http://karachi.metblogs.com/archives/images/2008/02/na-243-thumb.jpgI hope this Election Watch Series is not getting boring for many, but I think its relevant for us to be aware of who is fighting these elections. The fifth seat of the election watch series is NA-243 Karachi V. We have previously covered NA-239, NA-240, NA-241 & NA-242

Election watch on KMB is a short series of posts where look at various National Assembly seats in Karachi, we will simply short list the most prominent candidates contesting for elections and also take a quick glance at what transpired from the the 2002 elections to see the trends. Naturally we would like to see the metroblog readership also to cast your own vote, If you were going out to vote for one of these candidates who would you vote for?.

Take the poll

Free Poll by Blog Flux2008 Elections: Total number of Registered Voters 333,290 (194,548 Male & 138,742 Female). The three candidates up for elections are:

  1. Abdul Waseem (MQM)
  2. Zafar A. Siddiqui Adv (PPP)
  3. Farah Awan Advocate (PML-N)

2002 Elections: In the 2002 elections there were 250,670 Registered Voters in NA-243 of which 37.5% polled that day (94,001). The candidates were

  1. Sultan Ahmed Khan (MQM) – 62245
  2. M. Saleemuddin Qureshi Adv. (MMA) – 13105
  3. Anwar A. Khan Yousufzai (PPPP) – 8391
  4. M. Iftikhar Ahmed Bhatti (ST) – 6911
  5. Badar Iqbal (PML-Q) – 2580

Prediction:MQM again can be predicated to take this seat as the 2002 elections was a landslide victory for MQM compared to MMA leading by a handsome 50,000 votes. As per my guesstimate MQM is 4-1 for the seats up till now, with only NA-239 going towards PPP. Hence the predicted winner should be Abdul Waseem of MQM

We need help in identifying the popular locations within these electoral seats, and would appreciate any assistance from our readers so that these seat locations are better understood then some confusing roman numerical
