revolution unfolding?
everyone knows about the recent incident where a couple of dacoits were caught and set on fire. we have been hearing other similar reports as well.
today, a colleague tells me that a similar incident (almost) happened in garden area, where 2 robbers were caught by residents early morning, while trying to snatch mobile phones. the residents of the area threw petrol on them and were shouting to set them on fire. however, police was called and they were handed over…..
not debating on the fairness, such incidents have gained frequency and i’m sure the culprits have something to fear now, as the common man is now standing up for the lack or law and order in the city.
is this a revolution in the making? are we finally ‘man enough’ to stand up and say NO to those who think the awam has no fear and power? or is it just frustration of lack of law and order in the country?
i wuld say…
the dacoits deserve this
it shuld b a lesson for every mobile snatcher……..
they shuld b burned to death………..
Hail to our Awam….
A very valid argument and I think we are sitting right on top of a citizens revolution until and unless the people of pakistan can’t be assured of some semblence of justice until then its brutal raw justice on the streets
The problem now is that people are taking the initiative in the "dekha dekhi" style they know its been done before so they can do it again – I fear its gonna get progressively worse and we may quite accidentally land into some form of bloddy revolution
For things to cool down the judiciary must show that Justice is served or else people of karachi are sick of thugs running our lives
Well, I believe this is a move in both the right direction and the wrong one as well. Lack of trust on both our judiciary and law enforing agencies has led the people of Karachi to take the law into their own hands. I believe more of this should happen, more and more looters should be burnt alive. Obviously these people are not scared of police or even our corrupt judiciary but the fear of getting burned alive from the very people they want to snatch stuff from is the kind of fear that is sure to keep them at the bay.
On the other hand, I fear that this whole burn-the-damn-dakoo thing will also be misused. I read somewhere that there was an accident on the road and the person guilty started to shout choor choor and people beat the crap out of the innocent guys but luckily somehow, they survived but they had a very close call.
Our judiciary had more than 60 year to impose its power but failed to do so. Even the ex-chief justice who is now more like a political figure, with his political lawyers (being fed millions thanks to Nawaz Sharif) could have done something had they not politicized their movement and had they stood their grounds for other more important issues that the common man faces today.
Yes, we ARE heading towards a bloody revolution.
That is the message they gave in "Rang De Basanti". And as usual we are inspired by them ;) If culprits are not brought to justice by Police and judge, the best can only be done on individual bases that is being done right now. Now the problem is that the dacoits will fire more as they would have a fear of being caught and burnt alive. Lets see whats next.
Amazingly, no anti MQM view on this topic so far ;)
@ alias
hail to you if you can do it yourself or even watch a anyone being burned to death!
no argument about the merit and competence of courts and law enforcement agencies, citizens were always on their own mostly. but beating the hell out of someone and killing someone is different and burning people alive is different, this is very dangerous and insensitive, this trend should not be encouraged.
I’m amazed how many people are in support of such an insane and brutal act by the public.
I believe the ones that are actually been captured by the public and beaten are most likely to be non-professionals / beginners. I personally have observes such cases when individuals have tried to commence such crimes "just for fun". Group of guys having fun on the streets at night or a couple of youngsters recently exploring their teenage lives with bad company are one of those examples. Other might include the ones fed-up from monetary problems in their lives.
I will ask you, would YOU be daring to even speak in front of a person carrying a gun on your face? The ‘true’ culprits are something that can’t be classified in the scope of ‘extremism’, they are far beyond that, they are psychos and mentally ill. Haven’t you heard that they don’t even entertain a second thought before pulling the trigger in a messed up situation where they fear to be caught.
On the other hand who says burning alive is a way of proving justice? Haven’t anyone heard that the punishment for stealing is to cut-off hands of the thief.
The one who commits a crime (snatching and related) AND the ones who take the law in their own ‘wrong’ hands BOTH are culprits and the actions of either one of them is totally unacceptable and should be condemned rather than appreciating.
This is not a revolution (neither bloody nor anything else), this is just another face of the prevailing illiteracy among us.
I am just happy that people are facing these decoits with resistance. The first burning event gave people a moral boost, other wise in 90% cases people would just stand and watch arm robbery taking place and would thank God that it was not them being robbed.
This is a good omen only upto the extent that people are resisting the decoits. No human can laud the act of burning any one even if they know that they are the decoits. Some more acts like this and then the dirty people will come and will have their own vendettas in the name of decoits. People should respect the law and must not be taking it into their hands. Even Islam dont allow this which we have only kept for our own personal gains. If we drag down this culture further, then Pakistan will be rwanda and brundi. We want to be cultured and good follower of the law.
ONE SHOULD NOT PUNISH (ANYBODY) WITH ALLAH’S PUNISHMENT
(narrated: Ikrima (R.A):- Ali (R.A) burnt some people and this news reached Ibn Abbas (R.A) and he said "had i been in this place I would have not burned them, as the Prophet (P.B.U.H) said "Don’t punish (anybody) with Allah’s punishment. No doubt, I would have killed them for the Prophet (P.B.U.H) said, "If somebody (a Muslim) discards his religion, kill him". [4:260-O.B]

