Welcome to the ‘New’ KMB

Welcome to the new and improved Karachi Metroblog website. Hats off to the team in L.A. which has been tirelessly working for the past few months to get this new system installed and running. The new system meant an entire overhaul of the front-end and the back-end of the metroblogging network moving from a buggy Movable type engine to a more robust WordPress interface, in this migration there is a remote chance that things might be ‘a little broken’ but don’t worry the expert team of designers are hard at work to make this a smooth and error free transition. Expect a few changes on the website and probably the most important change would be the requirement for all commentators to register on the site before writing a comment, hope it does not deter our regular posters from being a part of the community. Rest is all the same, simply enjoy your time interacting with Karachi

Now the big question – do you like the new design?

Its good, specially the registered users’ feature. But I failed to understand why on earth the CAPS r not allowed in the username???

  6. Adnan Siddiqi (adnansiddiqi) on March 4th, 2008 @ 11:07 am

@hitman, I think CAPS are not allowed anywhere in username to make user’s life easier when he tries to log in? Yes you can select whatever you want in your alias.

  7. IUnknown (iunknown) on March 4th, 2008 @ 11:08 am

  8. Raja Islam (rajaislam) on March 4th, 2008 @ 11:37 am

  9. HITMAN (hitman) on March 4th, 2008 @ 12:14 pm

@Adnan, u r right, but systems generally treat it automatically as lower caps regardless of what the user types. Anyway, I just visited the profile page & has changed the alias as I Like

change is good, and this time it is !

  11. Tariq Khanani (tariqkhanani) on March 4th, 2008 @ 2:50 pm

finally, freedom from anonymous comments and nick hijacking.
but blog has slowed down a bit, it takes more time to load than before

I think it looks good , but they layout is a bit wider for 1024*768 resolution. Left and Right margins should be less so the page could fit on lower resolutions. :)

  13. calyps on March 4th, 2008 @ 5:24 pm

it doesnt work very well on 1024 * 768 resolution.

  14. salmakhan on March 4th, 2008 @ 7:28 pm

  16. Adnan Siddiqi (adnansiddiqi) on March 5th, 2008 @ 1:16 am

wasiq mian, you would be glad to see that "missing authors" are coming back to home(unlike missing Pakistanis) and making posts. Hope you will have chai paratha in breakfast after a long time in Jamshed town.

ghar wapas jab aao gay tum

  18. mansoor (kar_mansoor) on March 5th, 2008 @ 10:39 am

i didn’t like it in the beginning but i guess it’ll grow on u…

the layout still leaves a lot to be desired, especially the font selection, which i think is too small and a strain on the eyes.

    my two cents

i also like the ‘notify of followup comments’ feature :)

  19. glaxzy on March 5th, 2008 @ 10:46 am

    I am missing old KMB

  20. Adnan Siddiqi (adnansiddiqi) on March 5th, 2008 @ 3:11 pm

kar_mansoor, it’s already available for registered users.

  21. Syed Johny (johny) on March 5th, 2008 @ 11:03 pm

    Cool !
    nice interface !

but its a complete overhaul !
a complete turnover ! the only thing that reminds me of KMB is the google sponsored banner that says" Make your Donations today" the rest has all been changed !

  22. maverick on March 6th, 2008 @ 9:39 pm

not so user friendly and has few bugs…could have been alot better

  23. mqpasta on March 6th, 2008 @ 10:10 pm

isn’t heavier than older one? Please increase font size a bit!

  24. Tariq Khanani (tariqkhanani) on March 7th, 2008 @ 10:49 am

this new KMB is so much dependent on end users screen resolution. an intelligent code should have handled this nicely.

  25. itstabish on March 8th, 2008 @ 1:45 pm

you know what’d be great? if the layout was centered.

  26. بستنی (wasiq) on March 10th, 2008 @ 7:31 am

anybody having difficulty submitting the comments without the preview option….that was available in the older version…?

  27. surfer on March 10th, 2008 @ 9:20 am

I was just wondering if there is any

"law in Pakistan to protect privacy of its citizens"

  28. surfer on March 10th, 2008 @ 9:28 am

i mean what if some high tech company with billions of $$$ gets into our homes by controlling our

" mobile phones, wireless phones, internet(blocking some websites and showing websites of their likings), hidden cams "

    wat would you do…

some mind control freak scientists who wanna make you their slaves…by using their $$$ and dirty tricks….

    wat would you do…

  29. surfer on March 10th, 2008 @ 12:39 pm

and it gets even betta …. advertising… using certain picture that presents specific point of view to divert person’s attention to certain point…. and then saying see didnt we predicted this…

but then coming up with imaginative explanations when their predictions are wrong….

    nothing but a monkey business….

  30. بستنی (wasiq) on March 12th, 2008 @ 7:51 am

the advanced search is exactly what i was looking forward to….it greatly enhances the search engine optimization….how else could i have found my cell phone # of the yet to be found mobile from one of the previously posted blogs during my authorized summer vacations.

  31. بستنی (wasiq) on March 16th, 2008 @ 9:23 am

all comments have a city wide # such as this will have 5436- but they cannot be advanced searched by the #…..?
