the government (law enforcement agencies) has failed miserably to protect its citizens & in most of the cases they are directly responsible for all the law less ness in the society. Now in this situation, it would be very realistic & practical that every one should be held responsible for their own safety. For some time it would be like wild west but eventually the miscreants would realize that they are not the only one who has the death tickets & they can get the same in return of what they offer. I won’t complain at all if I am allowed to do what ever I can to protect my self & my loved ones. I bet I ‘ll take few with me for sure if caught in such situation Khudanakhuasta. At least I wont have that sense of helplessness & self pity that I couldn’t do any thing to protect my self.

@All the A** Holes who always involve MQM for every mess that happen any where in Pakistan. You fools, get a life, people like you are the reason of existence of MQM. Your narrow minded, biased & hate full thinking will always provide justification & rationale for movements like MQM.
If you really disagree with them, then come with your alternative, provide counter solution to the problems, do some thing to create unity, think like a muslim & pakistani. Dont call your self proud Panjabi or Pathan or any thing you call your self. But I am sure its too much to ask, we never were a true nation, not even true muslims.
    what a waste……….
