img00311.jpgI apologize for the picture quality, but caught this donkey cart with a flat tire / breakdown on top of the Baluch Colony bridge. Sad but I think lugging these steel bars on donkey carts across the city can be considered as cruelty to animals. Notice the other set of bars lying on the sidewalk which too must have been on this cart prior the to the ill-fated malfunctioning tire

What I’d like to know if the going rate for using donkey cart is really that cheap, versus using any other motorized vehicle to lug these steel bars? Is the cost factor really that different that we have to subject these animals to such a torture. Granted a donkey can be used for lugging stuff but there must be a tolerance level for this animal as well. I can only imagine the struggle it took to have reached the top of this bridge.

@teeth, you know there is no traffic police law for Donkey Carts and other vehicles like this ;), so no overloading issue and no Chalan ;)

Hardly anyone cares for human life here, let alone life of animals!

It is atleast 3 times cheaper than hiring a truck to do the work. The donkey works great if a.) you are running low on rupees, or b.) you are just not in a rush.

I know my father needed to transport suger cane (he just got into farming) and found out it was signifcantly cheaper to go via ox cart instead of truck or tractor.

I wish ARBAB could be replaced with this donkey somehow.

Coming back to the topic, yes there is definitely a reason why they are using poor DONKEY for the said purpose.

Another side to this story is, it may well be that this is a separate incident meaning these guys are not usually carrying steel so why not use DONKEY once a while considering they failed to get A BIG TRUCK just for the sake of few steel bars.

I think let us look at the not so obvious. More then the animal i am wonder what curelty it must be to let a human being run this cart to make few bucks.

At one end of the spectrum there are Lexus and Audis and what not which consumes a dollar per wheel rotation.

Where is this poor guy is just trying to make ends meet.

I say the least we can do for him is to let me toil and suffer.

It is good to see Tooth Decay is going on the right path from Playboy Khan, and CJP loving to donkey loving. He should have done that earlier and he would have been fine.

And on the serious note Animal Cruelty should be a punishable crime in the whole country not just in Karachi or Sind.

ANIMAL carts are still cheaper to transfers loads, and are exempted from Traffic Laws, –

from PAF Chapter to Bahadurabad 25 cement bags costs Rs. 200.00 on Animal cart, time taken 35 minutes, where as suzuki charge 600.00, for 10 min, so if you have time :) it is worth saving Rs. 400 which can buy you 10 liters of milk for your family., or 4.5 liters of petrol for your car, or 150 km worth of CNG.