Peoples Justice = Swift Justice
There’s a serious problem in the way our institutions works and one institution which is one of the vital institution which boosts peoples confidence is judiciary and police.
Unfortunately both institutions are ‘rusted’ and ‘rotten’ to the core and needs not a ‘face-lift’ but should be constituted from scuff.
Police which is the most visible institution or ‘presence of state’ has failed to litmus test miserably ; loosing the trust of the nation and respect because of a) lack of representation of locals b) huge corruption & bribery c) attitude towards citizens d) lack of professionalism
While, Judiciary has failed miserably because of a) political appointments b) lack of resources c) lack of jurists/judges d) lack of professional prosecution team e) delay in judgments
I still maintain that the reaction of people towards bandits was a spontaneous reaction – for sheer entertainment and nothing more. I am sure the bigger bandits of this nation who had been sucking our blood are the ones to be made example of but who cares, dares?
Unfortunate in a battle of Golaith and David – Golaith wins every time in Pakistan.

I still maintain that the burning incident was a spontaneous reaction of people for sheer entertainment and this will not turn into a revolution. Although I think the real culprit who deserves to be burned publicly are the ruling elite of this nation – bigger robbers, murderers and criminals.
Unfortunately in a battle between David & Golaith – it’s Golaith who wins in Pakistan because David does not have the will nor the purity in his soul to succeed.

incidents like these are now surfacing , once dacoit caught by people they set him on fire . it truely shows the resentment among the people and failure of law enforcement agencies . many people think by this way other robbers will not even take courage for robbery . for such crimes Islam designed punishment like beating with whip or amputation of hand in serious incidents, these law send a serious message to all people not to even think of stealing. if there is no law and order in a state the state would go in crises like we are in , poor cant have access to man made lords in police stations and rich use them like puppets.
finally signs of life in zameer of awam……….
wakeup call for lawbreakers
i will believe it when people go and burn a few VIP cars passing by instead of petty dacoits.
faisalK, this happened in past. angry Pakistanis in late 60s threw stones on car of dictator Yahya in Pindi when he appeared in public. Yahya was in shock after seeing all this because like Musharraf, he also thought awam loved him and with him but reality was something else. So it would nto be surprising if same awam goes to that extent with VIPs,politicians and dictator in near future.
yes we burn those who take away our cash and valuable
but we support those who are taking away the country, jitna bara daku utni bari maafi
faylasuf, very well said – bravo – mazaa agaya!!!
when our so called enlightened leaders are busy in havin fun then one can’t expect them to serve AWam?

Just heard news that few dacoits were rescued from A Block North NAzimabad when awam tried to burn them. The dangerous part is that ppl now are declaring anyone as dacoits and others start beating them.
pakro!!!!! dakooo!!!! *points to adnan* ….. kidding
we do not need JUSTICE in the ABSENCE of LAW.
A Law which can take to Task the Supreme Human in control of Country – be it COAS, CNC, COAFS, PM, PRESIDENT, CHAIRMAN SENATE, ETC ETC etc etc etc … down to common people like YOU & ME.
how many of YOU Think that after the whole drama of Ju dicial circus since March 2007, ANY of the JUDGE would be in a position to make an UNBIASED decision on basis of MERIT. till 2011.
WE NEED LAW & LAW ENFORCMENT., which does not exist.
I really hope it’s not a revolution, otherwise it’s gonna be a really sadistic one. Okay, I get it when people beat up dacoits – it’s to send off a message, which is obvious considering the overall situation of the city (you know what I mean). Maybe the less educated ones will resort to killing (which is >>borderline< wrong), but burning them alive is just sadistic… apparently these people do it for mere entertainment more than anything – since the dacoits were pretty much dead before they were set on fire (why not just kill them painlessly if you have to?). If you look closely in the clips of the first incident aired on Geo, the people are dancing around the burning corpses and an old guy actually played a mock corpse beside the burning bodies.
